The U.S. Government Supplied ISIS’ Iconic Pickup Trucks
Posted on October 12, 2015 by WashingtonsBlog
U.S. counter-terror officials have launched an investigation into how ISIS got so many of those identical Toyota pickup trucks which they use in their convoys.

They don’t have to look very far …

The Spectator reported last year:

The [Toyota] Hilux [pics] is light, fast, manoeuvrable and all but indestructible (‘bomb-proof’ might not, in this instance, be a happy usage). The weapons experts Jane’s claimed for the Hilux a similar significance to the longbows of Agincourt or the Huey choppers of Nam. A US Army Ranger said the Toyota sure ‘kicks the hell out of a Humvee’ (referring to the clumsy and over-sized High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle made by AM General).

***

The fact is the Toyotas were supplied by the US government to the Al Nusra Front as ‘non-lethal aid’ then ‘acquired’ by ISIS.

Al Nusra Front is literally Al Qaeda.

Public Radio International – an American public radio outlet – also documented a specific shipment of Toyotas by the U.S. State Department in 2014:

Recently, when the US State Department resumed sending non-lethal aid to Syrian rebels, the delivery list included 43 Toyota trucks.

Hiluxes were on the Free Syrian Army’s wish list. Oubai Shahbander, a Washington-based advisor to the Syrian National Coalition, is a fan of the truck.

“Specific equipment like the Toyota Hiluxes are what we refer to as force enablers for the moderate opposition forces on the ground,” he adds. Shahbander says the US-supplied pickups will be delivering troops and supplies into battle. Some of the fleet will even become battlefield weapons.

That’s exactly what happened …

The Syrian conflict started the day Assad signed a deal to construct a pipeline to bring Iranian gas through Iraq and Syria then into Europe.
US and its gulf allies did not want competition as Qatar wanted to bring Qatari gas into the lucrative European market to compete with the Russians. The Russians have been late to the game as they didnt need competition either however they also dont want their ally Syria overtaken by Islamic State.

EU might not exist next year...it really is 50/50, and most people don't understand this

there so much bad stuff, just waiting to come up out of Germany , they will not be able to control it

Let alone the clusterfuck of Sweeden france etc. Civil war genuinely seems inevitable whether its 10 20 or 30 years

What are you guys smoking?

The EU will exist well into the future. The Euro may not survive with all current member countries using it, but I think it will. Civil war seems inevitable???? Based on what?

Remember the EU has a population of 500 million. They can, and will, absorb the refugees over time. These issues flare up from time to time, but the cycle inevitably turns.

Time for people to take a breath and look at things with some perspective.

Don't think it's too far fetched if you look at the gaining popularity of anti immigration parties across europe. Wait for a few more Paris like terrorist attacks and see if you feel the same way.

I don't think it'll be a fully fledged civil war. More likely large deportations and skirmishes between European muslims who sympathise with them and the gov.

But European muslims make up a tiny minority of the population. And of that minority, even a tinier minority are violent.

We are going through a testing time, but the situation is not going to worsen. The infrastructure to manage the process is improving, govt capacity to manage the situation is improving.

Again, the EU has 500 million people, and much less than 2 million people have come as refugees over the last few years. Obviously that is a lot of people to manage in a short time, but overall it is 0.004% of the overall population.

Again, take a broader perspective.
Might want to check your maths but its 0.4%. And from 2013-2015 I've seen projections above 2 mil and increasing every year. 400k in 2013, 600k in 2014 and 1.3 mil in 2015 so expect that 0.4% to increase.

Across the EU its about 4% which to put in perspective is about the same for Chinese people in Australia. Are chinese people a tiny minority here? Well perhaps if you live in Hobart or Townsville it is but in Melbourne its about 7% and Sydney its about 9% and I doubt anyone in these cities would say thats a tiny percentage.

In the EU it might by tiny in the former eastern block where the population is less than 1%, but in large Western European cities its very high. Stockholm, 20%, Paris 10-15%, Marseille 33%, Manchester 16%, London 12.4%, Brussels 15-25%, Barcelona 17%, Amsterdam 15-25%. If conflict began it would begin here.

No, they aren't violent now and most never will be but again it's not a tiny percentage that are extremist and there are countless polls that have shown this.

Perhaps you're taking too broad of a perspective and ignoring the finer details.

Any country with a sizeable muslim minority is doomed to civil war. Thailand, Philippines, Lebanon, Yugoslavia, Nigeria, Burma, India, Sri Lanka...

