Wollongong best Dunbar 2-1 last night in the 5th round (I think). A Daniel Fornito thunderbolt for Dunbar wasn’t enough to hold off a good Wollongong side. Good outing for an NPL 3 side to give the wolves such a good crack

Agree MCG re FFACup could be so much more but for now WE, the local long time football supporters are supporting our Clubs and loving it....... Josh, good to see Dunbar gave Wolves a run for the money, they are one of our foes in PL3, a well drilled Club in all their grades at SNR level. We Ryde Magic from the same comp proudly hosted Sydney United last night........ Taken from our FB : Gladesville Ryde Magic F.C Official Site · On a Wednesday night under the Christie Park lights undefeated NPL3 High Flyers Gladesville Ryde Magic welcomed NPL1 juggernaut Sydney United. With a wealth of experience all across the pitch and a hungry and well structured team Magic did not have most of the possession but seemed to control the game, creating the better chances. With fierce quick combinations on the counter between Chris Gaitatzis, Christos Tomaras and newcomer Zoran Kolundzic, Gladesville Ryde Magic got their shots off in dangerous areas but the goal didn’t come. In the second half, Magic still kept their structure but United pilled on the pressure getting the ball out wide and trying to deliver a blow to the Magic defence. Cult figure and 5 time NPL3 Goalkeeper of the Year, Kyriakos Tohouroglou pulled off a couple magnificent saves but a bit over an hour of play Sydney United got the goal they were looking for and managed to hold on to the 1-0 lead till the end. It was a game enjoyed by the crowd that gathered on a cold Wednesday night and even though before the game a Sydney United win might have been the expected result, Gladesville gave a good account of themselves and will take pride in their overall team performance. Sydney United are into the next round of the FFA Cup and both teams will now focus on their respective league matches over the weekend with Magic looking to stay top of their league and United trying to close the gap to the top in NPL1.
Shame were out, would have loved seeing a Cupset and we had some early chances when having a full tank of gas but the telling part is the fitness difference. Could match the skill set but not being first to the ball was telling overall. Thanks SU supporters for the atmosphere and good luck next round. Look forward to next season for us.

i called it when the draw was annouced that GRM were going to be tricky opponents, and they certainly were. you guys had a few chances early on to take the lead, but other than that i thought we controlled the game, we just lack the killer finisher/touch at the moment. our fullback Roberts has scored more goals than our striker, so that tells you something. Yeeros was tops, onto the next

agree SU58, hence why I said the fitness difference, first to the ball and retaining possession. We couldn't hang on to the ball and obviously relying on the counter, our backs couldn't give the front good enough ball. Yer you guys created enough to score 4-5, we were lucky there and Kiri made a couple of good saves - should put Roberts up front lol..... Well played enjoyed seeing the quality on our turf for a change instead of me getting to Lambert watching your games vs APIA.

Its a wee bit tricky to keep up with everything going on in each state at this stage tbh. People still love the cup but it's lost one of its main early narratives of which clubs will be the first to reach the ro32. I think next season the cup needs to be adjusted to boost some interest in the earlier rounds by making the bottom 4 A-League teams appear in the in-state qualifying rounds. If they really wanted to give things a kick up the arse, they could do that plus making an Australia wide round of 64.

If all Federations could set aside FFA Cup weekends to be played simultaneously (play NPL catch up games mid-week), that would be a great build up of interest leading into the Round of 32. At least for rounds 5, 6 & 7. Imagine if all 21 Round 7 games were played across one weekend to see who qualifies for the National stages.
