And there goes Ryan - out of the squad due to a knock to the knee overnight. No Langerak to replace him, so Hugene is set to start in goals. Tomato sauce

Quote:Ange wants England in Perth
Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has urged organisers to secure a blockbuster international against England for the new Perth Stadium in 2018, saying he hoped Thursday’s World Cup qualifier gave WA fans a thirst for more top-flight action.
Football Federation Australia chief David Gallop has opened talks about the State’s $1.4 billion stadium hosting one of the world’s best teams in the countdown to the 2018 Russia World Cup, with a soccer Ashes clash looming as the ultimate ambition.
Postecoglou said Perth deserved to host more high-profile matches once the stadium opened as he eyed the immediate challenge against Bangladesh at nib Stadium next week in the Socceroos’ first match in WA in a decade.
Star striker Tim Cahill is the frontrunner to be named stand-in captain for Mile Jedinak, who will miss with a hamstring injury.
Jedinak, Robbie Kruse and Tomi Juric have been withdrawn from the 23-man squad for both of Australia’s World Cup qualifiers. An away game against Tajikistan on September 8 follows the Perth match.
Italian-based forward Chris Ikonomidis, striker Ben Halloran and Brisbane Roar midfielder Luke Brattan have been drafted in as replacements.
Postecoglou was given a tour of Perth Stadium during a visit to WA in April.
“It’s exciting,” he said of the Burswood venue. “Australia versus England 2018 sounds good to me. It would be an absolute blockbuster. I’d love to be involved in it.
“When I first got into coaching, playing against Perth Glory was the highlight of the football calendar. I’ve got no doubt there’s great passion in Western Australia.
“When we play this week with a packed stadium, I think that’ll give them a thirst for more.
“I’d love to see us get across there more often. They should be hosting more games.”
Postecoglou said he was excited about having emerging striker Massimo Luongo available for the first time since the triumphant Asian Cup final.
Postecoglou said having just five days combined with travel between two World Cup qualifiers would mean using most of his squad.
He nominated bolter Jackson Irvine among those with limited international experience who would be given game time.
The Socceroos will hold a fan day on Tuesday at nib Stadium from 3pm with an open training session. https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/29381301/ange-wants-england-in-perth/

Socceroos staying at Hyatt in Perth. I was just over there and walked past where a team meeting was taking place behind doors. A couple of the guys from my work ran into Ange and had a chat with him earlier in the week.

Soccer formations made easy with this11.com"/> My team. Burns to come on for Cahill, Mooy for Milligan, Halloran for Leckie. I've gone with Irvine at RB, as his club form is decent in that position and he will be more match fit than Elrich. if he does play there and play well that is a real positive for depth in that area. I am excited to see the ball playing of a combine Ora, Luongo and Rogic front third as they rotate through the no10 position, Leckie's speed in behind, Cahill to hold it up and aerial play. Milligan's runs from deep will also be very interesting. score 5 nil - anything less than a victory is unacceptable. most important thig in this game is for Leckie to score and no injuries.

I think we'll win comfortably but its not like they are THAT bad. They haven't been thrashed for a while. They only lost 3-1 to a kyrgyzstan side that pushed us pretty hard. Having said that we should still win comfortably, but these games usually end up being more like 3-0 rather than 8-0.

Can't imagine the projected lineup will change. You know Ange will pick McKay whenever a midfielder goes down with injury.

Don't see Oar getting a run considering he hasn't had a team all pre-season. Burns can play wide and playing regularly in J-League. Similarly don't see Wright getting in ahead of Wilkinson. Do we think Rogic will start of be brought on as a sub?

He brings energy then, and also gives another a chance to impress (McKay is a solid player but not going to set the house on fire).

Is Jack Irvine adept at RB? Isn't he a DM? I would reckon if you move a DM, it would be to CB. Not sure he or the McGowan type player should to be at RB or LB. The smaller faster guys as fullbacks would be more the proto-type generally. Having said that, Germany like playing four CB @ the back. Even the great Ange won't be game enough to start Rogic this time too. Would be interesting.8-[

Anyone have good knowledge on how Rhys Williams, Curtis Good, Chris Herd and Luke DeVere:idea: are going as far as being back from long term injuries? Have they all gone back to the farm?

Edited by soccerfoo: 3/9/2015 03:11:46 PM I'm sure he played a lot of games at RB while on loan to his current club last season. Yes he is a DM for the young Socceroos, however RB and DM are so interchangeable, similar skill sets ability to Defend, ability to get forward A classy DM should have a better passing game . possibly more fitness required as a wing back. and a good cross.

I asked my Bangla Deshi mate at work for his thoughts on the match. He didn't believe me when I told him we are in the Asian confederation.

Bangladesh will defend deep, and compactly, known as partial pressing. Leckie is ineffectual as a winger against this sort of defence. His technique is inadequate in ball carrying and 1v1 evasion skills in tight spaces. He is more effective when teams play a high line, full press, and have a go at Australia. Burns is a far better technician than Leckie. Leckie could be effective as a central striker, injecting more energy than Cahill, albeit with a lot less goal craft. Unfortunately, Leckie has scored no goals for the Socceroos for years after playing so many minutes. Oar and Burns on the wings, Leckie possibly being replaced by Cahill as a central striker in the second half. Rogic will be just the sort of player to unlock these sorts of defences. Asian teams have had massive problems with him, far more than HAL teams who know about him and play a number of players on him.
