Quote:Boss Brendan Rodgers has widened keeper search to include 22-year-old who started all 3 matches for Australia at the World Cup in Brazil Liverpool have identified Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan as a possible rival for Simon Mignolet. But the Reds' boss Brendan Rodgers is prepared to wait until the summer to sign a new goalkeeper if he feels he cannot get what he wants this month. Ryan, 22, has impressed for Bruges since joining the Belgian side in 2013 and is currently playing for the Socceroos in the Asian Cup after starting all three matches at the World Cup in Brazil. Liverpool's transfer committee have also proposed Fiorentina's Neto , but Rodgers is not sure if the Brazilian is the long-term answer to his goalkeeping problems. Rodgers is hamstrung because he has little cash to spend this month and may persist with Mignolet until the end of the season when he will have more options. Anfield boss Rodgers would be taking a risk and Mignolet's confidence was hit when he axed him last month. Rodgers only brought the former Sunderland stopper back when understudy Brad Jones injured his thigh and the Australian did not impress during his spell in the first team. Liverpool have picked up in recent weeks and Rodgers feels they can maintain this momentum and challenge for silverware, despite the uncertainty in goal. Fox Sports have picked it up now: Quote:LIVERPOOL is interested in Mat Ryan after the Club Brugge No. 1 was named Belgian Pro League keeper of the year for the second straight season on Thursday. The 22-year-old Aussie - currently with the Socceroos in Australia for the Asian Cup - has played in Belgium for only two seasons, but has picked up the gong twice thanks to his superb form for the ladder leaders. And his consistency hasn’t gone unnoticed, with the Guardian reporting Reds manager Brendan Rodgers to be “monitoring” his situation. “The Liverpool manager has expressed concern over Mignolet’s struggle to adapt to the team’s style since his £9m move from Sunderland in 2013 and second-choice Brad Jones is out of contract at the end of the season,” Andy Hunter writes. Former Central Coast Mariners shotstopper Ryan signed a four-year extension with the Belgian club in November, but that isn’t expected to deter Rodgers, who is in the market for a two No.1s, according to the Guardian. For now, Ryan’s focus will be on the Asian Cup and a group-deciding clash with South Korea in Brisbane on Saturday night. http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/premier-league/socceroo-mat-ryan-named-belgium-pro-league-goalkeeper-of-year-and-is-being-watched-by-liverpool/story-fnko94ia-1227185497327

This would be a great move for him if Mingolet can't get it together. His hand are not in question and his distribution would suit the EPL nicely

Cue liverpool hater comments. Honestly though, he has 1 shit game and he'll be thrown to the bench. EPL managers/supporters are as fickle as they come. Better to go to a league with a long-term view who actually value GK's with good feet.

BRAD JONES got 3-4 starts, Mignolet is still playing. he is 5x the keeper Jones is, makes less errors than mignolet and has much better distribution. Plus he is more the style of keeper we need than either of those two.

The Bowden backflip when Ryan is sitting on the bench at a worse club than Dortmund is going to be beautiful.

But maybe the Liverpool defenders will shit themselves when Ryan distributes the ball out to them instead of pumping the ball long like they're normally used to...

Has a bad game, gets benched for the rest of the season because clueless twatty manager/fans demand a veteran EPL keeper to take his place. Then we will have two keepers warming the pine in Europe. Or Australia's No.1 keeper maintaining progression at Belgium's top club and experiences a number of matches against the world's best in the Champions League. He's 22 for crying out loud. He has a long and distinguished career ahead of him. No need to send him to a league/club that place no value in long-term development. Edited by socceroo_06: 15/1/2015 05:32:21 PM

Doubt he will be a starter, even if I think Mignolet is crap. Ryan is 22 he won't be playing that much EPL football at that age. Better to keep playing in Belgium, progressing, UCL experience etc. Given his side is 66th in Uefa Coefficients they will occupy the third pot at best. Edited by jonomv: 15/1/2015 07:13:45 PM

Remember when mignolet was best on in his Liverpool debut? That didn't last long  Quote:"I'm not being too harsh on him. Not at all. He's worse than Dracula, because at least Dracula comes out of his coffin now and then. He seems to stay on his line and that's it. No security what so ever

Wont lie. Ryan has impressed me since his move to Belgian. Has deservedly become the Australian #1 custodian, and a move to a big club, should he get the #1 will be a good thing. Just add the extra 't' onto your name.

Just what we all expected - the buy-out clause in Mat(t)'s newly negotiated contract was one of the main motivators: http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2015/01/19/ryans-5-million-get-out-clauseQuote:As speculation mounts on Ryan's next move, his representative, former Danish international Mikkel Beck said the clause – believed to be in the region of $5 million – was crucial to Ryan agreeing to re-sign for the Belgium Pro League leader in November until June 2018.
...
"Let's put it this way: it's a price that the big clubs can pay. It took a long time for him to re-sign because we wanted the right contract, there had to be certain points and one of them was to have this clause in his contract – and we go what we wanted."

I'm not Mat's biggest fan, I think Mitch is more talented than him, but if Mat gets the Liverpool gig, then good on him.
Maybe Mitch should take the Club Brugge role?
