City are actually doing better than I expected. It's poor but to be expected.

After last years bad PR about the Villa situation and a rather inconsistent season, many seem reluctant to want to renew this year.

Success, both in terms of results and a proactive style of play, will assist in achieving some growth but we will only see a star signing truly bring the interest. It must be executed far better next time though.

Didn't City say they wanted 14k members this season? They obviously won't reach it, but they certainly have the money to generate enough PR and get a good marquee.

I suppose like any business they don't want to spend more money when they know they won't get a return. Still, it'd be great to see them bring over two decent European stars as marquees.

A lot will come down to Brisbane and whether they have a huge late surge. Last weekend was promising and the way the club is playing could indicate that they may very well get a big increase in memberships in weeks to come which was incomprehensible weeks ago. A 3-4k increase is still possible for them.

My guess is that they wanted to NYC up and running properly first. Now that they already have designated players signed up over there, they will likely to focus their attention to Melb City this time around. There's a good chance Koren will be off by season's end if not sooner, and there's also a chance that Mooy will be off too. Mooy is providing exceptional value to the a-league at the moment and will be very hard to replace.

Would be good. City definitely have a lot of potential.

As a Victory fan, I want City to get bigger, purely so that the two can have the biggest sporting rivalry in Melbourne.

Really interesting stats nickk.. Can't believe how high the Adelaide and Perth reserved seat memberships are. I know they play out of smaller stadiums, but those stadiums are never full. The only time Coopers is full is when they play Victory.

Somewhere off in the distance my year 12 economics teacher is saying 'price elasticity of demand.' Good on Adelaide for knowing how to make their numbers sing. Cheapest rent, most expensive tickets, club reaks even. Works for me.

Looking at the list it's pretty obvious who gets to charge the big bucks. Shit stadium = cheap tickets. The exception is MV, but that's because bigger numbers give them to freedom to pitch low.

As expected big jump from Brisbane which is good to see, but they will certainly won't get anywhere near the figure they got last year. On the plus side, they get more game day ticket buyers.

Only the phoenix didn't increase by more than 100 memberships this past week, and considering the news yesterday I severely doubt they will sell anymore.

Either the Roar should be on 6,081 on this tally or they gave an incorrect figure the week before.

Would dearly love to know if we are pulling shenanigans with our member count. Wouldn't surprise me to hear we're counting memberships given as part of the NPL juniors program.

Anyway, part of the reason those costs are so high is because they are for new memberships. Renewals get a decent discount on that. Like $295 -> $225

That's because the a-league update sporadically. I use the figures that the club broadcasts, and the ffa slowly catch up.

Surely it's time that Melb City start doing some firing. Their aim was to reach 13k this season, looks like they will barely reach just over half that. Scott Munn surely has to go now. And JVS is proving to be just as inconsistent as last season. It's actually amazing how inconsistent they are.

They have all the potential in the world. This season is the best squad City-Heart has ever had.

Most of that is Mooy though.

Still waiting on Sydney, Perth and Brisbane to update but either way i think we're getting very close to our total for this season. 5 of the clubs recorded less than 100 members each this past week, and that figure is only going to slow down in the coming 2-3 weeks. I think we'll probably total off at around 103k - 104k. It will result in a total 9% drop from last season. All in all not a bad result when you consider all the turmoil. To think that only a few years ago our total didn't even reach the 100k mark and that was even during good news period, so we've definitely made ground.

Next season will be interesting. With some good news stories flowing in and perhaps a couple of marketable marquee players to boost the feel good news articles, we should see the membership figure closer up to the 120k mark. Assuming of course that we don't have unrest at more than one club (which is likely to happen to at least one club) and that we're still not dealing PFA issues nor Savethenix campaigns.

Waiting to see what happens but really can't see the likes of Piovacari, Holosko or Koren being resigned at their respective clubs, and now that there are 2 positions available for international marquees, I reckon we could see a real injection, at least from Melb City as they have LOTS of catching up to do.

Cool story bro!

The decision to reduce the stadium capacity to 31K, from the 40K+ that Melbourne management wanted, was from John Brumby's government

Quote:
The stadium was initially proposed to have a seating capacity of 20,000, upgradeable to 25,000. This was due to both expected demand, as well as a state government agreement with Docklands Stadium that no stadiums with a capacity greater than 30,000 would be constructed in Melbourne before 2010. These plans were revised after the Victory refused to commit to playing at a stadium of such small capacity, having achieved an average attendance of over 27,000 since their move to the Docklands Stadium in the 2006–07 A-League Season.

Alternative plans put forward by the Victorian Government proposed a capacity of 30,050, on the condition that the Victory sign on as a tenant. An agreement was reached and the stadium went ahead at this capacity.[20] To assist with the extended capacity, temporary stands can be erected behind the goals during soccer matches and removed during rugby league and union games so as to allow space for the in-goal area (an international soccer pitch measures 105 metres in length, while including the in-goal areas, rugby league and rugby union have a minimum field length of 112 and 120 metres respectively). Although the stadium was built with foundations to allow for future expansion to 50,000,[21] the roof was not designed with this in mind, and so the stadium cannot be expanded without major construction work.[22]

The Wikipedia information is misleading.
The stadium was delayed as the Brumby govt needed Melb to sign on as a tenant. Melb wanted a 40K+ capacity. The Brumby govt compromised with 31K from 20K. The chickens are coming home to roost.

3 of the 4 clubs playing out of AAMI are quite happy with the size of the ground. It's a problem for us but the right decision by the government IMO.

As for memberships, I believe they'll keep selling GA memberships throughout the season.
