It's no easy task. How the hell can you predict this kind of thing?

Well it's interesting that acts of terrorism are more common in some areas compared to others. Acts of terrorism are increasing in Western Europe. It's hard to predict specific attacks but predicting their frequency and style is becoming easier.

Very true. The terrorists are already dead. Just as they wanted. Nothing will change. Just a bunch of pollies getting photo ops and riding the latest #hashtag bandwagon.

Whilst hundreds of people are dead, the politicians popularity rises. When instead it should fall for not protecting the nation. Same thing happened after 9/11 with George bush.

It's hard for one guy to protect a whole nation, the policies which have fostered these rise in terror acts have been around for decades. France has welcomed millions of Muslims for years, and this is how they are rewarded.

Exactly. They might wanna start doing something about that I reckon.

Our pollies might wanna try and learn some lessons too.

OK, so 23 pages already, the french President has confirmed it is an attack by Islamic State. I'm tired of everyone (not this thread, over time) trying to give the majority of Muslims the benefit of the doubt, like oh its only the radical Muslims, its not, this is no religion of peace, its a religion that preaches conformist fundamentals, live their way or die.

I think the lesson is to restrict the flow of Muslim immigrants, to a level that can be managed and controlled by security agencies. That might mean letting none in, until the scourge of extremism is well and truly defeated. It's obviously wrong to discriminate based on religion but it's more wrong to risk the safety of the community by inviting in terrorists.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Adler shotgun supporter's response when someone inevitably asks the question about the use of a similar style weapon in these attacks.

Except they used Kalaks, sick bait tho m80.

Wow took you a while to see that.

Early reports said that some of the terrorists had pump action shotguns.

I guess we'll find out in a few days.

Good thing pump actions are the same as lever actions :)

Personally I'm also worried about unhinged Philippinos that seem to harbour irrational hatreds. There's quite a few islamic nutjobs over there too. I'm hoping they haven't managed to sneak in via a lax immigration and security policy.

I would say that a governments' first and foremost priority is the safety of its citizens. Whether or not people in a another country are offended by their actions comes way down the list, well after the safety of their constituents has been secured. I would certainly hope the Australian government would place our safety above offending foreigners.

how can you ban islam ,its neither possible or practical.
there are close to 400,000 muslims in australia among whom there would be a small minority that would be troublesome.

I'm betting all 12000 of the Syrian refugees we take in will be Muslim, just to prove how not racist we are

Just the idea of selecting them by faith had people crying racism. Well the fact is there has to be some criteria because we can't take all 2 million of them, religion is a very reasonable criteria.

Maybe we should reevaluate where our annual quota of refugees are coming from.

I'd like the percentage of South Sudanese to increase and people from Afghanistan and Iraq to decrease for example. Bonus would be the Sudanese are better athletes

But of course that would be "racist"

Unclear what is happening but there are reports there is more shooting and explosions in the Paris suburb of Bagnolet.

Police chasing 3 terrorists is one explanation.

I think the Abbott loyalists would find a way to pinpoint the blame on Turnbull should the above scenario described happened. Not that I would want to see Abbott be PM again.

Whether or not people in a another country are offended by their actions comes way down the list, well after the safety of their constituents has been secured. I would certainly hope the Australian government would place our safety above offending foreigners.

Turnbull i think will be hoping that among those syrian refugees taken in wont be ISIS militants because if they carried a paris style attack here , Abbott might stage a coup and end up beinf PM again

I would say that a governments' first and foremost priority is the safety of its citizens.
