Great rating for the main game, the other 2 were to be expected fairly low, but as long as the 2 main games Friday and Saturday night keep getting around the 100k mark, it shows the fta tv networks there is value in going after Friday sat night A league.

And people here think that more regional/small clubs are the way forward.. big city clubs are the ones that are rating week in week out. Bring on third sydney/melbourne or second brisbane any day of the week. If exception has to be made, make it tasmania that will represent the whole state and who have a very solid bid. Oh and lets get serious, wellington has to go. shame they just resigned a 4 year extension. will just squat on the licence until the inevitable #savethenix campaign during their last few home games.

+xChristmas parties go all year long in New Zealand. Hahaha yeah apparently. I know u have been wanting them gone for a while now, and although in the beginning i didnt mind them being in the league i am now strongly in favour of ousting them, especially when u consider how many good alternatives there are waiting in the wings. The one thing that phoenix did well was when merrick was there, he blooded a lot of young aussies from the npl. Now that hes gone they are absolutely useless. The tv network clearly doesnt see any value and tbh neither do the supporters really. They have a core of 4k-5k rusted supporters but that just simply isnt enough im sorry.

Look, people get me wrong and think I want NZ football to fail. Ridiculous. I want nz to have their premiership and league to be focused on. Not one half passed team in the AL. As for us, we have so many options locally. Its absolutely ridiculous to think we need to rely on another country to fill our void. Look at the expansion options we have. For goodness sake promotion relegation got a good talking up too as well as a second division. All of the above options are weighed down by teams forced to travel internationally, with very little compensation, across the ditch. They don't put in the crowds or TV revenue. As for your comment regarding regional clubs I can see your point but I disagree. Gold Coast failed because they were incompetent from top to bottom management wise. However they did produce some top players and showed that GC can embrace football if the options are right Townsville failed because of ownership issues from the start and only had bad crowds when the weather was atrocious. They otherwise werent too bad. We shouldn't be playing football in the summer anyway. Regional clubs are the heartbeat. If travel to NZ wasn't a factor, 5k would be easily sustainable. Big clubs do help by bringing in those numbers so it is a bit of a catch 22 but they shouldn't be written off due to their small population IMO.

So the 2 biggest supported A-league clubs in the two biggest cities can barely crack 100k and somehow thats a great rating? Despite what you think, It actually shows to the FTA networks that the two biggest markets arent that interested in the A-league.

+xGreat ratings this week!Does anyone know what the women's big bash league pulled? `CRICKET Australia chief James Sutherland says the women’s game is on the way to becoming a mainstream sport in Australia after the Women’s Big Bash League exceeded TV ratings expectations.Saturday night’s primetime clash on Channel 10, where Melbourne Stars held off a fast finishing Sydney Thunder, attracted a peak national audience of 637,000, with an average of 386,000.The Melbourne Renegades- Adelaide Strikers match on Saturday afternoon was the most watched program in its timeslot across the capital cities.` A big boost on last seasons, but on the main channel, all the games last year were secondary? Also remains to be seen how well it holds up over the season, as they are broadcasting more games.

The interesting thing is that the WBBL doesn't earn Cricket Australia any additional broadcast revenue, and it's getting ratings like that.

Should we be concern about 1 off games?
In 2014 Real Madrid v Man City in a friendly got the biggest MCG crowd of the year, bigger then the AFL Grand Final. A friendly beating the GF, (the AFL world cup final) in AFL loving Melbourne. In 2015 Chelsea v Sydney in another friendly had a bigger attendance then the State of Origin & twice as big as any AFL game in Sydney.
I was sick!!!!

Hmmmm, maybe this Real Madrid and this man city of which you speak should move to Melbourne...then we'll easily have the women's big bash covered!
Starting to feel a bit better, thanks 🙏

It was in Melbourne, it didn't only have the big bash covered, it covered the AFL GF. Biggest crowds, more merchandise sold for this tiny sport in the AFL capital then the GF.
But it was a one off, I was really sick.

Well I hope you get better soon
I feel much better through just fantasising that these weren't just one offs and actually reflected ongoing interest in the game...
...anyway, gotta go, Man U is playing Liverpool in the Hal at the mcg in my head (it's been rectangularised by the way 😉)...

Hmmm that's interesting, the womens big biash has seen an increase of 65%+ in ratings compared to last year. Difference this year is that instead of being on One it's now on the prime channel. So here's a classic example of the power of the primary channel on a big fta playing a big part in the push in ratings compared to the secondary channel. The schedule was the same too. Just incase some people (we know of at least one ;-) ) who thinks a switch in channel would make no change at all for sport.
