Just look at the grounds facilities some clubs have in npl1 what a joke.

The two rained out games were at Oakleigh Cannons and Heidelburg United, both NPL and both ex VPL teams, even NSL as well for the latter. I've been to both and think they compare quite well, but obviously the rain disagrees!

If you only see one highlights reel this round, make it this one, Oakleigh vs Green Gully. Goals galore, and the interview as only to be expected by Miron at the end!

I don't think he directly mentioned the PPS, but he did talk about the limits on senior caps for u/20 players, which is of course ridiculous and counter intuitive if the NPL is all about youth.

Also good to hear him speak positively about adding regional teams.

The regional teams have been a huge success. There is a snap of the Fc bendigo active on their Facebook. Get around it.

well firstly most of the team don't even make anywhere near a profit and it also depends on whether the ground is owned by the club of the local council... in most cases its the council and unless you are talking Aussie rules they do not want to hear about it...

Winning Edge Presentations NPL 1 Player of the Month (Rounds 1-4) - Simon Tolli (Moreland Zebras)

Simon Tolli might not be a name too many people are familiar with.

He’s an industrious player, but not illustrious. He’s the type of player coaches want in their team; he gets the job done.

But to date, he is the only player in both NPL and NPL 1 to have been in FFV's match reporters’ top three men on the pitch in every round.

He’s a name you should familiarise yourself with nonetheless, having already contributed two crucial goals to his team’s effort.

FFV's Alen Delic caught up with Tolli to find out what the secret is to his consistency, and what the season has meant for him so far.

AD: How does it feel to be the inaugural player of the month?
It feels good. It’s an honour to win any award, but it’s a good feeling to know you’ve been recognised for your hard work.

What do you put the fast start down to?
I think our hard working mentality to be honest. Believing in yourself, really.

You’ve scored a couple of crackers so far this season. Which one has meant the most to you and why?
I think what meant more to me was the final minute goal against Bendigo. We were behind 2-0 in that game and we really fought hard to make things happen.
To score in the final minute and to at least get something out of the game was a credit to our effort to coming back from a two-goal deficit.
Sunday's goal was good, but last week for sure, meant more.

Is there a difference at Moreland this year than there was last year?
I think overall, the boys, we gel. We’re really good mates and we get along really well.
I wouldn’t say there’s a major difference; the difference is that we’re a lot closer as a unit. Last year we were all new, starting to become friends.
This year, we’re quite a good bunch of guys and we all like each other a lot.

You’ve got the weekend off, looking forward to the break?
Ideally, we’d like to be playing.
We lost 4-3 against Sunshine George Cross last week, but we want to keep playing. Just because we’ve been working hard and I know what our training is going to be like.
We’ll be making sure what happened last week doesn’t happen again.
But having that break might actually be better for us, giving us a chance to reassess and to bring it back into the next game.

The NPL 1 Player of the Month is voted by FFV’s match reporters in a 3-2-1 voting system for each match.

Winning Edge Presentations NPL Player of the Month (Rounds 1-4) - Dusan Bosnjak (Oakleigh Cannons)

Dusan Bosnjak is a high flyer not just on the field, but also off it.

The 23-year-old midfielder balances his football commitments with a full time job as a civil engineer, but football is his greatest passion and he one day hopes to grab an A-League contract.

With three goals already to his name this season and now an award to boot, Bosnjak is edging closer to his dream.

FFV's Julian Trantino caught up with the inaugural NPL Player of the Month to learn more about his journey and gain an insight into his and Oakleigh's blistering start to the season.

JT: Congratulations Dusan. How does it feel to be the inaugural NPL Player of the Month?
DB: It’s a great feeling actually. It feels even better when your team’s doing well.

What would you put your fast start down to?
A lot of it comes from the team itself. We work for each other and work to each other’s strengths, and if the coach allows that then it makes it a lot easier for each player and gives you a lot of confidence, which I think I’m high on.