Here's some very brief background/timeline...

announced August 2009 and rejected some time ~2010 by Assad government
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar-Turkey_pipeline

announced December 2010 (Israel offshore gas field)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leviathan_gas_field

announced July 2011
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran-Iraq-Syria_pipeline

March to July 2011
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_uprising_phase_of_the_Syrian_Civil_War

Its all related, including the Iran sanctions, and subsequent deal. This is high stakes, hundreds of billions of dollars hence the high human cost.

Anyone who still thinks this is a sectarian conflict is an idiot and cant be helped. The model the US and its western and gulf allies used to topple Gaddafi was employed in Syria, but being a much larger country with stronger military and Russian support has proven a harder nut to crack. If however you support the plight of the Syrian 'rebels' then you're effectively supporting the same outcome as has occurred in Libya. A failed (Islamic) State which previously had the best standard of living in continent of Africa.

You'll also note the majority of the early violence occurred along energy transportation routes (oil and gas pipelines and hubs. eg Homs.

Europe needs the gas. The USA and its allies are trying to break the Russian monopoly.
Dont you understand this?

They're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they're trying to profit from a massive opportunity.

Yeah gas is so cheap is why Ukraine has a massive debt to Russia for unpaid gas bills

Gas distribution also played a major role in the war in Ukraine.

Gas supply is plentiful, but demand is also huge. There's hundreds of billions to be made and Russia is getting most of it from Europe.

This is why the US and its allies want to knock out competitors, which includes other energy sources such as coal, nuclear power and of course foreign enemies such as Iran and Russia.

no one needs the fucking gas any more...it why oil and gas prices is now nothing ...Qatar is being replace by Australia and soon USA as top exporters ...why the fuck would USA and Australia want to help Qatar reach Europe customers, they will all be fighting for those customers soon

Fuck, USA been sending some gas to Europe for free, they looking at finding some customers

Edited by adrtho: 23/2/2016 10:23:05 PM

Europe needs the gas. The USA and its allies are trying to break the Russian monopoly.
Dont you understand this?

They're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they're trying to profit from a massive opportunity.

Yeah gas is so cheap is why Ukraine has a massive debt to Russia for unpaid gas bills

Gas distribution also played a major role in the war in Ukraine.

Gas supply is plentiful, but demand is also huge. There's hundreds of billions to be made and Russia is getting most of it from Europe.

This is why the US and its allies want to knock out competitors, which includes other energy sources such as coal, nuclear power and of course foreign enemies such as Iran and Russia.

that not what Ukraine says, they say Russia just making things up as they go, and Ukraine owe no money to Russia on Gas

why wouldn't you want to break Russian monopoly, Russia run by a fucking dictator

Lithuania was paying 3 time as much for Russia gas as was Western European , Russia would say to Lithuania, we going to turn the gas off, if you don't do what we say.... Lithuania builds LNG terminal, and now says fuck off to Russian gas (by the way, Russia did bad things to keep Lithuania from building LNG terminal)

so fuck off you commie bastard

They've been bombing Syrian infrastructure and using ISIS as an excuse. If they were bombing ISIS they'd be defeating ISIS. Only the Russians have turned the war in favour of Syria since their intervention.

You'll have to ask Obama why that deal was made as most in congress were against it. This deal was done several years after the Syrian war broke out, so the Syrian war was likely used as leverage to get it done.

SYRIA: UK Foreign Secretary says he has seen 'disturbing' evidence of cooperation between YPG/SDF & Syrian government/RuAF

#Turkey’s going to blow a gasket…Seems U.S. has provided Javelin ATGMs to the YPG in #Syria.
The US would not give Javelin Ukraine

Quote:
Britain said on Tuesday it had seen disturbing evidence that Syrian Kurds were coordinating with the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad and the Russian air force.

"What we have seen over the last weeks is very disturbing evidence of coordination between Syrian Kurdish forces, the Syrian regime and the Russian air force which are making us distinctly uneasy about the Kurds' role in all of this," Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond told the British Parliament.

now it start to come out

Quote:
One senior administration official said the CIA has found that the Kurds directly coordinated with Russian forces recently during an attack on the headquarters of the CIA-backed Syrian opposition in the town of Marea. The official said the U.S. intelligence is that Kurdish troops laid down tracer fire on the building just before Russian bombers destroyed it. Another U.S. official disputed this account.
