I'm so excited for next year. Couldn't justify making it back for NPL1 games but I'm more excited for Somer St and Lakeside away than i would be for most A-League fixtures.

I find it interesting how centralised the NPLV is becoming. Over this season and last season Ballarat, Goulburn Valley and North Geelong have been relegated, even Werribee and Dandenong were probably the next least central teams and they've gone down too with Avondale, Bulleen, Richmond & Victory all coming up. The NPL1 sides will be clocking up a fair few kms traveling to and from games next year

Werribee is 20 minutes from the city  it's literally a stone throw.

It's a shame but it just reflects where the power is and the difficulty of just dropping new clubs into the top tier. The regional clubs really need to focus on establishing themselves into the community first and getting the most of young country lads because they can't compete with city clubs, especially if they drop out of the top tier.

Is there any news of further expansion from the FFV or is that it? I still think we need a new Geelong/Surf Coast side as well as a team in Gippsland (Bring back Morwell Falcons) before we can comfortably say we are done.

No idea what FFV has lined up tbh but I think transplanting teams into the NPL has been a bust and they should leave it to happen organically in future. For example, there's Morwell Pegasus & Warragul Utd out that way in SL1 that have the opportunity to push for promotion once the FFV allows pro/rel from NPL1

Also, I'm hoping that the Surf Coast region obliterated their chances of ever having an NPL side when they floated the idea of entering the comp under the name Great Ocean Roar

I'm guessing you have no idea of what actually happened if that's the attitude you have. The amount they were fined wouldn't come close to covering the damage they did to the refs car, let alone every thing else they did that was worthy of a sanction

Yep, the incident that sparked it was from about 7:25 here with ref calling the goal offside then consulting the lino and changing his decision to allow the goal:

The ref's car had every panel dented & keyed, mirrors & lights smashed etc. plus there's the other offences relating to the threatening/intimidating/offence language & behaviour and throwing stuff at the refs as they left the field

The word i had was inappropriate language towards the ref.

This is fucked up.

I would just like it to be noted that North Geelong were not promoted by the FFV whatsoever. We were in State League 1 prior to the introduction of the NPL and were placed into the NPL1 which was the equivalent of SL1. We then achieved promotion organically in 2014 and were relegated only through a playoff in 2015. Mind you we were above Ballarat in the football pyramid prior to the introduction of the NPL and despite both being "regional clubs", the Geelong region with far more registered players, Ballarat were placed into NPL and North Geelong into NPL1.

And why do we need another Geelong side? Surf Coast are a shambles in State 4 or State 5 or wherever they are.

I’m not implying anything by this question, and I have no allegiances to any clubs in the area, nor am I trying to stir any ethnic pots and I congratulate North Geelong on their successes so far, but do North Geelong fully represent Football in Geelong?

I saw Geelong SC play this year and although they weren’t anything special would any of their or Corio SC’s top players be better than any of North Geelong’s worst players? Or do all of the good players in Geelong end up playing for North Geelong anyway?
Would all the clubs in Geelong be better off pooling their resources and talents for a combined club in the NPL, or are club loyalties/divisions too strong for that to work. I guess the same could be said about Gippsland.
It could be a way for setting a good framework for any potential future community based A-League bids from the Geelong area.

In the two years of NPL, North Geelong most definitely have represented football in Geelong. Whether that was the case prior is another question entirely. From coaches to players to volunteers, the club has massively diversified recently, a diversification that has been in process for a long time and has simply accelerated recently.

About Corio and Geelong, most of their Geelong based players, and I don't mean to offend anyone by this, failed to make the grade at North Geelong and that is how they ended up where they are. From Boyar and Ortiz at Geelong, to Cook and Versace at Corio, these are all players who spent time at North Geelong without overly impressing, hence their departures.

What benefit would a pooling of resources have and what benefit would that have to clubs not currently in the NPL? North Geelong are operating just fine as an NPL club, with junior results and development improving year on year and finances stable across the board. Added to this, major facility work has begun to bring the club up to date in all aspects. Really hard to see how any other club in the region would fare any better in the NPL.

Lets see how the Geelong Galaxy side does in the Women's NPL before we further explore the creation of a "consortium" or "franchise" team for the region. I'm predicting Galaxy to struggle.

Thanks that's the answers I was looking for. I was suggesting pooling would be a benefit to Football in the region but it would have to come at the detriment of all individual clubs, but from your response it sounds like North Geelong are doing a good enough job of being inclusive of all Geelong.

If the City of Greater Geelong council could pull their finger out and set up a facility such as Morshead Park in Ballarat, I think the Geelong consortium is worth a revisit. That said, looks incredibly unlikely with our incompetent councillors.

Curious to see how we perform in the NPLV. Is there any chatter from the other clubs about our inclusion? Upset, unhappy, glad, relieved etc.

Curious to see how we perform in the NPLV. Is there any chatter from the other clubs about our inclusion? Upset, unhappy, glad, relieved etc.

I think most clubs are pretty happy that they won't be poaching any of their good first-team players, e.g. if Moreland had been promoted instead then they'd be making big offers to players to build a competitve squad, MV won't do that.

The big clubs will be happy enough with the numbers we'll bring to the game.

It's getting to the point that i'm finding our NPL adventure far more interesting and less frustrating than the A-League. You can't overstate the benefit of being a mile away from the FFA's bullshit. I know i'm not the only one more excited for South Melbourne and Melbourne Knights away than I am for any A-League games coming up this season.

We are still going to get flogged this year after Deng, Katebian and Howard have all moved up.
