Tips are easy.....
need to feed with a quality laying pellet, provide shell grit to help with shell strength, perches need to be natural branches of around 25 to 32mm diameter, broomsticks and small diameter sticks give feet problems, a box in the laying shed of diatomaceous earth is good for the hens to dust bath in prevents lice and mite, they also peck a bit and it help prevent worms, the mite and lice will live in the dust and timber of the shed, so what i do is oil the timber to prevent them getting established, same for the perches, i use oil and kero and paint the perches, you should establish a deep litter pen of straw or spoilt lucerne at least 100mm or more and as this becomes soiled by the hens you can remove and compost it for your veggie garden as mulch fertiliser....... make sure you hang the feeder and water unit from chain off the ceiling to prevent rodents from eating all your feed and contaminating feed and water......also it is important to note, that chickens do not lay everyday all year round.....
