+xLast year some round on the Friday night SBS 39... Fox 40 .. I still wonder aloud how Fox can beat a FTA station.... SBS need to do some real soul searching as to what they are doing wrong. Expecting a decent ratings for the derby tonight .. BTW on the other issue I agree don't feed the troll... and the best way to do that is not to read their posts and never react no matter what they post... True. An increase is always great and shows progress.

Considering it was two bottom teams from regional areas(sorry adelaidians) last night ,it was to be expected. Normally I like to watch any AU game, but wow AU have hit rock rock bottom.

The game was able to crack 100k in total, which should be viewed positively.
The NBL would be very happy with such figures.
Provides a bit of a pointer as to why the next two teams will be from Melbourne and Sydney.

So SBS barely gets higher ratings for an EpL game compared to a Foxtel Melb derby. Add to that Optus paid $60 mill / year for a product less popular than HAL.

I thought some of the bigger games were hitting 100K plus last season/early this season. Surprised with the derby result. Is this traditionally a poor viewing time period of the year with the amount of events happening?

Is this traditionally a poor viewing time period of the year with the amount of events happening? Traditionally, as we start getting into December, ratings and attendances drop off a bit, and pretty much stay there for the remainder of the season.

Do evening cricket broadcasts do any damage? The 2 sports traditionally dont overlap in terms of fans, it's not like the afl/nrl where it's watched and attended by tens of thousands of wogs.

I think this is the problem. You're thinking in ethnicity. It does if I didn't want to watch football. Cricket starts before football and sometimes I'm tempted to continue watching it for continuity. They do overlap but its no excuse.

The point about being on FTA is getting broad, mainstream support over and above rusted on fans, so from that perspective, clashing with cricket does not help.

I simply don't know many football fans who watch cricket, at best it's something you would have on in the background until something comes on that you actually want to watch.
Granted I'm a huge cricket fan lol. If it is making a difference doesn't look good with the big bash around the corner.

You also forget the cricket fan who likes football. This is the supporter you lose when the crickets on. Not every A league fan has football as their go to sport, much as that is seen as a heresy here.

Plenty and i mean plenty of football fans are also cricket fans. The sports are played at oppoaite times of the year for kids.

Obviously not too many "football ethnics" would watch cricket, but plenty of anglos (such as myself) watch both cricket and football. There is undoubtedly an overlap, although personally I will always pick football over cricket, unless its the Ashes.

Looking at those ratings, a 3rd Melbourne team is a no-brainer.

+xLooking at those ratings, a 3rd Melbourne team is a no-brainer. Theres not a hell of a lot of difference in average ratings if you take out Perth, Newcastle, Adelaide, Wellington, Central Coast. You could make a case for Sydney 3 or Melbourne 3 if tv was your only factor, maybe even Brisbane 2.

Paul Gallen’s fight with Junior Paulo became the highest rating boxing event in Fox Sports history outside of the Main Event channel. It attracted more than 145,000 viewers. The Cronulla skipper’s next fight this Friday night against a proper boxer, Ryan Carr, is expected to rate even better and pack out Shark Park as well. Did the Melb Derby get higher than 145k views?
