Yep, saw it. It was very a very good interview. The panel showed him great respect! The answer about his dad being his inspiration was genuine and touching, and had the panel a bit teary!

ACL next year. That’s the next step for Ange. Conquering Asia leads to the Club World Cup.

Ange has always talked about not just showing up to a world cup, but building a team and mentality strong enough to win it.

I would be surprised if he left Yokohama with such unfinished business. The only job that would take him away from that is Manchester City surely. City Football Group give him the security and faith that he needs to fulfil his plans. Otherwise it’s not worth it.

Some people seem to have missed the point that you can respect someone and their methodologies, but still disagree with them.

I reckon Ange's style is suited to club football rather than NT football. At club level, over a long season, he can buy in players to suit from anywhere, and he can train every day with them. At NT level, the players and type of players he can get is limited, and he has limited time to work with them. Also, the type of games played at club and NT level differ, with more 'long tournament/league type' matches at club and more 'knockout tournament/cup type' matches with national teams. This obviously affects how different opposition teams will play against you.

I don't think you can just translate Ange's style straight from club to NT level and get the same success.

I also think his "attacking style" is over hyped. I believe his style is more "control based". Yes he likes teams to attack and score goals, but first and foremost, his teams seek to control possession. I know he always goes on about playing forward and pressing and attacking, but when you watched the NT team play under him, we very rarely played forward and broke at speed on a counter attack. We were mostly concerned with first getting the ball under control, with maybe a couple of backwards and/or lateral passes first before we started to play forward. He set his team up with players in advanced areas, but there was more emphasis on controlling the ball and the play rather than just 'attacking'.

We very rarely counter attacked at speed and I can hardly recall at all any times when we went from coast to coast at speed to score at the other end.(ie. defending a corner, or free kick and breaking).

Having said all this, of course I was impressed with the 2015 Asian Cup and the way he sent the NT team out in that tournament, but then after that, I think he became a bit too set in his ways and didn't make the adjustments necessary to take the NT to an even higher level again.

Well done Ange, to take a team that was on the brink of relegation, to win the league is a great achievement.

Sure. But results speak for themselves, no?

They were near relegation last season but now they're champions. This was their first championship in 15 years.

I don't think his first season should tarnish Ange's reputation. He's clearly a skilled club manager.

Most clubs around the world will give the manager a pass for the 1st season. You didnt see Emery or Silva get sacked from their respective epl clubs straight away. They got the flick after it became clear they werent advancing their clubs.

His age and being an Aussie will go against him moving to Europe.......in effectively a start up role ... I think he will stay for one maybe two more seasons win the ACL.. then move to the MC groups MLS team... by then MLS will have 30 teams and be close to the WC .... just a feeling I get...

Europe is a bit of a treadmill, thousands of coaches, thousand of clubs & all of them disposable without a second thought as the patience that is displayed elsewhere isn't display there.  Ruthless place, would they stick with Ange's philosophy ?

I mean Arsene was successful in the Jleague just before he took the arsenal job lol

New York is a big city and many people wanta go there... especially as NYFC are looking at building there own stadium and are looking at taking over a factory site just down from Yankee stadium where they play now.

WE tend ti largely ignore the MLS, more over give it heaps of stick, but it is in a real growth phase they expect to name team 30 this week, and many are predicting it will growth to 34 by WC time...  no one thinks they will stop at 30...

Whats interesting about Football in the US is the number of leagues watched, the MLS comes in third behind, Mexico, & the EPL for ratings, but if you add the top 10 leagues they show and add their combined ratings its bigger than many of there other sports...

I'm of course pleased for Postecoglou's success in Japan, but for the sake of history, in the face of revisionism of what happened, it helps to be plain with the facts.

If Ange had played a certain style of football in the A-League, and continued with that with the Socceroos -- and was said to have been rejected -- and then played that exact same style of football in the J-League, then, yes, it could be said that Ange has been vindicated.

But it's not true because in the last few months of his tenure as Socceroos coach, the biggest criticism I recall made against him was his arrogance at refusing to listen to criticism against his Chelsea-like three-at-the-back formation. I'm not aware if he played this three-at-the-back during his time with Brisbane Roar (???). There was no three-at-the-back for most of his time with Yokohama, from what I hear.

Another way of putting it -- which does not seem politically correct, given that everyone is queuing up to praise Ange after his J-League victory -- is to say that Ange's pride rose to the heights during the last months of his time with the Socceroos. In between the Socceroos and the J-League, Ange learned his lesson, and that Yokohama F. Marinos benefitted from the new and better Ange.

I see it as hopefully the growth and maturity of the man, rather than him being "vindicated".
