Edited by schultzy: 26/9/2013 09:27:06 PM Still have 24 hours for some of the tighter predictions of Schultzy's to be confirmed. Hopefully we hear from Glory on that expected member announcement, before the day is out. Surely 5k to be announced there, given how long ago the last figure was announced. It's been close to 2 weeks since Roar's figure was announced and since then the 3 game and other combination member packs around the league have kicked in, seeing a late surge. That's also why I have the Mariners and Heart as meeting Shultzy's predictions, given they are only a 100 or so off. Was tempted to put Sydney and Victory as met, but SFC haven't broken 10k, YET, and Victory haven't seemed to have grown as fast as one would think last couple weeks, less they are slow to update the counter and/or have a backlog too? I think by tomorrow evening the actual total should be only 1k short of Shultzy's prediction, with SFC surpassing 10k, Heart on the cusp of 6k, if not meeting that and if not today, then surely announcements/updates from Glory and Mariners on new milestones. We won't hear anything from Roar till they hit 7k. So we may not see an update in that regard for 2-3 more weeks. If anybody else had some predictions, especially earlier than when Schultzy posted his, it will be interesting to compare how they panned out, with R1 looming now? Hope Schultzy don't mind my 'stalkerish' following him up on his predictions, post? 8-[ :p Edited by gloryperth: 11/10/2013 01:24:30 AM

Iridium, still nothing from Glory's CEO? Anticipation builds... still has a good hour or so left, 'working/office hours'-wise, to 'announce' something? tbitm wrote:tbitm wrote: As a league, we've been tracking about 415 a day (for the last fortnight) so if we continue hopefully we can hit 85,000 by round 1.

SFC would get more members tomorrow as people go to the game (hopefully). But 85K pre kick off is amazing.

You commented on the their membership numbers, cities with bigger populations are gonna(or should) have more members because there are more people. Wellington are doing ok, not great or good but ok, we don't all have other local teams to prop up our numbers. As for money, how much is the sky tv deal worth to the FFA? Thought you were referring to the rest of my comment. But again, don't use the fact they don't have a rival to prop up their numbers (and prop up other teams numbers) as an argument for. It is most certainly an argument against if anything. Can't imagine it be much. IIRC they only show 2 games a week there and I think I heard they rate somewhere in the 30k range. Can't be much. One thing the nix have going for them is they are majorly supported by Football NZ. Hope they make the World Cup, will be good for the nix.

He's not sayiing it should or will happen, but if their trend continues you can't argue that a serious review needs to be done on their position? ie. Could Christchurch, Auckland do better? Why not Canberra or Hobart - why do we feel the need to include NZ in the A-league??? Do they bring money, development of our players, investment in the game... They are a novelty team. A team we include because we feel it's the right thing to do based on our OFC history and because of sporting rivalries in other sports. - I know this should be asked in a different thread but I hate the sense that we have to prop up NZ football. They have done nothing for us (and they don't need to)! Go do your own thing... if your best players want to come across an play in th ea-league for sure if they are good enough we'll have them but we owe you nothing and your existence diminishes our capacity to grow the game in Australia - rant over. A big NO to Tasmania, no money, divided state!!!!

Well for sure, and I'm with you on that one. But that's a separate debate to the one I was having haha. IMO, if things don't turn around for them this year we really do have to make moves. Both places you mention are crying out for representation, and its not as if Sky Sports is giving the competition proper recognition either.

All I'm saying is the league is going forward, and it seems like Wellington is getting left behind unless something is done about it very soon. I don't want this to be the case, it just is.
Right now Wellington make the league a 10 team league and don't add ratings to which we pay for their entire salary. Eventually, people will ask if its worth it even more sending them 2.5mil each year to be a drag on the league when there are better options here at home that will add to the TV contract.
Again, I don't want this to happen. Just being realistic.

Yeah, you're right, those figures reflect the warm embrace of Ernie Merrick and the exponential growth the Nix are experiencing.

What will happen? he said their membership total is pathetic, that is what i commented on. Quote:but if their trend continues you can't argue that a serious review needs to be done on their position? ie. Could Christchurch, Auckland do better? Their crowds have been pretty much the same throughout their entire life, save one season where they got 11k, every season they have outdone what both Auckland teams achieved in the NSL and A-league. Christchurch is still suffering from the effects of the earthquake i believe. Edited by iridium1010: 10/10/2013 04:25:39 PM

I don't know how accurate that MVC member tally is, but when the herald sun preview came out heart were on roughly 5,780 members. Are actual at the moment though, is 5,843. Will probably break 5.9 early tomorrow.

Amazing what happens when the owners stop sitting on their hands and get stuck in to some decent players and a proper membership drive. Now watch them give 10k average a good spanking as soon as they get on a winning run and the Yarraside lads cool it a bit on the negative press.

When the Jerks were first chasing 10k members, I know a fair few people were holding off because they figured they'd get a prize/recognition for being the 10,000th member to sign up. I wouldn't be surprised to hear SFC hitting 10k by tonight TBH
