I'd be playing Gyan up top alone and Sessegnon in behind, getting them to overlap each other kinda like you see from Aguero/Forlan at Atletico.

I'd agree with you on that - but the problem is, if you're going to play 5 across midfield you have to have width - the only left-sided player we have who gives us width is Richardson, and he doesn't like playing out there (read - fails to perform) so we don't stretch teams to make the space for someone like Sessegnon to move into.

You could probably push Muntari out onto the left as a makeweight. It's not ideal but it's better than the system at the moment.
