Quote:Brisbane clubs learn FFA Cup fate January 21, 2016 by queenslandsoccernews Rafe Griffin (@rafegriffin) The draw for the opening round of the 2016 FFA Cup in the Brisbane zone was made by Football Brisbane on Wednesday night. Forty-two teams comprising all Capital Two, Three and Four clubs as well as the five lowest ranked clubs from 2015’s Capital One will compete in the opening round. Among the key fixtures in the draw, Capital One Grange Thistle will host returning club Caboolture. Many have suggested that based on the Snakes’ results in the Sunshine Coast Premier League, that they should have been placed in a higher league than Capital Four. This match will provide a good gauge of their true level of play. A preview will take place this weekend with both clubs scheduled to face each other in the Gorilla Sports Challenge. New Football Brisbane club Logan Metro face a stern test against Centenary Stormers who have been promoted in successive years and have put in impressive Cup runs in the two years of the competition. Virginia who upset the BPL’s Capalaba last year will host new club St George Willawong/ The full draw is: Logan City Kings vs Acacia Ridge Ipswich City vs Tarragindi Western Spirit vs Souths Greenbank vs The Gap Ridge Hills vs Brisbane Force Virginia Utd vs St George Willawong Toowong vs Newmarket Kangaroo Point Rovers vs Narangba Bardon Latrobe vs Jimboomba Grange Thistle vs Caboolture Springfield United vs Park Ridge Bethania vs Mooroondu Deception Bay vs Logan Village Westside vs Annerley Samford vs New Farm Brighton vs Redcliffe PCYC Pine Hills vs Clairvaux North Brisbane vs Bayside Oxley vs AC Carina Logan Metro vs Centenary Stormers Southside Eagles vs Slacks Creek Times, dates and venues will be confirmed at a later date but matches are scheduled to take place on the weekend 12-14 February. The twenty-one winners will be joined by the seven remaining Capital One clubs and the twelve Brisbane Premier League clubs in the following round. http://queenslandsoccernews.com/2016/01/21/brisbane-clubs-learn-ffa-cup-fate/

Teams I want to see make it this year to the round of 32 and why. Broke Queensland down into it's zones. Queensland (North): Gotta be the Fury. There time to come back to the national stage  Queensland (City): Brisbane City is the only traditional QLD club that still hasn't made it to the round of 32 yet. They have a great stadium as well. Brisbane Olympic also deserve another chance to host after being conned by the FFA into moving to ANZ Stadium (Griffith) Queensland (SEQ Regional): I'm sick of Palm beach and that empty stadium. Noosa Lions or SEQ Thunder thanks. Toowomba would certainly turn up for a big game. Northern NSW: Adamstown Rosebuds is one of the oldest clubs in Australia and is an ex-NSL participant. A Non-Newcastle club would be great, especially from around Coffs Harbour or Port Macquarie, couldn't name any though. NSW: APIA Leichardt and Marconi could both use a bit of a lift right now and would provide interesting ties for any A-League club. Wollongong Wolves to push their A-League case and St George FC for a glorious return to the national stage with a proper Johnny Warren tribute. Also Sydney United purely for the #scenes. [-o< ACT: Bring back the TugsVIC: South Melbourne and Knights obviously. One of them will have to play us eventually and it will be a riot but what I really want to see is Preston Lions make a massive run in. They've got a great ground, a big history in Victoria and could use some help getting into the NPLV. Would also like to see a regional team like Ballarat Red Devils get a run. TAS: Gotta be South Hobart. They're really making a name for themselves each year. SA: West Adelaide. City has had there run, now It's time for Adelaide's other big Club. NT: 🍀🍀🍀 ALICE SPRINGS CELTIC🍀🍀🍀 WA: Who cares. No one wants to draw them and always the most boring games tbh.

agreed with everything, MT. However a bit harsh on Palm Beach. It isn't their fault. Keen to see familiar names.

The increase in club participation is in. NNSW has 3 more clubs participating than last year. Brisbane jump from 61 to 67. Victoria, who's applications don't close till the 8th of Febuary, have seen an increase from 191 to 193. Let's just hope for no forfeits this time.

It's awesome exposure for them if they can break into R32. Hopefully other clubs will jump on board in the coming years.

I believe the name Palm Beach will still be used for any teams they have in the local Gold Coast comps. Edited by aussieshorter: 22/1/2016 10:54:16 AM

Overall there is an increase, but in each of the three years of the FFA Cup there are large fluctuations from some zones. I'd love to see more incentive for these clubs to participate, particularly because the first few rounds are all played within their local areas anyway. It'd be quite easy as well for a zone to piggy back off the FFA Cup and use it as their own cup of sorts. E.g. The winner of the Northern Inland zone ends up playing the winner of the Mid North Coast zone. Each of those zones could make it mandatory for all clubs to enter a team, and make it a big deal to be the Zone Representative at the next stage of the FFA Cup. I suspect for the regional teams the cost to participate plays a bigger part as well, although I'm sure it's not much.

A-League sides to enter they're states in the last 64 pls [-o<
Would love seeing some of these old clubs play "derbies" against A-League opposition before the round of 32. This would start the cup off with a bang if the ties were Marconi were hosting the Wanderers, Knights play Melb City and Adel City host United.

It would have to be national. Unfair taking the cups away from the states tbh.

Some of the biggest games of the cup will be local derbies (e.g. Victory vs South Melbourne), and you don't want to manufacture them to be in the Round of 64. I'd also be open to the Round of 64 becoming the first national round, but the A-League clubs only enter at the last 32. This gives more grassroot clubs the chance for an interstate trip.
