Japan will be tough to beat though. It will be a great game. 3am German time. I'll be staying up for it.

Japan game crucial for Ivory Coast 2014-06-11 08:29 Cape Town - As Ivory Coast are prepping to open their World Cup campaign against Japan on Saturday June 14 in Brazil, the Elephants’ winger Gervinho has claimed that a victory over the Samurai Blue would be crucial to the Ivorians’ success in the tournament. Ivory Coast are yet to pick a win in a World Cup opener since they first qualified in 2006 in Germany, where they lost their first group match 2-1 to Argentina, and played a goalless draw against Portugal in their 2010 World Cup opener. “In a competition, winning your first match is very important. It provides the required confidence to continue,” Gervinho said on Tuesday. “We are conscious of this fact and will strive to overcome Japan in order to confidently take on the other two members of Group C, Colombia and Greece, who are also not easy sides,” the Roma player said. After two weeks of groundwork in Dallas, Texas, the Ivorian team traveled to Brazil last Thursday with some worries about the injury situation of midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure, who did not play their warm up matches against Bosnia and Salvador. Coach Sabri Lamouchi remains unsure whether the Manchester City star will feature against Japan. But the team’s medical staff say Toure is recovering nicely from a thigh injury and could come in as substitute against the Asians at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife on Saturday. http://www.sport24.co.za/Soccer/WorldCup/Japan-game-crucial-for-Ivory-Coast-20140611

Mouthwatering clash to be honest. African flair vs Asian precision. Toure will run riot but Kagawa knows what to do. Hopefully Hannover right back Sakai starts instead of Uchida as he is much better going forward. Such a shame it is on at 3am German time but what can you do?

Can anyone explain why this game is kicking off at the 10pm local time? (Recife is on the Eastern tip of Brazil)
Ok, it caters for Japan's population of 127 million people, but shouldnt the games go from East to West in a way to accommodate for Brazil's 3 time zones?
The Japanese are not so lucky on games 2 and 3, 7am local time kick off and 5am kick off for game 3
Korea has not been accomodated as much, although it is still 7, 5 and 4am kickoffs for their games

Brilliant goal to Honda. IC keeper looked like he was taking a shit in the goal mouth rather than focusing on the play. The shot was from at least 16 yards to his near post and he didn't even move

Thats what you get when you play negatively.
Japan should be more proactive like they normally are.

I really don't get the Japan love on these forums, thought they were thoroughly outplayed. Their half time lead was undeserved, thanks to the brilliance of Honda against the run of play.
They couldn't even beat the struggling Holger-led Australia in the qualifiers.

Couldn't believe how disappointing Japan were, excluding Honda's goal and some of his other early forays. If Kagawa is semi-injured he shouldn't be playing. Totally invisible. Elephants great value for the win, just need to take their opportunities a bit better.

As Les Gock said, I wish we had this group. I thought it was a poor game to be truthfull and Kagawa had a game to forget. Did I hear the commentry right, their coach has not coached before now, used to be in media but applied for the job and got it? Very strange if it's true.

The Honda goal was great Jap Goal keeper was worst then Ryan really should of saved the second Cô where the better team and there aerial dominace had Jap beaten 9/10 Japan deserved to lose but they aren't out of the world cup yet, Korea is probably Asias only hope of making it to the round of 16 left...

They couldn't even beat the struggling Holger-led Australia in the qualifiers. Japan were unusually terrible in this game. They didn't play their usual proactive game.

And all Zaccharoni's fault. 100% He has taken a team that was playing a wonderful one touch short passing game with plenty of movement off the ball to a static one camped in its own half relying on long ball counters and crosses against opponents who are taller and stronger. Zaccahrini has panicked after them not winning a game in the Confed Cup due to defensive lapses and just plain bad luck and thrown out their entire game. Endo on the bench FFS! How an Italian coach can get it so wrong tactically is beyond me. I think he is coaching his last two games.
