The Knights were allowed. Their "existing sponsor" AHD Croatian Club Melbourne, with the red & white checkered shield, was clearly visible on both sleeves of the knights jeresys.

I daresay the FFA will say it is because Magic always have that Macedonian reference on their jersey.

But I agree with you, totally.

I enjoyed the premise of last night but I must admit some of the football was dire.

I know this isn't top teir football but there were times where the game looked more like what would happen if AFL players had a hit out instead of established football teams.

I think it raises the question about the need to engrain football at the grassroots so when players get to the top of the state (or there abouts) they can at least play the fundamentals of a passing game and keeping shape. There was too much hit the ball long to absolutely nothing last night.

There's few ALeague game last season where the rating are under 40k.

Would be interesting to compare ratings against ALeague Season 1, I have vague recollection that not all matches were shown.

Under 40k is no suprise.
I think 30k would be a great figure, 20k okay, 10k they should scrap the comp.

Going off what we saw last night the ratings will grow too, especially once the HAL clubs come in. I think HAL season 9 having matches that rated less than 40k is more concerning. My guess is that they would have been Wellington home games. Less of a vested interest down under.

Now I wish I went, just to light a durry at half time WITH Simon Hill. I have TAFE Tuesday nights, so I couldn't attend the Magic game which I wish I did, and I can't attend the Jets game next week. Bloody Tuesdays ](*,) (But thank you Foxtel Go for me being able to stream the game in class on my laptop on TAFE's wifi. But, reading through the thread, it makes me so happy to see people attending their local games. Some of my friends watched the game as well who aren't big football fans, but mainly because one of my friends had drinks at his house and he wanted to watch the game, so they all watched it. The friends who weren't big football enthusiasts reckon the FFA Cup is a really cool idea that semi-professional clubs were able to verse professional clubs in a national wide tournament. Apparently they were getting into it and backing Magic, fired up when the penalty was called.

In their defence though, that is what is known as kerning, the process where typesetters adjust the size of fonts to make the width of the words equal in a logo. If they didn't write Croatia in a larger font the letters would be twice as wide as they are high. That is why the letters in the bottom line are smaller than the letters in Melbourne.

The Knights fans were good value, although about half were Brisbane Croatia boys, but well done to those who made the journey. I expected Olympic to get smashed, even though they are the best NPL side in Qld. The gap between the various state leagues is not as great as I thought.

Crowd was 2200 at the Brisbane Olympic v Melbourne Knights game, but felt like more. I took some non-football mates along and they loved it, a real carnival atmosphere. I was tempted to stay at home just to see how Fox covered it, but the temptation to go along was too great. Watched Fox on the iPad but couldn't hear a thing, loved the updates from other games at it went along. Useful to catch the replays of the goals and the guys near me were strikers fans and kept asking for updates.

Ito was fantastic for Olympic and the number 6 for Knights was a beast.

Dont forget that MK have been struggling this season mostly due to injuries. I believe that they're out of the race for finals football. Still a decent effort with a fairly young squad

Anyone see the no-penalty incident? What was it? Tackle/handball?

Handball, pretty obvious one too. Defender raised his arm to shield his face, definite penalty. It happened right in front of the Croatian fans who didn't really make a big deal of it, but I think they were already at their full capacity for noise for most of the match.

The red card was also a no brainer, guy was on a yellow for persistent fouling and should probably have been replaced. Ito held off committing to a 50/50 ball long enough to tempt him into diving in with a two footer. A 16 year old kid being outsmarted by a more experienced player.

Anyway, everyone was crowing about how Knights were going to use the 'Melbourne Croatia Soccer Club Inc' logo purely to stick it up the FFA. They even used a bigger font for 'Croatia'. I'm all for celebration of your background, I think the FFA's move to cut all ethnic imagery is backwards, but you'd be daft to think that they wouldn't see that logo as a deliberate provocation and try to do something about it.

Given Magic Park has demonstrated the perfect all round cup experience and given the Jets v Glory game is played there next Tuesday, I dare say that'd be the most likely game to be broadcast on Fox, should they decide to do it. As much as i'd like to see two lesser clubs battling it out as a feature game, to at least have something (Jets v Glory) with crosses to other games when goals are scored would be great.

Given the great job that was done last night, it should be mandatory that every Tuesday has one televised game with crosses. It saddens me that we may not see another live game on Fox until the round of 16.

Remember, South Hobart are streaming the entire game on their website (free?), so even if Fox decide not to do another game, there is something to watch for those that cant make it to a game next Tuesday.

Not really double standards, it actually backs up what the FFA said about the "Melbourne Croatia" and no new sponsors for the cup. It shows that the "Melbourne Croatia" decision had nothing to do with it being an "ethnic" sponsor just a new one.

Ok. Explain then why Brisbane Strikers were allowed to have a new sponsor for the tournament? But yeah, nothing to do with it being an 'ethnic' sponsor.

Gorilla Sports are not a new sponsor of the Strikers, they sponsor them all the time, they just changed their kit for the FFA Cup. "Melbourne Croatia Soccer Club Inc." is a new sponsor, they would have gotten away with having "AHD Croatian Club Melbourne" on the front of the shirts as they are a current sponsor and were still allowed as sleeve sponsors last night.

Although as stated by others the No New Sponsors Rule isn't one I agree with.

It's true that Gorilla Sports have been the kit supplier for the Strikers for ages, but they are a new front of shirt sponsor for the FFA Cup

Here's the Strikers kit prior to the FFA Cup

Not really double standards, it actually backs up what the FFA said about the "Melbourne Croatia" and no new sponsors for the cup. It shows that the "Melbourne Croatia" decision had nothing to do with it being an "ethnic" sponsor just a new one.

Ok. Explain then why Brisbane Strikers were allowed to have a new sponsor for the tournament? But yeah, nothing to do with it being an 'ethnic' sponsor.

exactly.

double standards if i ever saw one.

all this shows that FFA are nothing more than a bunch of vindictive cunts

Not a Phase, Not a Trend, SYDNEY UNITED till the END!
