+x+x+x+xGotta say this would level the playing field if it happened. Damn right it would. Who could realistically replace him? Birighitti? If not then pie in the sky stuff like Federici. Then more younger Aussies abroad like Cisak, Glover, Nizic etc. In other words hes probably not getting replaced and Redmayne could well be our #1 if we sign one of the young kids. I believe that JC has worked with Federici in the past - could be an in. Still one more year of his contract to run and I'd suggest he's probably on more as a bench keeper in the EPL than he'll ever get playing in Australia.

I'm confused by seeing this article in the West Australian... How does this have anything to do with the West Coast Eagles?

LOL at those you think we'd go into the season with a numpty like Redmayne as our number one.

Alex Cisak, Thomas Glover or Mark Birighitti would be good Australian keepers to replace Vukovic.

I hear Gigi Donnarumma doesn't want to sign a new contract with Milan.

Anyway good luck vuka, really was going to be a replacement for mark until that little incident. He can get to a high level over there and well easy find space back home if things don't work out. But i hope he makes both Ryan, langerak look over their shoulder as they both have been unconvincing.

Good luck to him - great move.
I hope that whoever SFC sign is young enough to receive the full benefit of JC's tutelage and further strengthen Australia's keeping stock.

+xWould be absolutely thrilled for him though. Had a ridiculous season and deserves one last shot and a successful overseas move. Couldnt hold it against him but hed be impossible to replace Bit like that isn't it. Just like Galekovic. Shit that he goes but can't hold it against him in any way. Good luck to him and that million would be a damn nice thank you present for the club

Vedran is at least a good shot stopper. I'd prefer to have him over Redmayne any day.
Good luck to vukovic if he goes. I'd take Birighitti as his replacement personally.

+xGood luck to him and that million would be a damn nice thank you present for the club I think they should try for a Timmy marquee. Im still not entirely sure what the prerequisites are. But they could take the $1 mil and front load a contract like Timmy. So $1.2 million for 2 seasons and the 2nd they get paid $200k and be under the cap.

Someone at Genk must really have a thing for Aussie goalkeepers! Congrats to Danny and good luck! Also, youngsters George Timotheou and Bai Antoniou have both left the club to pursue other football career interests
Are there any young SFC players that are going to come through the ranks anytime soon?
And SFC fans, do you think that Vukovic's replacement will be an Aussie player or will Arnold go for a foreigner since they've got some cash from this?

+xAnd SFC fans, do you think that Vukovic's replacement will be an Aussie player or will Arnold go for a foreigner since they've got some cash from this? Good question. I just can't see a feasible Australian replacement for Vuka. Redmayne isn't starting material either. Perhaps Federici? I'd rather not have him. If we get an Aussie replacement for Holosko (Burns maybe) then a foreign GK may come in. I'm absolutely gutted by this. Vuka was the heart and soul of the team last season and is virtually irreplaceable as a person. Good luck to him though, hopefully he continues his great form for Genk.

As good as Vukovic was (and not trying to take anything away from his impressive season where he didn't put a foot wrong), it also seemed like he didn't have THAT much work to do (bar a few games where he pulled off some important saves).
I think overall Sydney's defensive 6 will protect whoever comes in well enough that it will be hard not to perform well.

Completely disagree with that. He saved SFC many, many times - not just average stops but cracking saves. That doesn't take anything away from SFCs defence but I'd say he was probably worth 10-15 points last season

Look at that, they even had Redmayne as No1. In all seriousness I can't see Redmayne staying as the No1. If I was a manager I would be looking to get one of the Brisbane Keepers, who are both decent No1 keepers. Jamie Young is a pretty good keeper, especially as a shot stopper and has improved with his feet, not sure if its enough though.

@ RBB
very smart. I doubt Theo would move as he's one foot in retirement and a booming soccer coaching business. But Young would certainly move although he's a year left in his contract.

+xWelcome to the after effects of a successful season in the A-league. Salary caps who wants them. You think he wouldnt take an opportunity at a Euro career if there wasnt a salary cap. That and we get possibly a 1mil transfer fee. Cap or no cap this deal still happens.

The salary cap is suppressing valuations of players, wages and so is the lack of transfer fees.

I am really surprise to hear this news. Is this a good decision for Danny moving overseas considering his son's health? I understand that it was his family support that got him through last season.

Hes had two failed overseas moves why on earth wouldnt he take it? And glad you mention transfer fees, we're getting 1million which apparently activated a clause in his contract. So again no salary cap is stopping that.

wow. He absolutely deserves it, and deserves success.
But crap, I hope there is some master plan to cover for this that isn't just train up a hopeful while Redmayne plays... We were doing so well in keeping the important players until this.

1m for Vuka is pretty good business given the size of some A-league transfers in the past. Good luck to him, wish him all the best.