This is your second season with Oakleigh. Can you take me through your journey to the Cannons?
I was the captain of the Melbourne Heart youth team for the 2011/2012 season. I went back to Bulleen (in 2012), played a pre-season game before the winter season and broke my leg. I was 21 at the time and it was a big hit. I came back to play the last three games for Bulleen that season and then went to Oakleigh last year.

What’s it like playing under Miron Bleiberg?
He’s probably one of the best coaches I’ve ever had, in terms of giving me confidence. When a coach trusts you, it makes you do things that not even you thought you were capable of doing.

You were the hero against Heidelberg United in Round 2, scoring a free kick in the final minute of injury time to hand Oakleigh the win. Can you run me through what was going through your head when you were lining up that free kick?
Well I saw where the ball was and knew deep down that I was never going to cross the ball. Players were going into the box and thought I was going to cross it. Miron [Bleiberg] was behind me and I turned to him and he just said ‘shoot’. So I tried it, it went in and I went straight to him (Miron).

How does this year’s Oakleigh squad compare to last year’s?
It’s a different team, a much younger team this year. We’ve got new players and I think more exciting players. Last year’s team had a lot of experience and there were great players, but I think this year there is a different factor.

What do you do outside of football?
I’m a civil engineer. I graduated from RMIT University last year and this is my first year as a civil engineer, but I’m hoping for an A-League contract. Soccer has always been my passion.

You copped a heavy hit last Friday and had to be subbed off. How have you pulled up?
I got a good knock to the knee, but I did the right thing by the physios and it’s fine now. I’m back and I’ll be out there on Thursday (against Dandenong Thunder).

The NPL Player of the Month is voted by FFV's match reporters in a 3-2-1 voting system for each match.

Winning Edge Presentations Rising Star of the Month (NPL or NPL 1, Rounds 1-4) - Matt Millar (Dandenong Thunder)

If it wasn’t the school holidays, we might have interrupted Matthew Millar in the middle of his last period on a school day.

But luckily for us, Millar was on a two-week break from studying for his VCE when he took a call to find out he had been named as the inaugural Winning Edge Presentations Rising Star of the Month.

FFV's Alen Delic caught up with the Dandenong Thunder full back-cum-midfielder to find out how he felt about receiving his award.

AD: How does it feel to be named the first NPL rising star?
MM: It’s unreal. It’s a little overwhelming. Going into the season I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a start, and now I’m suddenly getting an award. Unreal.

You’ve come a long way since you first broke into the first team last year. What’s been the catalyst?
I didn’t have that much of an off-season because I was with Melbourne Heart and that kept me fit. It was good; I played a couple of games and that was an achievement. Coming into the NPL, it meant that I felt a lot more confident in my ability and more composed.

What’s it like to have made the move into midfield? Enjoying it?
It’s a lot better to get on the ball more. Getting up and down the pitch is good. I’m really enjoying it.

Can you talk me through your goal against Green Gully?
It’s all a bit hazy. I just remember getting the ball in the middle of the park, looked up and there was nothing really in front of me. I just ran, kept on running and it sort of opened up for me. I just took it on and hit it and it went in. it all happened so fast.

How have you found the atmosphere at Thunder this year and working under coach Dean Hennessey?
He’s a good coach. He gives you a lot of confidence in your ability. He’ll let you know what he wants from you and everything’s really clear on the pitch.

Are we going to see you in the squad on Thursday? Any reason you were missing this weekend?
I copped a tackle last minute against Hume City and because of the short turnaround I didn’t want to risk getting injured again and being out for too long. But if all goes well, I should be in the squad this week.

The Rising Star of the Month is voted by FFV’s match reporters in a 3-2-1 voting system for each match. The highest ranking player U20 (NPL or NPL 1) is awarded the Rising Star of the Month.

Bit of a rough first half - fantastic save from Saldaris but nothing much else to talk about. Second half a lot better, Milos coming up with the goods again. 6 out of 6 now. Setting ourselves up pretty well for the season.

I said when Gaspa scored that one in the first weekend that no one would top it this season - my opinion hasn't changed. Blinding goal.
