Fuck me dead we have some dipshit fans. First thing I do when we score is look for the offside flag, especially when Bulut is on the end of it.

Maybe stay onside more?

Not sure if Squires is as left-wing as sometimes suggested or is just (understandably) appeasing to the typical reader of The Guardian...

There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

I really enjoyed the Bulut one. This is a totally different style and is brilliant cutting satire. Bravo

There's enough things in football. Political attempts make me cringe tbh.

The way he's weaving political and social commentary in with football topics is good. Perhaps the text on the Christensen magazine is a bit too direct but the magazine itself was far more "cringey" than this and he makes a good point.

Why? The essence of humour is combining known facts/ideas/anecdotes in novel, unexpected ways (see, e.g.: http://socialpsychonline.com/2016/04/psychology-of-humor-funny-comedy). There's no reason why politics shouldn't be one source of input.

Further, I’d argue that Australians don’t engage as much with politics as they should. If Squires is making a small subset of football fans think more about it, that can only be a good thing (regardless of whether or not you agree with him).

Political correctness gone mad....to the point where feelings trump facts. Safe spaces and the subsequent death of free specch....i could go on gramps. Got a spare couple of days? This is hardly the place for it though.

Youre the only one making ridiculous claims pal.

Thanks for the response. I agree this isn't the place, so I'll make this my last comment.

You didn't define regressive so I'll do it for you: "regress = to return to a former or less developed state." Now let's look at a definition of conservatism: "any political philosophy that favours tradition in the face of external forces for chance, and is critical of proposals for radical social change." Notice any overlap?

You seem to imply safe spaces are crucial planks of a progressive platform. This isn't the case at all. I'm obviously left-wing, and I'm indifferent to them. They're a fringe issue at best.

Frankly, it's an oversimplification to assert that free speech is an absolute rule that means people can say whatever they want. Many here (possibly even you) would agree that Rebecca Wilson shouldn't have published the list of fans banned from A-league matches. It's a commonly-accepted view that freedom of speech doesn't permit defamation, and I'd suggest it needn't cover baseless abuse either. As mentioned above, I have no personal attachment to safe spaces. However if someone wants to set up a room that's explicitly free from abuse based on race, gender or sexual orientation that's their prerogative. It's hardly the society-wide death of free speech you're portraying it as.

On the other hand, many conservative politicians pose a genuine threat to freedom of speech. You only have to look at the LNP's repeated attempts to influence the ABC's editorial tone, or assorted Trump quotes (e.g. when he said burning the US flag should be punished by "loss of citizenship or year in jail!") to see this is the case.

Explain how setting a fire in public, using the flag of your forebears as fuel constitutes free speech?

Obliterated? Yeah. A genuinely ill informed and ridiculous answer laden with hypocrisy you mean. Hes in denial. Hes playing the lesser of two evils. Hes assuming my political leanings. Hes confusing breaking the law with free speech. Youre clearly too daft to extrapolate the obvious. As far as calling me the village idiot, i challenge you to a debate any day of the week on any topic. I will show you to be the narrow minded cretin you are. admittedly not a difficult task.

And Youre the one who makes "idiotic" claims on this site...like your intellectual gem that italians assimilate into australia better tham greeks or serbs, a patently idiotic and discriminatory thing to say......but im the village idiot.  ok davide, go back to sucking at music and working a dead end job.

Ps. Youre just pissed i made you take the grosso test, and that you failed it, hypocrite.

PPS. pepe the trump is right. Suck it up.

The increasingly ubiquitous David Squires has been interviewed by Brogan Renshaw who has made the ep available already from various feeds but who has not as yet got it in his ep list at http://www.behindthegame.com.au/blogs/podcast?page=1

If you can't figure out the XML feed and don't subscribe to Itoons I guess BR will have the ep up sooner or later. In the meantime there's other good stuff there too.
