Right. I've edited the OP for the upcoming 2016 edition of the FFA Cup. I've moved all the results to this page for ease of access. As I did with the 2014 scores there's a link in the top of the OP for easy access so you don't need to panic. :) In regards for the upcoming competition, I presume NSW will be handed an extra spot. South Australia received one last year with NorthEastern MetroStars as they were the then-reigning NPL champions. Currently, that title belongs to Blacktown City - who aren't involved in qualifying this year as a result (Although they may enter at as later round for Waratah Cup duties. Does anybody have any further information regarding this? Also, there was talk 12 months ago and even earlier that the 2016 FFA Cup would have the winners qualify for the Champions League, either as a full spot or the .5 spot. Currently the other full spot belongs to the Grand Final winner, or runner up should the Grand Final winner also win the regular A-League season. I can't see the FFA taking away the full spot from the grand final, as that'd lose a bit of meaning for it. If it's going to happen can honestly see them using the .5 spot. Does anybody know any more about this as well?

I haven't looked on the AFC PDFs but on Wikipedia it states Australia can only have 3 teams as you can only have 33% from the first league. The FFA should be saying "Why can't we have a forth spot via the FFA Cup?" Every other country with more than 1 spot has the cup winner. So even if they took away GF winner, Australia should get 1 & 2 and cup winner in group stage and 3rd as the play off. The Thai team is making a mockery of the comp & should be playing in the AFC Cup. The FFA sweet talked the AFC into allowing the finals series to be Australia's equivalent of domestic cup. They have talked Australia out of one spot themselves. Edited by scott21: 19/3/2016 06:08:26 AM

Edited by scott21: 19/3/2016 06:08:26 AM I'm pretty sure it's a points allocation based on the standard of the individual's league performance in the eyes of the AFC which is reviewed yearly. Due to certain circumstances. http://www.the-afc.com/afc-champions-league-2014/afc-champions-league-slots-allocated-for-2015-2016No team has directly 4 spots, either. The maximum available is 3+1 - or 3.5. Can't see Australia moving from 2.5 until a few things change.

Update on the cup if you're not following the qualifications... Everybody's favourite underdog from last year Balmain Tigers FC are out! Knocked out 6-1 by Picton Rangers who play technically in the 6th division of NSW football (Illawarra Premier League should really be on par with NPL1 or NPL2 at worst, but meh).

So the quest for the 2016 FFA Cup is really starting to roll forwards. Overnight, the 5 NSW spots remaining were filled. Congratulations to Sydney United 58, who qualify for their 3rd consecutive FFA Cup finals appearance with a 2-1 win over fellow ex-NSL club Sydney Olympic. Sydney Olympic will be obviously disappointed, but Sydney United have been in excellent form throughout the NSW NPL1 season thus far, and the FFA Cup. United, who have been largely disappointing in their first two FFA Cup appearances, will be looking for a good run this year. Fellow NSL giants, Wollongong Wolves have also qualified, with a tightly contested affair in Wollongong against country NSW team Wagga City Wanderers, who have had an amazing cup run up until now, although have been quiet lucky having played all matches up to this point at home. They also got an easy run into this final round of qualifying when Gladesville-Ryde Magic forfeited, not being able to muster the players for the ~5.5 hour drive each way out to Wagga Wagga on a weekday. Wollongong won 1-0 thanks to a goal midway through the 2nd half. Wagga City should still be very proud of their overall achievements thus far. They could have been an interesting stumbling block for many an NPL team had they qualified. This will be Wollongong's 2nd appearance in the FFA Cup finals, having qualified for the inaugural FFA Cup under their former name South Coast Wolves. Manly United have also qualified for the Round of 32, for the second time running. They defeated NPL2 club Mounties Wanderers from Western Sydney. Manly United's inaugural cup appearance was the first FFA Cup, however lost to Sydney Olympic 3-1, despite opening the scoring. Hopefully the boys from the Northern Beaches can do a little better this time. The two new debutants to the cup are Bonnyrigg White Eagles, who defeated one-time FFA Cup qualifiers Parramatta Eagles 5-3 in a highly thrilling match that saw 2 red cards given to Parramatta. Bonnyrigg are a Serbian backed club, and are just next door to Sydney United 58. Marconi Stallions, the once big Italian club, who are now sitting in the NPL2 are the other new face to the competition from NSW. They defeated fellow NPL2 club Bankstown Berries 2-0 to qualify. It'll be interesting to see how they fare in the competition. Will be also interesting to see where they decide to play their games. Marconi Stadium is now a shell of it's former glorious past, with half the ground basically now unusable, having had a major grandstand removed. Perhaps if they draw a NPL or a state federation club they'll play at Marconi, but should they draw an A-League club the game is likely to be moved to a larger stadium. Parramatta Stadium would be the nearest 'major' stadium, but they could also perhaps shift games to Campbelltown or Penrith. If things get properly desperate, maybe they could use the Sydney United Sports Centre. I'd assume the same goes for Bonnyrigg. It'd be OK for an inter-state member federation club, but if they were to host an A-League club, they'd probably have to shift it.

I'm pretty sure Bonnyrigg beat Dunbar's NPL 3 side, not their local Eastern Suburbs team.

Wagga City's first match was away just to set the record straight. An 11-1 win over Putney Rangers.

I hate clubs having to move games. I know it's a necessity, but it still annoys me.

I think the FFA have finally realised how shit it is and will stop being difficult over this. If I remember properly, FFA actually tried to get Hume to actually stay at their ground after the ridiculous attempt by them to play at Etihad. Both they and Fox Sports have figured out that people are more interested when they broadcast from the local stadiums as it's easier to sell the narrative. Heidelberg v City at Olympic Village was actually an enjoyable night of football, Bayswater v Sydney FC at an empty NIB Stadium was a fucking pointless exercise.

Fellow NSL giants, Wollongong Wolves have also qualified, with a tightly contested affair in Wollongong against country NSW team Wagga City Wanderers, who have had an amazing cup run up until now, although have been quiet lucky having played all matches up to this point at home.
Wagga City's first match was away just to set the record straight. An 11-1 win over Putney Rangers. Ah, there you go. The more you know. I thought they'd played all their at home.

Definitely gonna head to Cromer Park if they make it. As everybody keeps qualifying, I'll keep doing this Road to the Cup. Once the competition starts, I'll move them all to the OP. Going to be a massive OP.

Everything at our ground meets the criteria needed (even the overhead power lines  )
EXCEPT the Foxsports requirement for lighting, we are at 300 lux or so and 500 is needed. Will cost 50k+ to get an upgrade, i dont know how they expect us to pull out numbers like that. Most of these clubs scrape by as it is, pretty hard to find that cash when your club volunteers/committees are made of tradesmen.

Is it 500 for an A-League team? If you manage to pull say the Wanderers, Sydney, or Victory, it shouldn't be too difficult to cover. Popping down to the local Kennards Hire should get you the extra lighting.

had a lot of fun that night, there was 11,000 there. probably only 2,000 City supporters too. Most people there like myself were just football fans enjoying a mid week cup tie. I don't live close to Heidelberg either, I live about 30-40 minutes away. If the game was at AAMI I probably wouldn't have went. It's just more enjoyable given that suburban feel, good cheap food and cheap beers.

Exceeding even those of us on here with the wildest expectations of what the FFA Cup could be.
