It's a shame that Gold Coast Football decided not to run its own knockout competition, instead just giving their 2013 league champions a crack at Palm Beach. The winner of the tie only has two more games left to qualify, although I fancy Sunshine Coast Fire will quite comfortably beat any team the Gold Coast or South West Queensland can muster up! Look forward to seeing the Waratah Cup draw also, cheers Mitsos

They could qualify for the Cup proper through Qld though.

Great to here of the cup launch happening on Monday. It also may explain why the Tuggeranong United decision went unannounced. We will finally get an answer to the Phoenix conundrum too which will help clear qualification up for good.
Best of luck to those teams competing in regional Queensland throughout the weekend.

Is it just me or do you feel we are missing a truly national cup and second division without Northern Territory participation. :(

FFA Cup places are awarded to states purely on the basis of participation numbers. NT does not have enough players and hence gets zero spots.
Even if you merged an NT comp with Queensland (as an example), the cost of travel would likely be too much for clubs at that level.
Australia is massive, to organise something on the scale we currently have is a great achievement. Just for some scale - I'm from Plymouth in England and teams complain when they travel away because it's a long way from home. In reality for 90% of clubs the journey is less than half the length of Brisbane > Sydney.
Elsewhere: Park Ridge defeated The Lakes 3-1 in the final Round 1 match of the Canale Cup.

Welp, the Decision is in. Tuggeranong United WILL be in the 2014 FFA Cup. http://home.tufc.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=232%3Atuggies-in-the-ffa-cup&catid=9%3Aannouncements&Itemid=26Quote:Tuggeranong United are excited to announce that the club will represent the Capital Football region in the inaugural Football Federation Australia (FFA) Cup in 2014. TUFC were confirmed the region's team as the winners of the ACT Federation Cup in 2013. Each year the winner of this Cup will go on to compete with the best of Australia, including A-League clubs, for the honour of lifting the FFA Cup, and TUFC is proud to be the ACT's first.
The FFA Cup has long been desired by football fans around the country. Based on the English FA Cup model, it is aimed at allowing any club at any level to have a chance at challenging Australia's best. The Cup will begin in each state and territory's local competition, mostly using their own knockout cup as the feeder, with each one having a certain amount of spots in the FFA Cup proper, based on their participant numbers. So the ACT only has 1 spot, whereas NSW has 8 and Victoria has 4. Most tantalising is that A-League sides (excluding Wellington) will be included. This is not just a amateur competition, this is a top level professional Cup, and the winner will be the toast of the nation, and it's pretty exciting that Tuggeranong United will be a big part of it! Of course the beauty of the FFA Cup model is that there will have been hundreds of teams a part of it, including Tuggies State League 3, Weston Molonglo and Narrabundah. So expect come Cup Final time, a whole bunch of blokes sitting around watching Fox Sports saying, "I played in this comp you know!".
The TUFC committee are also determined that the club's involvement in this highly anticipated competition should bring benefits off the field as well. An internal taskforce is being assembled to ensure that there are long lasting marketing and sponsorship benefits and that the club's large supporter and junior base is just as involved as the players. There will be more news to come on how all of the Club can be involved in this landmark occasion. We don't know the exact format yet, and we don't know who we will play and where, but we know that the FFA Cup had better look out, because Tuggies are coming.

Quote:Each year the winner of this Cup will go on to compete with the best of Australia, including A-League clubs, for the honour of lifting the FFA Cup Does this mean the timing will be off compared to other states? The winner of this year's Fed Cup will represent ACT in next year's FFA Cup?

Yep, the ACT will work off a slightly different system. Winner of their cup for 2013 qualifies for the 2014 FFA Cup, so winner of their cup for 2014 qualifies for the 2015 FFA Cup.
I guess they're a capital city so they can do what they want! Welcome aboard Tuggeranong United.

NSW have been given 7 qualification spots for the Waratah Cup.
Wellington Phoenix have been included.
Sydney United will not automatically qualify through winning the NPL.

It'll be interesting to see how they do this. 8 teams make the quarter finals, so who misses out?

In the interests of nostalgia, does this mean then it will be fairly simples for Fury to qualify? They only have to beat FNQ as main rivals? PB?

Fury must beat a local team from Townsville, then two further matches against regional sides that could include NPL teams FNQ Heat (Cairns) and CQ Energy (Rockhampton).

What on earth happens to NSW qualification now that Wellington have taken one of their spots? It's not like they can just take all the quarter finalists from the Waratah Cup anymore.
