Redlands Farewell Little Red Devil

Redlands United have unveiled a new club crest and a new kit supplier as they seek to rejuvenate the club’s image as they approach the club’s centenary.

The new crest (pictured) is a stylish circular design that replaces the “little devil” caricature that Queensland football fans have been familiar with since the 1970’s.

The design includes a trident in a nod to the club’s Red Devils nickname - which will be retained - and was chosen from four finalists submitted through an intra-club competition opened to club members.

The new crest coincides with the new kit supply deal with BLK, who also provided graphics design support for competition entrants.

Redlands are in the process of finalising the look of their new playing kits that will feature traditional design elements and are actively seeking sponsors to feature on the new match apparrel.

The club will also undertake a complete rebrand of supporter apparel in conjunction with the new supplier to further promote the club and sponsor brands.

Redlands United General Manager Martin Hampson said the new designs heralded the start of an exciting redevelopment for the club as it seeks to revitalise operations in line with their national second-tier status as part of the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland competition.

“Since doing the design we have received a lot of community support and positive feedback from the club members and supporters,” Hampson said.

“It’s the first part of a redevelopment of the club including our operational structures,” he added.

Those operational structures will include refining coaching and junior development as part of Football Federation Australia’s National Club Accreditation Scheme. Redlands currently hold NCAS Level 1 Accreditation and are actively pursuing the next level.

“We want to come back next season as the most progressive NPL outfit out there,” Hampson said of the overall aim.

“A big part of the rebrand is trying to make the club relevant to the junior players.”

Redlands senior head coach Matt Chandler expressed his fondness for the new designs and general direction of the club.

“I like it. I think it’s very football orientated and is long overdue,” Chandler said.

“The design is about where we are going as a club towards our centenary year in 2018,” he added.

Pretty sure they had no real say in where the FFA Cup logo goes. All clubs have to have it on the right front of the jersey, and not like they're going to put it over their kit makers logo...

Im pretty sure I have seen teams that have the FFA Cup Logo on the sleeve.

Here is one that looks shit house. South Hobart have adopted the Southend United kit which I like, but that sponsor logo looks worse than Webjet and the positioning of the FFA Cup logo looks terrible.

What exactly has happened in the region since the RPL disbanded with the Griffith association?

This probably isn't the correct thread to explain this in.
I'm assuming you mean post 2008 when Hanwood and Yoogali went home from Shepparton. So in Shepparton, you had the GV Suns club forming and joining the Victorian NPL2, meaning all the good local players went there, the 2 Cobram clubs, Tigers and Victory merged to form Cobram Roar, who from this season have gone back to the Albury-Wodonga league. Benalla Rovers were essentially kicked out of AW and have rejoined the Shepparton League.
In Albury, the only other major change is the formation of Murray United also playing in the Victorian NPL2.
In Griffith, when Hanwood & Yoogali came back from Shepparton, they decided to stay in the Griffith League and not return to the Wagga League as they had done the time before. The Wagga League had dropped off considerably since the departure of Hanwood & Yoogali in 2000 and then Leeton in 2002 or when ever. It dropped down to 6 clubs in 1st grade for a while.
In 2014 a club formed in Wagga (Eastern Wanderers) and came to play in the then stronger Griffith Comp, making 1st grade 9 clubs. They left after 1 season and went on to become the foundation for Wagga's State League team Wagga City Wanderers in 2015. The Griffith 1st grade is now down to only 6 clubs, with Wests, City, Hanwood, Leeton and the 2 Yoogali's for 2016. There was talk of Griffith trying to get a State League club going, but it looks like the travel is too far and the powerful clubs can't agree to join forces for the good of football in the City.
With the State League Club now in Wagga, the best players have moved there, but the local comp is picking up again. There are now 10 clubs in 1st grade, with Young leaving the Bathurst comp to come and join Wagga lat year.

In my opinion though I still think the Riverina Branch, especially Griffith, Wagga and South West Slopes would be best suited by leaving FNSW and trying to join Capital Football. A lot closer than Sydney and Rep teams from Griffith and Wagga could probably make a push to becoming NPL clubs in Canberra. Albury should cut all ties with FNSW and become full members of the FFV, not just the split FNSW/FFV set up they have now.

Thanks, i meant more post 2012, when Hanwood, Yoogali FC and SC and Wests linked up with region for that "Super League". That was a horrible concept in Griffith because they basically made our clubs have to dield an extra team, three mens open teams for each club, it really drained the numbers around that year. I'm pretty well versed in the Griffith region, so i was more interested in the Shepparton/Cobram side of things, sounds like they had similar issues but foind their way around it with mergers and one regional team instead of a regional competition. It is quite sad though Yenda dropped out due to lack of numbers this year, but at least they still have all the other grades. I wonder if there is still clubs in like.. Hillston/Hay/Deniliquin though, because I'm pretty sure I didn't see them in the Griffith draw this year.
If only the clubs in Griffith could actually support eachother, they could be quite strong in the state leagues IMO, but thats never going to happen. I mean, the Riverina Rhinos was a step in the right direction, but they should have put everything into trying to go one step further and making them more than just a youth rep team, and now Wagga has the jump on us in that regard.

The squad includes players from Griffith, Leeton and Cootamundra.

Griffith young guns Roy Catanzariti, Jacob Brooker and Isaac Brooker are all still in high school, but have committed to playing for the Wanderers.

The little clubs Hillston/Hay/Deniliquin seem to have disappeared completely for a couple of years from Football Griffith. I know Hay & Deniliquin still have juniors but they only play locally now. Deniliquin is trying to get it's own senior comp running I think.
Riverina Rhinos is certainly a good start and may lead to something in a few years, but I really think Griffith and Wagga should be working together more. I know some Wagga kids go over to Griffith for the Rhinos and I think some Griffith based players came and played with the Wagga City Wanderers in the State League last year.

Looks like Heidelberg Stars have gotten rid of their legless camel.
