How to coach like Rafa Benitez 101: Sub off your best performing player when you're unable to find that vital goal.

He's done it again... taken off our 2nd best player today... Babel has looked likely in the 2nd half with some really good runs... should have been N'gog off Kuyt on, Maxi off Yossi on

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham. Epic fail.
Can already predict Rafa's post-match comments
"We need to win our next 4 games definately to get 4th place"
After today I can't see them in anyway getting 4th place today was their last chance and they needed to win at all costs especially with Man City looking like winning.
Ohwell Europa League isn't to bad

Played an attacking line up, told the guys to get forward, we did so, played well, Maxi spurned two chances, Greeky missed a big one and Schwarzer had a great game. Nothing else Rafa could do about that. We werent succeeding with Rafa on the pitch, and everyone knows how much I love him, but a change had to be made and he came off. And he was certainly not our best player.

who was for yours?... i thought Gerrard lacked abit, not as involved as he usually is, Johnson got completly shut out by Duff, Mascher was ehhh, N'gog is N'gog It wasn't a terrible tactics game but just the belief in the club has just been sucked dry, there's no confidence or belief that we could beat fulham... i think one of the commentators hit the nail on the head when he said Liverpool play there best when there backs are against the wall like the Man United home fixture this season... but now when there backs where against the wall, the fight is just gone out of them

Masch up there too. I disagree with your point that the fight is gone. The lads came out and really tried today, we actually played some decent football, and carved out some good chances. It was just one of those games, and its expected to happen in a season. Take away all the other crap from this season, and every team has results like this. Hell, Man U had one about 90 mins earlier!! It's just with the other crap we've played this season, its being exaggerated. It wasn't today's performance, it was the crap we played during the season. This wasn't a result like the loss to Wigan, or to Pompey, or the draw with Stoke. This was entirely different. This wasn't negative, tired, predictable, boring excuse for football. This was like a game from last season, where we just couldn't put the ball in the net. And of course, being without Torres didnt help. Like Man U struggled today without Rooney. Look at this game on merit. Not at the rest of the season at the same time. Edited by imnofreak: 12/4/2010 02:12:48 AM

Keep Rafa and every season will be like this one. No ambition, no passion, just a fat slug-like performance, which fits with Rafa's persona quite well. He has to be joking asking for 60m to spend in the summer. Not only will there never be that much to spend, but having you spend it would be like asking a retarded child in charge of nuclear weapons. It's such a grossly irresponsible and horrifying situation that nobody could even fathom if someone actually let it happen.

Are you kidding? Attacking football? Played decently? Played with fight? I don't know what game you were watching, honestly. This team has had any confidence sucked out by Rafa's inexplicably hanging on to his belief that his tactics and approach are right, despite a season's worth of evidence to the contrary. He's lost the players.

Quote:No ambition, no passion, just a fat slug-like performance, which fits with Rafa's persona quite wel; Read what I said above mate. This game did not lack ambition or passion. Was just one of those games. Don't get me wrong - Rafa is certainly not faultless, and I've been left scratching my head at a multitude of his decisions - but it was not his fault we didn't win today, so stop acting like it was.

He's lost the players. I was watching the same game as you mate. Of course I'm serious. Everybody is praising Aquilanis contribution - because we got forward and put pressure on Fulham. Read any report you like about this game, and they'll all echo the same thing. We pressured, we dominated, but couldnt score. Thats it. There was no lack of confidence, there were no poor tactics. Stop trying to blame Rafa just because it suits what you believe. I wasn't defending Rafa last week because bringing Torres off was stupid, and we paid for it. That result CAN be marked down to him. This one is a completely different kettle of fish.

I'm not sure how subsituting your most dangerous players for donkeys at key moments and persisting with the same tired, predictable tactics that have served us "so well" all season absolves Rafa of responsibility for this loss. It's all down to predictability, and Rafa has done and continues to do nothing to break free of that and provide some sort of flexibility and unpredictability in our play.

You mean Kuyt, the player who played wonderfully midweek and is our second top scorer? Or did you mean Benayoun - the player who score the winner v Fulham last year, and is probably the player with the most flair in our whole club? Predictable tactics?? You honestly predicted he would rest Lucas and Kuyt and start Aqua? Cause I sure as hell didn't. You're the kind of supporter that wants us to not finish 4th so Rafa gets sacked, aren't you?

It's a moot point now, since we're not going to finish fourth because of Rafa's persistent and inexplicable fuck ups...
I think if you gave me the choice a few games ago though, I'd choose 5th and Rafa gone over 4th and Rafa, because at least I know with someone new we'd have a chance at winning the title next season. With Rafa we'd have no chance.

Pompey could throw a massive spanner in the 4th-7th battle. A win here means they'll get into the Europa League next season, costing 7th spot that place.

So Pompey playing CCC and Europa League next season
That means 7th place isn't a Europa spot so one of Tottenham, Liverpool or Aston Villa have to miss out. Gonna be a mad dash for 5thh and 6th place

Pompey will be not be allowed to enter the Europa League even if they win the FA Cup. They have not applied for a Uefa club licence because administration meant they were not in a position to file their accounts.

So bar a miracle/the complete unravelling of Villa/Pool/Spurs we have 4, 5, 6 and 7th spot sorted. Everton must be kicking themselves for their horrible start to the season. Liverpool manage to (whether by luck or not is for another thread) at least secure themseleves a Europe League spot and Man City should hae just about locked up 4th place now.
