Burton have broken their transfer record for the second time in a week with the signing of Australia international Jackson Irvine from Ross County.

The fee for the 23-year-old has not been revealed, but the Brewers have confirmed it is more than the undisclosed amount paid on Tuesday for previous record signing Kyle McFadzean.

Irvine, who has represented his country four times, has signed a three-year deal with the Sky Bet Championship new boys.

Burton Albion have signed Ross County and Australia midfielder Jackson Irvine for an undisclosed fee.

The Championship club say they have paid a club-record fee for the 23-year-old, having only broken their previous record by signing MK Dons defender Kyle McFadzean on Tuesday.

Irvine, who has signed a three-year deal, made 45 appearances for Scottish top-flight side Ross County last term.

He won his fourth cap for Australia in their 2-1 defeat by England in May.

"He's an Australia international who has got good experience in Scotland with Celtic and most recently Ross County," Brewers boss Nigel Clough told the club website.

"He's still relatively young but he's one that we think can still improve with us and he wants a chance to play in England."

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre said: "After refusing a number of bids from Burton Albion, they submitted one that met Irvine's release clause and he has subsequently agreed terms.

"We reluctantly see Jackson head south."

Significant step up for him you'd think, hopefully he'll kick on and do amazing things. Real chance to cement his spot in the Socceroos, with an ageing Jedinak and Milligan loitering in the desert.

good luck to him we need a back up for jedi and he has a lot of creativity to go with his defensive attributes

mooys national team performances compare favourably to players who play/have played at a higher level than the championship. Irvine probably is 3rd choice in his position for australia.

most players in the last decade from australia who have gone to the championship have gone backwards in their performance for the national team. At least irvine is used to rough english football

Always interesting when some of these little known (in Australia) clubs rise up through the leagues. Burton have a ground capacity of 6900. How do they run a pro club with that ?
I guess the TV money must help . Not sure how much that would have been though when they were in League Two only a few years ago.

They got back to back promotions and have only been int he football league since 2009. Rumours I saw on Ross county forums is the defender that broke the record earlier in the week was £300,000 and Irvine was £500,000 ($871k). Not massive but clubs don't spend record fees not to play a player.



Wouldn't it be better to look at the league he is competing in as thats where his opposition will be coming form? he has gone from a league rated 1284 to 1474. At 1474 the Championship is rated above Turkey, Croatia, Belgium and the Netherlands top tiers.

Also where does the Elo put the A-league? The only source I could find had our highest club (WSW) at like 1410 but it also had Gold Coast United as our 4th highest rated club (I suppose they can't lose points if they never play). Even then ELO only works when you have a lot of data of the teams playing each other. It works say across Europe because the Europa league and Champions league can be used to standardise clubs across league but teams rarely play different confederations so it is hard to say comparisons between confederation clubs will have enough relevant data to be accurate.

This Foxtel deal with Bein sports is going to be a winner with quite a few Aussies to watch in the Championship.
Sooner or later another Aussie is going to make it in the EPL,Irvine has as a good a chance as any of being one.
Many people may question the quality of Scottish Football.But one thing it does give players is the toughness to succeed in England.Irvine having ticked the toughness box now can now see if his quality is good enough to become an elite player.

Hes a gun he had 11 assists last season from DM if he does that in the champ lots of EPL sides will come looking fullbacks and DMs who can create are the most sought after champ players not to many other positions will get you to the EPL without promotion.

Most of Mooy's national team games have come against opposition below Championship level.

Imo, Irvine is the Socceroo who has made the most sensible moves in recent times. Upwards trajectory and always challenging his ability while getting the best chance of game time. Not moving to clubs where it's ridiculously tough to make the team, but not stagnating in the A-League

pretty silly to compare the league they played in rather than the players themselves.

His time at County was great for him. Thought moving to Ross County was a pretty tough gig considering Dingwall is a tiny village down in the middle of nowhere. He's done well to stick it out, get regular game and improve his game.

Seems good. Hopefully he can grab a leadership role within the group.
