Officially announced today. Quote:Ballarat to host FFA Cup clash Wednesday, 16 July 2014 10:41 AM http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/melbourneheart/news-display/Ballarat-to-host-FFA-Cup-clash/91198 Melbourne City FC will commence its inaugural Westfield FFA Cup campaign in Ballarat with an intriguing opening round clash against Sydney FC on August 12. In a coup for the Ballarat region, the Round of 32 match will be played at Morshead Park – the newly-redeveloped facility which will host the Bahrain national team for a pre-competition camp before the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The venue also played host to a recent pre-season match between Melbourne City FC and the Ballarat Red Devils on June 25. Melbourne City FC worked closely with the Ballarat City Council to deliver the match at Morshead Park, after the Club drew fellow Hyundai A-League outfit Sydney FC from Pot B in the FFA Cup draw on June 27. Melbourne City FC CEO Scott Munn, made the announcement today alongside the Mayor of the City of Ballarat, Joshua Morris, at the venue. “We’re delighted to return to Ballarat for this match; the Council has been extremely accommodating - and what better way to reaffirm our commitment to the broader Victorian community than to play our inaugural FFA Cup match here,” Munn said. Head Coach John van’t Schip, who is currently in Manchester with the Melbourne City FC squad for a pre-season camp at Manchester City’s Carrington Training Centre, said he was impressed by the venue. “They have a fantastic facility in Ballarat,” van’t Schip said. “At this point in the pre-season it is important for us to play matches in good conditions and the pitch at Ballarat will be perfect for us. “The first FFA Cup match is important and will be a great moment for us to see where we are at in our pre-season after the camp in Manchester.” Mayor Morris said the prospect of Ballarat hosting an inaugural FFA Cup fixture was exciting for the region. “To see two A-League teams fighting it out right here in Ballarat is beyond our wildest expectations,” Mr. Morris said. “I can’t wait to welcome Melbourne City FC to Morshead Park, and I am certain that the town will turn out to support them.” The Victorian Government, which has provided $3.1 million since 2009 to redevelop Morshead Park and its facilities, has also committed $10,000 from the Significant Sporting Events Program to assist in delivering the event. “The Victorian Government is proud to support regional centres like Ballarat in their efforts to kick goals when it comes to the world game,” Minister for Sport and Recreation, Mr Damian Drum, said. “This Melbourne City FC fixture is off the back of recent news that the Bahrain national team will be basing themselves at the new Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility at Morshead Park in the lead up to the 2015 Asian Cup. “These events showcase this fantastic part of Victoria, and the quality sports facilities to even more people around the globe reinforcing our States reputation as a sporting capital.” Ballarat Regional Tourism provide accommodation booking services and are available at visitballarat.com.au Match Details FFA Cup - Round of 32 Tuesday 12 August 2014 Melbourne City FC vs. Sydney FC Morshead Park, Ballarat Kick-Off: 7.30pm Ticket Information: Tickets will be available from the venue.

Not the world's greatest written article. Also it misses South Springvale and has an abundance of spelling errors. http://www.theroar.com.au/2014/07/16/teams-competing-ffa-cup-round-32/Quote:Teams competing in the FFA Cup Round of 32

We know about A-League clubs, however what do we know about the clubs that will challenge the established teams in Australia and New Zealand? If you a football lover or just starting to watch a few matches because of the World Cup, this competition is a must. The FFA Cup will showcase how much depth Australian football has. The round of 32 will start on 29th July. Here is some information about the clubs that have come through the National Premier League (NPL) play-offs. Broadmeadow Magic FC Broadmeadow are based in Newcastle, and compete in the Northern NSW NPL. They are placed 7th on a ladder of 10. Playing out of Edensor Park in Sydney, they are coming 10th out of 12 in NPL NSW. The FFA Cup could uncover the next big then, a kid who has something special. Playing against the A-League clubs will open up opportunities that some might have thought was impossible. And who knows, if a club from the NPL does extremely well, the FFA may begin thinking about including more clubs in the A-League.

