I'm at the 60 minute mark through the Krygystan game with stats. I was going to do the Bangladesh/ Krygystan simultaneously, but the second half of the Banga game was pretty dire to watch on the Socceroos part .

There are a few interesting observations so far. This is in light of Krygystan causing us so much trouble in the first game at home.

I've been bush for quite a few days with no internet, but I've heard Krygystan have done us a huge favour and beaten Jordan. Is this true?

Against Krygystan

Jedinak - A few of us us who criticised him being selected for not playing ( including me) . Since the game against Germany he has had his best game. Being experienced, not playing many minutes for Palace doesn't seem to have adversely effected him.

All those calling for Jedi's reinstatement have been correct in the Kryg game. Not having access to the whole pitch when viewing it on TV , he may hold his position very well. Even though at times his technique is poor, with slow footwork when receiving the ball, Jedi has broken up a lot of of Kryg attacks.

McGowan - Another surprise at RB. I was adamant Risdon was the better option. McGowan is having his best game for the Socceroos so far at RB where have has often been exposed before.

Cahill - Whereas many of us claimed he lacks mobility ( including me) in this game in a formation of 4-4-2, with variations of the bowl shaped midfield, or the 1:3 midfield ( I''ll go into more detail when the whole thread goes up), as a twin striker Cahill has roamed more and been more effective in build up play. Maybe Cahill could be around for some time yet.

Burns - Whereas he dominated the HAL, for the first time at international level, consistently, he has terrorised the Krygystan defence for the Socceroos, a bit like Kewell used to. He has dribbled around opponents on 7 occasions. In the past if any of our players beat players on 3 occasions for a whole game , it was rare. Burns needs to become more clinical around goal though.

Juric - Did little whilst on the pitch, despite starring in the Eredivisie.

Luongo - Way below what he was earlier in the year. He seems to have missed that coach he had last season.

Mooy has started slowly, but for those Mooy haters he is the simply the best attacking midfielder we have, and the most creative, despite playing for City in the HAL and the currently unpopular JVS. Mooy has come into the game since the 30 minute mark.

Milligan- Despite moving to the Gulf, he has played every well so far. His technique under pressure, like Mooy's, is outstanding. Like Jedinak has also done a lot a lot of roughing up the opposition .

Sains - A shadow of the Asian Cup player, despite immense talent.

Burns, Mooy and Milligan, Rogic (yet to come on) are rarely caught in possession if facing forwards. All have have quick handling speed. That is the amount of time taken to receive the ball and pass it on.

Wright - Doing a good job for the Socceroos and has benefited from his club football in England.

At the 60 minutes mark of the game, so many passes Mooy has made have been under pressure in terms of time and space. This is difficult to do.

for years everyone was banging on about how bad it is to play cahill as a lone striker. although he has developed a lot at playing with his back to goal, im still on board with this.

i was a bit frustrated about our lack of creativity up the front. again, we are just aimlessly lobbing balls into the box hoping timmy gets his big forehead onto them.

There was one goal in one of the last two games, that featured brilliant attacking interplay. Mooy was part of it. I can't remember who scored, but as I go through the two replays it will become more obvious. It might have been the third goal against Banga.

Sadly, there were not more passages of play like it, even if they were unsuccessful chances created.

The second goal Cahill scored against Kryg was also good.

Jedinak made an intercept, then made a dummy run forwards after passing to Mooy, who put a defence splitting pass on the deck to an unmarked Cahill on the right. Cahill converted a textbook goal with his right foot.

Ange deserves criticism. Injuries my ass. Ange needs to work out the back 4 properly cos so far ok. He has mixed that up a lot. If he picks 2 solid CB, he needs to go with the same ones consistently so Sainsbury and Wilko, or most likely Wright will be the pair.

