Quote:Cup issues Alex Fair @AJFair85
June 20, 2016, 12:03 p.m.
If granted the opportunity to face-off against an A-League opponent, Devonport look likely to play that ‘’home’’ FFA Cup fixture in Launceston.
CUP ISSUES: Devonport Strikers president Rod Andrews says there are some logistical hurdles for the club if they are drawn a home FFA Cup fixture. Aurora Stadium would be the venue due to the strength of lights needed for a television broadcast, a strength that Valley Road does not possess.
Strikers president Rod Andrews explained that this one of the many logistical factors the club is facing after their qualification for the competition after last Monday’s Lakoseljac Cup win.
‘’It is a complicated draw for that competition, with a lot of ifs, buts and hypotheticals, but it really is an exciting time,’’ Andrews said on Sunday.
‘’While there are a whole range of logistical requirements, the lights are big stumbling block.
‘’You need 500 lux to televise a game and it would be odds on that they would televise it if it was an A-League club.
‘’Aurora Stadium is the only option in the North that could do that, but that is a challenge for us as well.
‘’But is a good problem to have.’’
Andrews believed playing the game at Aurora would open it up to the entire state, in what would no doubt be one of the biggest games in the state’s soccer history.
However, If the club were granted a home fixture against another NPL club from interstate, that would be at Valley Road.
‘’But we need to work on the lighting a bit, because the way they broadcast the round of 32, that show bits and pieces from all the games.’’
‘’If a goal is scored they go to that and look at the goal, so you have to have some television broadcast capability. You have to have 200 lux for that, and we will need to move some lights around to ensure that.’’
The midweek game, which could be in late July, would need to fit in with Aurora Stadium’s commitments, with no activity allowed on that ground during the lead-up to Hawthorn matches.
The Hawks will play Carlton at the venue on Saturday, July 30.
Andrews said he was likely to get four preferred dates around July 27 if they get a home fixture.
Other logistical issues that the club has include finding space for ASADA officials, the grass being mowed to a certain level and even the size, number and type of sandwiches for teams and officials.
But Andrews said to have these issues was exciting for the club as a whole.
‘’You don’t dare think about this level until you win the Lakoseljac Cup, but then you can dream.
‘’But coming with that is a big smackdown to reality where you have to hypothetically organise all this before it happens.
‘’It is scary, but exciting at the same time.
‘’They will get to become a professional footballer for 48 hours, which is a dream for some of those guys.’’
The round of 32 draw will take place on Thursday, June 30.
The draw will see the 10 A-League clubs will be put in pot A, and the Strikers will be one of the 22 member federation clubs in pot B.

If it was 20 minutes away I could understand, but it's over an hour away ffs. Just play it at Devonport oval, tbh a tas side v an a-league side probs wouldn't be that good for to anyway.

Fucking serious? What's wrong with a bit of good old cheese & Vegemite, or Ham, cheese & tomato. Now days too many c*nts are wound up on gluten free shit, whether it's wholemeal, or if the bread is Helga, with extra dollop! They should thank themselves lucky they'e probably not getting served up pre-made devon and tomato sauce sandwiches, with the tomato sauce having seeped through the bread.

What a fucking joke. We need the majority of games played on Saturday afternoons, the lighting requirements are too much for most clubs.

Agreed, but it's not so much television as much as an insurance factor. Which is bullshit when NPL and lower league clubs have to play to a lesser standard than A-League teams. Nanny state nonsense. Not much "magic of the cup" if clubs can't play at their own stadium Exactly. The whole point of the cup was to have the Pros play out in the community, brought down to play the everyday teams and perform in the shit conditions that amateurs have to deal with. I want to see someone like Broich or Carrusca have to go through the whole State League package. Grotty as fuck away change rooms with cold showers, grime on the floor and the chill and rain blowing through the windows. Moving games to other pro sports venues just gives the A-League and big NPL clubs a bigger advantage as the facilities are more to their comfort.
