Melbourne could finally get the derby its self styled status as Australia's Sporting capital warrants..closer to a 50/50 representation in the stands if City's ST/Membership sales translating into attendances:) Good to see growth in the League. 2 years ago that boost from WSW was huge, I'm really hopeful that MlbCity will be the next boost. True, it could be a good thing, however it may be best that the Syd derby got more to a point of 50/50 too... From what I could tell in the matches played, the crowd seems to be dominated by red and black :) As for the Melb City numbers, these have bee rising in a fairly consistent manner, with only sporadic news about the club being announced or reported on. The next increases will likely come after marquees are announced, Villa arrives and/or reporting ramps up leading towards the season commencing.

That may be the case at Pirtek since they have such a large membership compared to the size of the ground. However, don't believe what you see on TV away from there in NSW. WSW is the new toy for Fox and they tend to focus their cameras on them.

Active Supporter bays expand with membership demand Wednesday, 30 July 2014 1:15 PM Active Supporter bays expand with membership demand Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the expansion of the Active Supporter areas for the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season. With less than 100 seats left in the current area of Bays 16, 17 and 18 at the Yarra River end, the Club will be extending these bays vertically to accommodate the increasing demand for Active Supporter memberships. Our supporters have been the lifeblood of the Club and will continue to be vital part of the Melbourne City FC match day experience. The Club is excited about the potential to grow the active bays, with even more colour and sound filling the stands of AAMI Park. As a celebration of the expansion, Melbourne City FC are offering one lucky Active Supporter member the chance to present the Man of the Match award when the Club plays its inaugural Westfield FFA Cup match against Sydney FC in Ballarat on August 12. Simply sign up another new Active Supporter member by Friday 1 August and the winner will be drawn and notified on the day of the match. Are you new to the Active Supporter experience? See for more details about how you can be part of the atmosphere here. Please refer to the AAMI Park stadium map for further information on the bays that will be expanding. If members or fans have any questions, please contact membership@melbournecityfc.com.auhttp://www.footballaustralia.com.au/melbourneheart/news-display/Active-Supporter-bays-expand-with-membership-demand/91399

Quote:City’s active support-base surges
Melbourne City FC’s home matches at AAMI Park promise to be full of noise and colour with the club expanding their active supporter areas due to increased demand ahead of the new Hyundai A-League season. With excitement around the club reaching fever pitch following the additions of David Villa for ten games and Damien Duff for the season, fans are flocking to get their active supporter memberships for the new season.
Less than 100 seats are left in the current section in bays 16, 17 and 18 at the Yarra River end, compelling club officials to extend these bays vertically to get more people in.
Melbourne City FC’s first home match of the new Hyundai A-League season is against Newcastle Jets on October 19.
Before that, John van ‘t Schip’s troops have their first hit-out in the Westfield FFA Cup round of 32 against Sydney FC in Ballarat on August 12.
The squad recently returned from the UK where they spent almost three weeks training at Carrington in Manchester, the home base of majority owners Manchester City.
Melbourne City FC memberships for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season are now on sale! Be more than a fan, become a member. Click here for more information and to sign up today. http://www.a-league.com.au/article/citys-active-support-base-surges/wri6t7runpny185jx0hvdzeqj

'It's still 70 DAYS until Season 10 kicks off and Club Memberships have passed 55,000 chasing the target of 110,000 members across all clubs. SHARE this great news if you're already a member!'
- Hyundai A-League Facebook Page
At this rate, I don't see why we can't get there. Have Wellington released memberships yet? Surely during the recent football tournament would have been an ideal way to attract new members to sign up based on impulse purchasing.

There's a discrepancy of around two thousand or so, between the numbers that are known to us, as reflected in Joffa's tally, and what the FFA have announced? Second deluka's question and add that perhaps that discrepancy could be the Phoenix number? Or indeed, I believe, the Phoenix number combined with the surely hundreds more sign ups that the likes of less frequent up-daters, AU, Roar and Glory have gained since their last respective announcements. That would make sense and clarify the discrepancy? :-k Edited by GloryPerth: 31/7/2014 10:40:01 PM
