its an absolute disgrace that a coach has to discipline pathetic players and cost his team points. Some players should be ashamed of themselves.

I will stand by any coach who has a legitimate reason for disciplining a player.
But they should never be ashamed for working hard and improving themselves nor disciplined for following their parents instructions.

Zzzzzz Strikers game called off due to rain, now this weekends Roar game called off as they're off travelling somewhere.

So fucking stupid.

What's the point of the Roar team being in the comp if they can't play finals and they decide to just fuck off mid season for a trip?

Did we miss one or did Olympic miss their 3rd?

Futbol app has it as the latter.

Still, gifting two pens in 3 minutes is a concern.

olympic Score Three, Go Third

OLYvNFU (Patrick Kearneyy/OLY)
Words: Matt Dorman
Image: Patrick Kearney/Olympic FC

Danny Byrne scored twice from the spot to help Olympic FC to an action-packed 3-0 win over Northern Fury at Goodwin Park on Sunday.

Byrne could have had a hattrick of penalties while the visitors missed one of their own as Olympic rose to third spot.

Rhys Meredith came close to opening the scoring inside five minutes when he stole on to a back-pass ahead of Fury ‘keeper Joseph Simons, but his toepoke was cleared by a retreating George Dalton.

An arm-wrestle ensued for much of the first half as Matt Acton was required to keep out three shots on target, while Rhys Meredith and Tim Smits might have done better late in the half.

However, the match swung heavily in Olympic’s favour shortly after the restart courtesy of two penalties in quick succession.

Kazuya Ito was first knocked to the floor to allow Danny Byrne to step up and sidefoot the hosts into a 1-0 lead, before Byrne himself was fouled just three minutes later.

The Olympic captain again made no mistake, stroking his spot kick in off the base of the post.

Ari Isman could have pulled Fury back into the match with just over 20 minutes remaining but headed Joe Thornton’s dangerous corner over the crossbar, while Michael Eisenhut was unable to hit the target after robbing Acton in possession.

An intentional handball by Dalton then sent Byrne to the spot for a third time, but Simons this time pushed away the effort at full stretch.

The drama continued in the final 15 minutes as Darren Gray was shown a straight red for foul and abusive language, but the home side sealed three points in the final minute of normal time as Michael Lee followed up on Dylan Wenzel-Halls’ shot against the post to make it 3-0.

There was still time for Fury to win a penalty of their own but Acton outfoxed Joe Thornton to preserve his first clean sheet of the season.

Speaking after the match, goalkeeper Acton was pleased to move on from consecutive league and cup defeats.

“I think it’s pretty rare for this club to lose two on the trot so the boys were pretty determined going into the game not to let it slip again,” the shot-stopper said.

Fury coach Ian Ferguson felt the lack of opportunities for his in-form wide players proved costly.

“Credit to Olympic, they snuffed us out today and made it very difficult,” he said.

So you are 2-0 down with 35 min to play.

Every play up the wings has been foiled by a zonal disciplined defense and midfield ,you cant go over or behind your opponents defensive line. You have spent most of the game in your own half defending and you need to make a sub.
You look across your bench and consider each player.

What type of player would you be looking for?

A youthful Fury lost 2-3 to the jets

Bad luck Fury but a wonderful fight back. Just a tip
keep the ball on the ground and take on the defense from the start of the game.

sorry but
I cant say anything with negative connotations.
But one thing i will say is that some players are impact players who need a short amount of time to alter a game and that's great, but there is another type of player one that maintains possession ,runs at defenders and makes them nervous and makes them make mistakes. This takes time and confidence over a large period of a game, he needs time for them to fear him and give him space or crowd him and leave others free. The fury had both types available to them in this game but against a well drilled disciplined defense who would you put on. Would you be overly concerned if he lost the ball (well up the park) a few times whilst trying to impact an attack especially if he was a proven goal scorer over many years?

Not sure who you were pointing at specifically or why you can't have negative connotations either.

I'm referring directly to Fergie and his use of what should be an excellent group of players.

Hard to say because everytime I watch the Fury they are basically a different squad bar a few players.

That's the point I'm making.

They are playing Redland United at home
So you would be playing for a win. They have a week defense and a good attack with goals for and against almost equal.
They seem a rather tall team (mostly) with a small midfielder and others who will take chances from far out. The defence seem scattered and undisciplined slow on either side. they look to leave a lot of open space across the park but have talent up front and in the mid.

I think this is a fair team to blood young players with starting positions surrounded with mature players (they don't appear to be an overly physical side).
Personally i would play a 433 with the 2 mature wide players in the mid and 3 young players up front and Jacob a holding mid in a diamond formation. I would have two of the other young players (motti and Stanley)on the bench and the new #9 from saints as an impact player.

Most importantly my instructions would be every thing on the ground nothing in the air. I would ask the forwards to dribble at the defense 1-2s and try to pass through their lines not to be selfish but take their shots low and into the cheek as the keeper is not as comfortable along the ground as he is in the air. Press hard from the front to try to recover the ball.
Last game it was 1-3 away from home for a Fury win.

Best thing about that game between the Fury and Palm Beach in Ingham was that a crowd of around 1000 turned up. That makes Townsville's support look like shit.

I doubt they'd sustain such a figure over the course of a season.
