I still cant figure out the FFAs logic for this competition.

I can understand that they want a non aleague team to make the semi final. Thats simple. Just draw 8 teams to play each other in the r32. That leaves 14 clubs plus 10 aleague clubs. So even if every aleague club got a non aleague club that means that at least 6 non aleague would make the r16, then you draw 4 and so on until you reach the semi.
What actually happens with the current system is non aleague teams have less of a chance to beat aleague teams, as they must play semi finalist from the previous seasons. The aleague teams in bad form knock each other out. I dont think the current model costs anymore or less.

Because that would be a shitty and pointless cup. What they are using this competition for is for more games and create a link between state and national. The competition should be expanded. Not diminished.

Round of 64 open draw and i will be satisfied

I guess there are 2 ways you can expand it. Increase to 44 then have 10 aleague at r32 and increase prize money or make it 64 and increase costs but have more teams (both only possible with increased sponsorship).

Nah epifano has gone on trial to Dundee United, been carrying the team on his back since Brennan left...lujic is horribly out form, missed 2 penalties in 2 games and his finishing has been off, we look so shaky now despite getting the lucky results.

As for the mock draw above, Heidelberg v victory could go close to 10k.

Easily surpass it. Heidelberg, from reports have been pulling in decent numbers. Can anyone confirm?

What would you describe as decent numbers? They have a sizeable dormant fan base, they would be coming out of the woodwork for sure if victory paid them a visit.

A recent post on the South Hobart facebook page suggest that if South Hobart pull a home game (against a A-League club I presume) they're going to host the match at Bellrieve Oval.

I'd guess anywhere between 6-9k, midweek doesn't help, ultimately it depends on the level of hype generated, and that's another game that I'm sure casual victory and to a lesser extent city fans would wanna check out as well so it could be anything.

Plz. Some great match ups there.

I especially like the idea of Victory taking on Heidelberg with Griffin McMaster, Andreas Govas, and former Victory players Daniel Vasilevski and Steven Pace, if only to have a game in Victoria for once. On the other hand I'd like to see them get an A-League team they have a chance of beating, too.

i'm still getting used to understanding soccer, but from what my understanding is this cup competition seems like a good idea. my only fear is that by bringing out all the old trouble makers you're going to see the trouble of not so long ago, when supporters would forget that it is just a game, and think their fighting for Yugoslavia or the Soviet union again. issues have been spoken about on here recently about melbourne knights and facist fans of theirs. i would hate to see a soccer game turn into a nurenburg rally with supporters yelling out heil hitlers and so on. thats what makes afl such a great sport the inclusiveness. it doesnt matter what country you come from, when you throw on a guernsey, your mates with everybody.

i live near the melbourne knights stadium, and i was thinking about maybe going to a few of their games this season. the ffa cup would have been good but i dont think they made it.

That game was one of best best FFA Cup matches last year that crowd was phenomenal.

That FFA Cup and the Asian cup attendances as well as the w-league attendances show that Canberra could easily support an A-league Team.

South Hobart FC wrote:
Blundstone Arena confirmed as Westfield FFA Cup Home Venue

We can confirm that Blundstone Arena is South Hobart Football Club's venue of choice should we draw an FFA Cup home game.

Whilst we appreciate Blundstone is an oval, the opportunity was just too good to give up. Yes South Hobart FC fully supports Tasmania acquiring it's own rectangular stadium, but currently we do not have one with appropriate lighting.

The facilities are world class, the staff at Blundstone are very supportive, the comfort of both spectators and players is second to none.

The facts are this:
If we draw an A-League team then there are only two venues suitable in Tasmania to play the game. One is Aurora Stadium and the other is Blundstone. Hyundai A-League teams must play at a broadcast quality venue. The minimum Lux of the lights required is 500. Blundstone has 2,400 Lux. North Hobart Oval does not have a high enough Lux and nor does KGV.

Initially, we thought that Blundstone Arena would be out of our reach financially but the package put together for the club was fabulous.

If we draw another NPL club yes we could have played at KGV but at Blundstone every spectator gets a seat out of the weather. There are corporate facilities and we have the ability to host a club function prior to the game. There are big screens. Comfort for all. One change room at Blundstone is the size of all the changerooms at KGV. Quite frankly who would give up the opportunity of playing where world class cricket is played?

Spectators will be surprised how close the Ricky Ponting stand is to the football field. You will have an amazing view, a comfortable seat and everything that quite frankly football fans in Tasmania deserve.

So we urge you to come along and support football. You may not like us, you may even dislike us, but we know you love football. So if the opportunity arises get along and show your support for the game we all love.

Well, that convinces me. Hope they get a home game!
