Please fix. The inability to add new members is starting to affect discussion. There has been very little traffic as of late. It's surely a simple fix. There are more productive ways to stop spamming. Inconsistent modding is also an issue. If there is a quote pyramid just lock the thread for fuck sake. Just because your mum gets gang banged by a bunch of Egyptians, JoFFA, doesn't mean it's a good idea to ban people for a week for contributing. Fuck sake there is a declining number as it is. And if you do ban them, at least let them be able to contact a mod. Add more mods as well. If half if you aren't even on then add someone who is. It's not rocket science. These are just suggestions if you wish to grow the forums. Couldn't care less if you implement them, it's your forum. Rant over. Fuck you all.

You can trace the forums downturn to the day that Joffa was made a mod.

Mod me, I'll spice things up
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Also remove people as mods when they request it, rather than just agreeing and then doing nothing.

The inconsistent modding isn't really that big an issue... When you have volunteers doing it in their own time, you'll never never get things perfect. Compared to other football forums, this one runs very smoothly and the mods crack down on individuals who need it. This place would go to bedlam if the anti Joffa muppets got their way.

You've never seen me on where? on 442 or in the Feedback section?
Bear in mind the mods do this for free, we aren't paid by 442 and as you all are aware KA is scarce these days due to taking over the Editor's role for the 442 physical mag full time. The mods do the best they can and make their own judgement calls. Its not as if we have a skype session and decide unanimously to lock a thread or suspend someone.
The sale of the Haymarket properties and the new website launch has unfortunately caused a disconnect from the main site to the forums. We got spammed to the shit at one stage and all the IP blocking that KA tried didn't work so instead he just shut down registrations altogether to stem the tide.
Also note that any technical issues are out of the mods hands. We can only suspend users, lock threads, move threads, make a poll, sticky, announcement. That's about it. We can't permaban, we can't IP block etc. If you're locked out of your account due to suspension, you can't contact anyone because (obviously) you can't log in to do so. But surely if you're being a dick repeatedly or post offensive material you should be prepared to be suspended and not be surprised about it when it happens.
And don't bother asking for a forum upgrade. Its not going to happen. Its too big a job for the limited resources they have and they probably have higher priority tasks to deal with in their other properties.
I understand what you're saying, but really...is this place THAT badly run that its a cesspit of crap? Compared to the rest of the internet, this place is pretty damn clean imo

Yeah, fair enough. It's not hard though. I'd set that shit up for free. macktheknife would also be up for that. My understanding is that its not as simple as merely pressing the install button for newer forum software. Its the database of the current forum that is the issue. To migrate it will be a massive task or nigh impossible. Either that, or it gets wiped and we start from scratch. Many people here won't like that because of their precious post counts  ;)

I understand what you're saying, but really...is this place THAT badly run that its a cesspit of crap? Compared to the rest of the internet, this place is pretty damn clean imo Honestly, I'd do mod for free. Ill admit, I dont know how to work everything behind the scenes but I'd learn in a week at most to have everything down pat. The spam wasn't worth the lock of new members. That was stupid reactionary modding. It has really hurt this forum. Just ban those responsible and move on. And 2+2 is not gonna stop spammers ffs. I'm pretty sure that you know well the fact that quoting in a quote pyramid is hardly worthy of a ban for week. Just lock the thread. It doesn't take years of study. This forum is not a pile of shit. I'm posting this out of genuine concern that it may turn into a pile of shit. Obviously it is a huge coincidence that I post this and a couple of days later new forumers are allowed. LOL

all modding is reactionary  That's the point of modding, otherwise we'd have to set it up to approve all comments.
Also TheSelectFew, a lot of the things you just mentioned is out of the mod's hands. That's all KA's jurisdiction. Any of the admin stuff is not done by the mods. We can only affect threads.

Also imo a database is a database, wouldn't be impossible to get two to talk to each other to do a transfer of posts etc. Yeah you might lose some user details but it shouldn't be impossible, not in this day and age. Many people have been willing to give up their time for free to make it happen, powers that be just need to make it happen. -PB

-PB It's not impossible but it may not be straight forward. There's certainly some "hacks" in the version of YAF like the registration page that may spray data into non-standard tables in the database but I'm sure all of it is resolvable. If none of those things exist there are already ways to migrate from YAF to other forum software or indeed to just upgrade. Reapplying branding is actually another area that will take a reasonable effort that often gets overlooked. As for doing it for free. I doubt Haymarket will just hand it over to a bunch of us here to do. There is a whole bunch of commercial issues you have to consider. Maybe someone here runs a consultancy and is happy to draw up some contracts with liabilities covered and do it for free but it won't be me :)
