So epl massively outrating HAL on SBS.Can Eurosnobs really outnumber HAL supporters 2 or 3-1?.My conclusion is HAL supporters like HD and don't like SBS commentary.SBS treats HAL with contempt and HAL fans treat them with contempt.

Could not agree more.... just compare BashEar with the EPL callers for starters...

In other codes the Fox ratio to FTA TV is 3.5 to 4.5..... SBS runs at about 0.70 ...

Consider 3.5 compared to on average about 0.70 ... that is a huge difference ...

And yet SBS continue with the same boring commentary team. What a JOKE!!!!!!!!

Your insight shows why the other FTA networks are seriously looking at the new deal for 2017 - 2018 onwards.

But nah some here still think hd or the commentary team or cross promotion that increase interest does nothing.
This just outlines once again why being on a big fta ch that has coin to spend on production and the lead up cross promotion can be so vital. No one is watching sbs 2 and anyone that has fox choose to watch on there because the production is 10x better.

commentary is so important because they provide the atmosphere for those who can't attend live or watch with mates

amazing how poor sbs has been at this!

We must be the only sport Australia where the pay tv channel out rates the fta tv channel 9 out of 10 times. But that kind of fox rating is very encouraging, last year that game was well under 100k, so hopefully we get a real uplift in ratings this year. Makes me think that the Sydney derby tonight, might have the best ratings for a regular season game ever. Hopefully.

fox commentators get maligned on this forum but they are very good in terms of entertainment and atmosphere

credit to fox for turning the a league into a mainstream product!

Wellington v City 80k.
Wanderers v Sydney 142k
Perth v Mariners 60k.

After 4 games the average rating is up 66% on the same stage last season.  After a 4 zip hammering I had to find something good out of the day.  ;)

The 80k for the wellington game is a good number,  that has always been a week rating the 5pm kick off.  Also the perth game was a decent number too for a 10pm kick off and the teams playing. I was hoping the derby was closer to 200k , but as long as crowds, tv & members continue to grow that's all we can ask for.

The Score line would have hurt the ratings for this game.

Game was over with 20 to go tbh, all the casuals on the couch would have switched off.

Thats the potential that this game has. Another qualification for the WC would do nicely.

I know people are going to crucify me for this, and I sound like a bit of a hypocrite, but I think this is an interesting article about finals TV ratings?

http://theconversation.com/afl-and-nrl-grand-final-tv-ratings-show-codes-still-rely-on-their-traditional-heartlands-66485

That's a very useful link. The comments are also enlightening:

[quote]Rugby has been mentioned, but the elephant in the room is football where according to Telstra:‘An estimated 700 million viewers worldwide tuned in on Saturday night to witness a historical win for the Socceroos at ANZ Stadium…. High definition live-to-air feeds soared through to national and international broadcast networks such as Fox Sports, Fox International Channels, ABC, CCTV in China, Sony SIX in India and Eurosport so viewers from across the world could watch the tournament live.’One is surprised that such a significant international footprint was and is not taken more seriously. When speaking with an NRL person with marketing knowledge (in addition to AFL), he was simply unable to compute the above, like a mental blockage i.e. never considered. It may also signal to the AFL and NRL commissioners and marketing people that they would not want to be too parochial aka football, but maybe cooperate….. most A-League supporters also have AFL/NRL teams, while football players grew up with AFL/NRL; there is a big wide world and audience out there….

Evidence is found just in the number of quality international football podcasts including The Guardian UK, BBC World Football etc. (themselves with significant audiences globally with speakers of EFL English as a Foreign Language) often mention the A-League, MLS etc., Africa and Asia especially.

Just consider the average Fox ratio to FTA broadcaster is between 3.5 and 4.5 times.
Fox rated  129 k on Friday night. Consider with cross promotion, playing Saturday night i.e. less competition.
129 @ 2 times is 258 k
129 @ 2.5 times is 322k
129 @ 3 times is  387k
129 @ 3.5 times is  452k
129 @ 4 times is 516 k
129 @ 4.5 times is  581k

ABC winning the day, good for them.

Nine News is usually the highest rating show, especially on Friday and Saturday, and I've long speculated on how much of a boost the A-League would get with a Friday and or Saturday game following their news, especially the sports news, and with all the cross promotion they do, even if it's on Gem it would create exposure to and acceptance of the league like never before.

Without sounding like an excuse finder, 12-13 was the last year of the exclusive foxtel year.

It was also the first year of ADP, Hesky and ONO (as well as the WSW)

And the following years have been with SBS as a joint partner.

So this is the best first round for Foxtel, even though they are sharing with SBS.

Australia in recent test cricket against Sri Lanka got 60k and that was all in good times for watching.
