I doubt it. Today is the first I've heard of it. Apparently the FFA were OK with it when the fixtures were announced. If they were OK with it then, I can't see them forcing a move less than 48 hours away. Surely they'd give a weeks notice.

When we played SFC they were testing our lights up until a day or two prior to the game. Wouldnt put anything past the FFA

The FFA can say what they like but Foxtel insist it is played midweek. It is their sponsorship money but the r32, r16 & r8 all occur before the A-League kicks off and they should all be on the weekend when the sun is up (unless all a-league match that can be played midweek).

If they clash with NPL , play those games midweek instead.

Some people are never happy

I love mid week football. Not to mention if they leave it much longer to start the Round of 32 you go into the NPL clubs off-season. I'd rather have the NPL clubs get a benefit from the timing than the A-League clubs.

Like I mentioned earlier, the introduction of the NPL and the FFA Cup is one little step towards a national second tier at the very least. If clubs start showing that they're ready for the step up, then it'll help them in the long run whether it be in this administration or the next, or whenever.

In my opinion, when we start to see consistency in the clubs winning their state leagues and competing the npl national championship and the FFA Cup on a regular basis, basically when things have settled and the cream rises to the top, thats when the trigger needs to be pulled on teams for a second division.

I am saying start at the same time but play on the weekends.

This is for the benefit of the NPL teams.

Firstly, they would be able to get bigger crowds and generate more revenue. Many more fans imo would be willing to head down to matches played on Saturdays instead of midweek (which may be problematic in bigger cities).

Secondly, ALL NPL teams would be able to play their games at their home grounds. So we dont have the likes of Redlands playing in Brisbane or Olympic playing at QE2.

Yes, it is good for the tv,... but pretty shit for fans who want to attend and for clubs that dont have the correct lighting.

I am of the opinion , deal with it. It is far better to have a team travel across the country on a weekend and make up an local NPL match during the week than vice versa.

I know very little about air travel, but something tells me it's also probably cheaper to fly mid-week than it is on the weekend or on the Friday.

I dont think it is that. I think it has to do with Foxtel wanting people to watch AFL and NRL on the weekends more than anything else.

Plenty of mid-week matches in every other country. It's just part of the sport.

Attendances may take a hit, but I like spreading out the football days. Same with Thurs and Mon matches. I know they're not the most popular, but my week looks better when I have 5 days of football instead of 1 weekend.

This matters if the comp is on the same time as the season but it isnt. Only the 2 semis and the final are during the A-League season.

I love Monday home games as it doesnt eat int your weekend.

Personally I think the FFA should be looking at the likes of Geelong, Wollongong, Gosford and even perhaps Newcastle to have teams and play Monday nights and even Thursdays as they are small regions in an expanded league (under no p/r conditions etc blabla after Shire and SM come in .. and Brisbane 2 :) ) . WP are lucky because of the time difference.

You had me at Geelong.

Don't know if I'd say WP are lucky though. I prefer watching the prime match at 7:45. Otherwise I'd be sitting there eating dindin and watching the Vuck

I think it has more to do with Foxtel using all their OB vans and cameramen bringing AFL and NRL to the masses during winter.

Lets pretend there were 3 teams that shared Mondays and they were CCM, WW and Geelong. Every third home games was on a Monday for each. Not the big games of course. The likes of WP etc CCM v PG and so on. You wouldnt really endup with that fewer fans for a 7pm ko. If the benefit was to have 2 extra teams in the league it is hardly a big deal.

Surely every CCM fan doesnt work in Sydney?

A couple of years ago it was over 30,000 commuting from the coast - probably closer to 35,000 now - which probably equates to someone in every third residence. I don't think we are in a position to not take into account people associated with one third of our market.

Put it another way - plenty of people turn out after work for 20/20 cricket in the capital cities. It is a night at the football with your mates. I've done it enough times for Socceroo games starting at 7:45 or 8 pm and still commuted to the Coast. A 7 or 7:30 pm game at Allianz, Parramatta or AAMI gives you time to grab dinner or a few beers either before or after the game.

You are also saying lets make the least desirable games for a Coastie to attend even less desirable

I think there a is better chance of people watching the games on tv on a Monday than a Sunday involving your team. The likes of SFC, WSW, MV can generate interest for Sunday games but your numbers are terrible.

We do good in FFA cup blah blah get national coverage and the crowds will come.
The Croats got 8000+ against Sydney FC and they are still in the same ship as us in regards to crowds
Hume City & Bentleigh average horrendous crowds, both these teams cashed in as well and to this day enjoy coverage.

Everything you guys have written is FANTASTIC in theory but when it comes down to it, it does not work

Not that man, just the entire mentality over there is different in regards to respect for the sport etc.

When my team Red Star Belgrade had to play some 4th divsion team in the national cup and complained about the run down venue how it wont accommodate our fans etc the got told to suck it up by the federation.

We've only had 2 seasons and 4 games of the Cup. Early days.

Not that man, just the entire mentality over there is different in regards to respect for the sport etc.

When my team Red Star Belgrade had to play some 4th divsion team in the national cup and complained about the run down venue how it wont accommodate our fans etc the got told to suck it up by the federation.

Ah the ex-SFRY. A bastion of health and safety!

Wait, people on here are still talking about football?!?! Thought we were just discussing the changes today...

Hoping my whisky tasting doesn't go too late so I can watch some of the games tonight. Hope CCM becomes the first HAL team out. Go Gully!