Feel sorry for him in the LB/RB dept. With out Franjic (who I think isn't that good NT wise) his back 4 has changed considerably.
It doesn't help that his Elrich and Davo consistently do not play well. Jamieson and Risdon may just notch caps in the next NT games

So first you say Ange deserves criticism because he hasn't worked out the back 4 properly and injuries are an excuse, then you say you feel sorry for him in the LB/RB department. Which one is it? LB/RB makes up half of the back 4

wow

Both at the same time and not separate. Risdon got capped as well

Anyone know when the new Socceroos kits are expected to be released? Fairly sure it's this year some time.

The current kit was released on 17th Feb 2014: http://m.foxsports.com.au/football/socceroos/a-nod-to-the-past-as-socceroos-and-nike-unveil-retro-kit-for-the-2014-world-cup/story-e6frf4l3-1226829271300

They're on two-year cycles, so I'm guessing next month the new kit will be released.

Matty has always done well in central midfield. He has a great engine too.

It is just who to leave out?

It didn't help his cause when Holger played him as LB. Milligan came in and did well as DM under Holger.

This season Matty has upped his game and has been a revelation. Constantly MOM performances and probably the next best Oz player to Mooy this season.

Yep, McKay still has hit place in the side on merit, but he won't have a place at the next WC, so from where I sit, he serves as a squadie until he is replaced in the next 18 months.

That's going by the book, but what if he's still playing as good or even better?

Never expected his quality and consistency to be like this season so who knows for the next and the one after that.

He'll likely be phased out organically with the new younger CMs we have coming through anyway.

Irvine, Rogic, Luongo, Mooy, DDS, Antonis, Amini to name a few.

an irvine, rogic, luongo midfield triangle is already looking the goods.

add mooy for the diamond - that's what we're doing now right?

let me just fap for a minute at the potential line up this year.

williams-----------spiro-------------sainsbury-------------smith (PL)
-------------------------------jedi (PL)
luongo------------------------------------------------leckie (B1)
--------------------------rogic
----------kruse (B1) ------------------------cahill/juric

they all got minutes this week right? except cahill who is off season.
4 got minutes in top flight.

mooy
oar
irvine
milligan

all got minutes this week. this is probably the best week for the NT in a long time.

what do you think about bringing mcdonald and/or brosque back into the squad for a little bit. both have good form this year. can add something that isnt cahill. much more mobile than both juric and cahill.

i disagree. luongo out wide is shithouse when ange plays him as a wing up front. he's a box to box midfielder.

i would play him there. it's going to be narrow anyway because ange has the fb bombing foward - essentially wingbacks. which puts luongo right in the middle of the park with some space to roam - just like in the asian cup

it was a massive issue when we were playing with one forward. he's no target man. but now we play with 2 strikers. you have big targets like juric and cahill. huge. and then guys like mcdonald and eventually taggart can work around them causing havoc. poaching.

bringing him in gets the team used to it.

100% on the McDonald thing. We always played better football with him there. He is exactly what we need right now.

As for Luongo, I agree, except that recently, even with this 'narrow diamond', he still ends up out there and he's been pretty bloody poor for the Socceroos the last few matches.

On current form I'd be having Mooy and Rogic ahead of Luongo. No doubt Luongo is a starter when in form but his recent appearances for the Socceroos as EG mentioned, compounded by the fact he can't get a gig at QPR for some ridiculous reason, leads to Mooy and Rogic being the preferred options IMO.

I'd love nothing more than Williams to get through the rest of the season, notching up games on a regular basis. There is no doubting his talent, and it is absolutely heartbreaking that his career has been decimated by injuries to date. Fortunate thing is he is still 27 and can still make something of it.

Really hope Ryan and Luongo can rediscover their place in the starting line up of their respective teams. Too good of talents to be languishing on the bench. I'd also be looking at bringing Herd back into the setup, from all reports he has been playing well and is finally stringing some games together.

-----------------------------Ryan-----------------------------

Williams------Sainsbury----Spiranovic-----Smith

---------------------------Jedinak---------------------------

------------------Rogic------------Mooy----------------------

Leckie--------------------Juric----------------------Kruse

Seriously no to Mcdonald. I would rather mclaren if we're gonna do that.

But seriously Cahill and Juric all the way. Also ruka is scoring more frequently at a higher level than Mcdonald.
