+x+xBbl is the last throw of the dice for cricket, if not for the bbl crickets decline would be more obvious than it is, all the shiny lights are masking crickets serious issues world wide. Real cricket is test cricket, but it is a 19th century game played in the 21st century and no one goes anymore, bar some ok crowds in England, India and Australia. This is the reason why there is day night cricket here in Australia, it is too give the public a different experience, unfortunately for cricket the novelty will wear off within 5 years. Same goes for bbl, it's a novelty, it's flashy, but again you can only hold people's attention for a short time, until people move on to the next flashy thing. No one can convince me that the bbl is a sport, i feel you have to care who wins and loses & the bbl doesn't get you to care about the team, unlike all the football codes. It's a bit like the Australian idol of sport, it's entertaining but eventually it isn't entertaining anymore. Well said, I remember when the short version of cricket was introduced in the late 1970's. One Day Cricket (50 overs) had people talking all about the sport with huge tv ratings. Look what happened to that and in due time the same will happen to the 20/20 version. Is it just me or are some of the close "exciting" finishes manufactured? How soon before we get a BBL match fixing controversy?

Nature of the game - a. 2nd side chasing known total in known number of balls b. Short innings c. Rarely running out of wickets, batsmen quality drops slowly down order End result, only necessary risks are taken, little to gain by risking getting to the winning total before 19.5 overs are up.

It's pressure as well, needing 20 runs from 20 balls with 4 wickets in hand looks simple, but you want to chase down those runs without losing wickets, if new batsmen come to the crease that makes the chase significantly harder as you don't get the time to settle. Believe it or not the format does have strategy behind it. If you get to the last over with wickets in hand you then have the opportunity to throw the bat at everything.

+x+x+x+xCan someone provide the amount of money paid by sky nz for the a league? Please and thank you. Also do they ever release their TV numbers? We want to see the metrics lel I remember seeing that usually get between 10k and 20k in viewers which all considered isnt that bad when their population is a sixth of ours. Which actually puts the ridiculous 180k broadcast deal into real farcical territory. This would be equivalent of fox paying 2.4 mill a year for the rights when u take into account the ratings in oz are 3 times more than in NZ (assuming 20k in nz) and then multiply by 4 times more games. last reported year was 2014-15 - 16 matches were reported at an average of 17,500 per game, and 24,000 for a final. Its worth noting that the Sky deal apparently only guarantees Wellington games live, and "a hundred other matches". So not every game is being broadcast. I know hence why i said 4 times more games for fox compared to only 1 game a week live in nz.

+x90k up against the BBL directly, great stuff. 77k Roar/Jets? Wow. Yep seriously was not expecting good ratings for either of these considering the direct competition on at the moment. The adelaide. Victory game could have been semi expected but the rating for the roar game was even more of a surprise considering Newy really arent a draw card at the moment.

Out of all the teams that are just making up the numbers the jets have been by far the most impressive and the one you would prefer to watch on the box right now. Entertaining controversial 4-2 loss to victory, 2-3 win away in brisbane..think they had an entertaining 2-2 at home a few weeks back...sure beats watching duds like adelaide and wsw who seem to score once a month.

To suggest we need to stoop to that level is anathema to the objectives of the A League and FFA.

The figures seem relatively steady in the face of the BBL onslaught. Once the BBL is over, I expect to see another large spike in viewing figures.

What this tells me is when people are away on holiday the tv turns to BBL because its on FTA and noone has foxtel on holiday. When people return home they flick back to their Foxtel. I know this from personal experience. At the beach the tv was on BBL or test cricket as background. But nobody gave a sh.t. about BBL.Now i am home. Give me back my Foxtel and HAL.

One feels MCs ratings has to do with the amount of Friday night games they have been given this season. Really increasing their average.
Poor old WP... When was the last time they played a Saturday night game?
These averages don't mean much imo.
Would take much more time ... But the more interesting stats would be time slot averages for each team.

Melbourne Victory v Sydney fc on Australia day will be a preview of this years grand final, Will be interesting to see what it will rate. I am expecting record ratings for this time of the year even though it will come up against some form of cricket game.
