+x+x+xFootball NSW 34 mins ago We've just had our 100th entry in the Westfield @FFACup for 2017! If your team wants to apply, here's the info: https://t.co/9bQ4QGn3gJ Any idea why Cup entry in FNSW is so pathetic? They supposedly have the highest participation number by a huge margin but are dwarfed by FFV in terms of Cup entries. FFV have 191 current entries for the Cup and FNSW have only just got to 100, only 130 total last year. Is it time to consider taking that 5th spot from FNSW if they can't get their Cup entries up to an acceptable level. NSW is pathetic. Period. They do, however have another month to stump up 30 clubs plus but, yes, I do agree with you. I'd say there's a number of factors. But the biggest ones are: - size and spread of clubs part of FNSW compared to Vic - NNSW being separate - the football pyramid being very different up here In Vic you have a clear pyramid from the NPL down to the provisional leagues. Up here you've got NPL 1, 2, 3 and State League 1. That's where the pyramid ends. The majority of those clubs are in the Sydney metro area due to travel. The rest is just local districts. So basically what you get is the clubs in those top 4 divisions registering and some premier leauge sides from the local Sydney metro districts. If local club X doesnt send their Prems, their Div 4 side probably doesnt even realise they could register if they wanted to. Clubs from the Southern, Western and Riverina branches are unlikely to enter as it means a round trip of 10 hours+ for many of them

Clubs from the Southern, Western and Riverina branches are unlikely to enter as it means a round trip of 10 hours+ for many of them So why don’t more local association clubs enter the cup? FNSW (NNSW are irrelevant) has control of about 520 individual men’s all-age clubs (not teams). FFV only controls about 280. Shouldn’t FNSW make it more attractive for these clubs to want to enter. Is retaining the Bill Cullinan Cup separate from the Waratah Cup a problem that is leading to this lack of FFA Cup entry? It looks like 38 eligible clubs entered the Bill Cullinan Cup only and not the FFA Cup as well last year. The Western, Southern and Riverina clubs should also be encouraged. Possibly with regional qualifying. The distance argument doesn’t really hold up as in WA we have clubs from Kalgoorlie, Albany and Geraldton, SA have clubs from Mount Gambier, Vic has clubs from Mildura and Warrnambool. All of these places are a long way from their capitals, further then places like Bathurst, the Southern Highlands, Blue Mountains, Shoalhaven. As an ex-Riverina player I know the problems of travel for cup and rep games, but there has to be a way to encourage country entry in NSW. And you’re a 50-50 chance of snagging a home tie anyway. I just took a look at the cost involved. FNSW charge $330 for a non-NPL club to enter the FFA Cup. FFV subsidise this so that the cost is only $110 for clubs below the NPL.

Why dont more association clubs enter? I dunno, that's a question for the clubs. I just think a lot of it is cultural. I dont think there was ever huge association club entry into the Waratah Cup - at least not in the 10 or so years that I've been following it closely. Whereas the Dockerty Cup has always had significant entries from the provisional clubs. In regards to regional clubs - as above. I wouldnt have a clue why more of them dont participate. Dont know whether that's down to FNSW not doing enough or the clubs not being interested. I'd say the answer lies somewhere inbetween. Would be interesting to do an analysis of regional sides from state to state to see how they compare I'm not defending FNSW here. Just tried to come up with a few factors impacting participation.

Then entrants into the big dance need to be restricted until the issue is rectified. It seems its an issue that comes up time and rime again with state associations and rebel clubs Encourage conforming or no more teams in the 36.

I hope Chelsea can win one game in qualifying, don't think they've managed one in previous editions.

I wonder if heat policies will be in place this weekend. I was going to go to the Twin City Wanderers vs Glen Eira game but it will be 40 degrees at kick off.

+xyep, going to be a "cooking" weekend ! Anything near on 40deg should be cancelled. Games will be cancelled if its too hot. Football NSW sent an email to all the clubs. Our youth got their games against Manly called off on Sunday. The seniors still played after the temperature dropped.