Quote:Venue update on Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 fixtures
Perth Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic flies high against the Jets. Perth Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic flies high against the Jets.Wednesday, 16 July 2014 - Staff Writer Comments Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today confirmed the dates and venues for matches to be played in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32, which includes the announcement that Melbourne City’s encounter against Sydney FC will be held in Ballarat. The regional Victorian city will host the highly anticipated all-Hyundai A-League clash at Morshead Park Stadium on Tuesday 12 August 2014 after an agreement between Melbourne City and Ballarat City Council.
Two venues will each host two matches in the Round of 32. Wanderers Oval (Magic Park) in the Newcastle suburb of Broadmeadow has been confirmed for the match between the Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory on Tuesday 5 August 2014, a week after Northern NSW Football side Broadmeadow Magic host Queensland NPL club Brisbane Strikers in the opening night of the competition.
Marden Sports Complex in Adelaide’s north east will also field two matches with South Australian Federation Cup champions Adelaide City’s game against Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday 12 August 2014 to be held at the venue after Adelaide United meet the Wellington Phoenix there a week earlier.
The confirmation of venues for the two matches featuring Western Australian NPL clubs Stirling Lions and Bayswater City against reigning Hyundai A-League champions Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory respectively are still being worked through by FFA, Football West and the participating clubs with regards to exploring venues that fulfil the relevant venue standards.
An announcement on the locations of these two fixtures will be made once they are finalised. Notably, to determine the locations for Westfield FFA Cup matches, each venue must be compliant with the Westfield FFA Cup Event and Match Day Standards, which includes quality of lighting.
Fox Sports, the official broadcast partner of the Westfield FFA Cup, will broadcast Broadmeadow Magic’s match against Brisbane Strikers LIVE at 7:30pm AEST on Tuesday 29 July 2014 and also provide crosses and single camera coverage of highlights of the other three matches being played on night one – South Springvale v South Cardiff, Manly United v Sydney Olympic and Olympic FC v Melbourne Knights.
Details surrounding broadcast, online streaming and highlights of the remaining 12 matches will be announced shortly.
Ticketing details for each match in the Round of 32 are available from each of the home clubs hosting matches or by contacting the relevant Member Federation.

Cbf with the whole streaming shit. Just stick it on fox ffs. They can't because fox would need to set up the extensive amounts of equipment required to broadcast it on their channels.Plus in their view it's quite likely that one of their shitty AFL or NRL talk shows would rate higher than a cup match between two NPL teams on the night so it would probably be a net loss for them. Streaming just needs a well placed camera and a quality internet connection, the number of viewers is irrelevant. Edited by melbourne_terrace: 16/7/2014 06:18:22 PM

Melbourne City's decision to take their first ever official game to Ballarat is stupid. There won't be much away support for us, either. Fuck going to Ballarat.

Shame Adelaide City/Western Sydney couldn't be played at City's home ground, but their facilities badly need an upgrade...

When the State Government is throwing $10,000 around to move a game to Ballarat, the club would be stupid not to take it. What club wouldn't want to play on a pristine pitch rather than the chopped up mess the Storm leave behind at AAMI, while also making a profit on what would be a small midweek crowd anyway. It also helps the club to follow the government's suggestions and be seen as expanding the game elsewhere so when it comes to building the new training facilities it is not met with issues from the government's side.

It's alienating a lot of fans. Can confirm a lot of Sydney supporters were planning on flying down to Melbourne for this, many have booked flights. I myself was planning on heading down. Now it's moved to Ballarat, it's not going to happen. Too difficult logistically in the middle of the week. I can understand playing a few pre-season friendlies out there. I get playing a "regional round" in the middle of the A-League season out there, but I can't understand moving your first ever competitive game, let alone the first ever Cup game out there. Heck, I could understand it if you were playing a NPL team, but an A-League team? TBH, I can't see too many Heart/City fans travelling out there midweek. And to move it for $10k, yeah, it's a nice tidy sum of money for plebs like you & I, but for the City owners, 10 grand is play money. They probably got 10k daily to spend at their local tuckshops for lunch as kids. For me, it's a bizarre and disappointing move.

Yep i'd be livid if we threw away a home game in the cup to a regional area for no good reason, let alone if it was the first competitive one ever. Would be just as pissed if i was had already bought flights as well to go to this.

Well I'm just looking forward getting out to cromer in 2wks watching manly play o lym pic.
