Apparently if you don't play at every friggin delivery you can manage to keep your wicket.

Who would have thunk it.

I wonder if this strange new fad will last.

A few nice quick singles in this innings

we have seen off broads first spell

If broad and finn get past their second spells for no wickets there is a huge opportunity here

but that would take a lot of work

In the U19 Test between England and Australia in Durham, Australia are batting in the second innings. England will bat last.

Australia are leading by 306 runs and have 4 wickets in hand.

More needs to be made of the horrific decision to drop Marsh. Only two tests ago he took key wickets and scored some quick runs in a decent performance. He wasnt that good the last test but to drop him after one bad game is utterly ridiculous. How many failures did Watson need before he was dropped? But more importantly the guy is 23 and proven that he is up to this level with the second test performance. Needed to have time invested in him and at least see out the Ashes and the first test of the next series at least. Young players need time invested in them but it was so so typical of Australian selectors to treat a young player like that.

I don't think either Marsh should be in the team. Shaun is 32 and has never done enough at shield level to warrant the hype. Mitch has potential but has too many major technical flaws as a long form batsmen still. The bowling is a nice bonus, but a test number 6 needs to be someone who you can rely on. Michael Clarke was our number 6 in the great australia team, and that was still with Gilly at 7, and a much better top order. We only need an all rounder at the moment because our bowling line up is way too unbalanced.

I think Mitch Marsh can make it, but he needs to go back to shield cricket and pile on the runs for a summer. Joe Burns is a must as well as Usman, and I've always personally thought Callum Ferguson would really step up at test level.

Rogers would be there but he's not going to be able hang around for too long and he's almost certainly going to find thing more difficult.

I'd like to see Harris and Silk continue to make inroads in the Shield and to challenge for a top order spot. Handscomb is a solid middle order option. Khawaja is also an option. The issue there is he's coming off a long time off injured and has been a bit "flaky" in the past. He might make it, but I think he needs to have a really good Shield first.

I reckon Faulkner is better than Mitch Marsh. With bat and ball. But Mitch Marsh might get there.

Hazlewood is a potential superstar but he looks shot to pieces. He needs a break and he needs to go back to the Shield and work on some of the basics of line and length. Pat Cummins to make an appearance soon enough.

Would be silly to rush in Pattinson. Given his injury history I think it would be best to give him a full shield season.

Fair point. Siddle then. He should have been included for this match. I forgot to include him in the notes. Hazlewood looks to be frayed around the edges and needs a Shield season (like Pattinson). Cummins, same story as Pattinson. Siddle is tidy and consistent. Means Johnson can be used for short sharp bursts.

I've seen few of these batters, supposedly next in line, bat a bit in the Shield at Bellerive's Blundstone Arena.

Alex Doolan

This guy is an enigma. Undoubtedly, the most sylish batsman in the last 20 odd years in Australia. Looks like a better version of Mark Waugh. Think Greg Chapell. Plays superb stylish strokes al round the wicket when on song.

A very intelligent bloke, TCA cricket members claim at presentations he is really lacking confidence and self- belief.](*,) Made a lot of ruins when Ponring played Shield for his last season, who took him under his wing recognising his prodigious talent. Has a shocking habit of getting bogged down on strike, not being able to take quick singles if he is not piercing the field. In form looks brilliant, until he gets out.](*,)

Tassie cricket selectors made an enormous mistake appointing him captain because Geoorge Bailey was away with limited over national duties.. Wilted under the pressure.

Calum Ferguson

Looked like a Test batsman a few years ago. Another batsman who can look really good, then inexplicably get out, like Mark Waugh and Doolan. Like Doolan, very frustrating he hasn't kicked on.

Usman Kawaja

As we've all seen on TV looks a Test quality batter, but again must lack concentration. Maybe he was dropped prematurely? Another who has wasted his talent to date. Surely after the Ashes, and Pakistan debacles, deserves an extended run at 27 years of age?

Cameron Bancroft

Only 22, like Jordan Silk was dominant in his first season, it will be interesting to see how he performs in his second. At Bellerive this year, had a great combination of defensive and attacking strokes with good concentration. Was very difficult to get out, and didn't look like getting out till he did. We really need him to have good follow up seasons. Very , very impressive last season.

Ed Cowan

Tried at Test level, and looks like he is not quite there at his age. However, can play the moving ball well. Bellerive has been a green top at times in the last few years.

Joe Burns

I'm perplexed why this bloke was dropped? He is only 25. I can't remember him for Queensland, but I thought he did well in last year's Tests.

George Bailey.

Excellent limited overs cricketer, but even though he can annihilate Shield attacks at times, just wasn't good enough for Test cricket. Hardly played any Shield cricket last season because of his national limited over duties. Best captain in Australia by far. Tassie has really missed his leadership being away for so much limited over cricket.

James Faulkner

As an all rounder, tenacious competitor with the ball, but hasn't yet scored a Shield century. Mitch March has. I've seen Faulkner bat a lot, and doesn't look anywhere near Test quality as a better yet, even at his very best. Could be a better influence in the team than Watson.

Shane Watson

Sadly, he is hated by the Bellerive cricket members. Considered to be the most arrogant cricketer , spoilt brat, to play for Tasmania, apart from local Matthew Wade, who the cricket milieu were very keen to hand on to Victoria.

Members keep saying he has only scored 4-5 Test centuries in something like a decade as a Test player. They also point out he is a shocking runner between the wickets. Unlike Doolan, he can create a few singles, but supposedly runs out players a lot.

Chris Lynn

Looks like a reasonable shield player, but is a plodder who may have overachieved.

Maxwell

Doesn't have the concentration for Test cricket.

Jordan Silk

In his second season after an excellent first one, like many others, he was found out. Bowlers worked him out. Time is on his side at 22.

Nick Maddinson

I didn't realise he was only 23? Looks okay.

I'm losing total interest in 20/20 and one day cricket. I think the power hitting is great and the fielding is wonderful, but, bowlers have to bowl to boring defensive fields and batters get away with awful shots. This could be creating a generation of players unable to concentrate for extended periods.
