I know this has been discussed a million times before and has got boring but I always wonder what difference it would of made to the ratings if it was on 9 or 7. Maybe not much.

I think the ratings would fall if 7 or 9 had them. SBS have a deep in their soul understanding of the WC and have many connections. 7 & 9 would have collusion code journalist running it and invite Paul Wade to come on. You would have an NRL or AFL hack running it and getting feedback from other NRL & AFL folk and knowledgeable Football folk would not appear and even the Football folk they put on would be not the go too people. I remember I think it was 2006 when 9 sent across all these NRL, AFL & Union folk and no one from Football and I think in 2010 9 were discussing an Australian game and in a two hour pre tournament show the first Football person they spoke to was 1 hour 40 minutes into the show.. No keep them away at all costs. Just need Fozzie to change his topic from every game has to be played the way he thinks Football should be played... and how Australia should go on all out attack....

In 2006 the AFL sent their footy TV show across to Germany for the WC. The host tried to interview/harass some Australian football fans at the pub and they told him to F off and one of them tried to spit at him which was a bit over the top. They never went back to another WC...

This is the same Midfielder who has been attacking SBS for the past 2 years, blaming SBS for poor HAL ratings, and predicting a 200k+ boost when the HAL moved to a commercial channel.

I have read what’s said. And I read more dribble from you than anyone else here.
Those of us that have been following football for more than 4 years know what SBS has done for our sport for decades. We’ve never attacked SBS they way you did. And then the HAL went off SBS and our ratings fell off a cliff.
Now you say SBS good, commercial TV bad.
Muppet.

When the Wantabees went up against the Socceroos head to head ... the Socceroos just won 2.133 million against 197 thousand ... Socceroos got about 11 times more. Last night, no NRL, no Football, only a poor AFL match, heaps of pre game promotion, series deciding match at perfect timing 8:00, number two side in the world... and less than Football overseas match .

Does anyone know if any commercial channels bid for the World Cup? It seems to me an obvious ratings winner, even given the late times. If it is still totally ignored, you would wonder if deep rooted prejudices are the cause.

Looks good for a non Roos game. I would imagine that the Origin game would have had big numbers but not 3.44 million like the game against Denmark.
Wonder how much Contra was splashed on the Origin game compared to the measly SBS budget. Perhaps the reporting Optus Sport debacle actually made Australia notice that the World Cup was actually on.
I think those melburnian egg-ballers will be cringing at the World Cup rating for 8.00pm and 10.00pm slots. If we get another 3 million plus on FTA, those sherrin-lovers will be devising another devious plot to kill football in Australia.
I will say that I have Optus Sport and BBC commentary is far superior than Basheer does. I think Optus have solved their technical issues by a shift back to SBS of many customers. I will watch on Optus Sport on Wednesday morning and go to SBS if there is a problem again

Participation rate are higher than rugby, rugby still has the air of the upper-class game to it, football has the effniks and the concerned mothers demographic going for it.
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

State of Origin last night peaked at 3.1m viewers, which is less than Aus v Denmark Thursday 10pm. So fairly good numbers. Goes to show even more so how much the FFA need to cater to football fans instead of trying to please fans from other codes. Yes, a lot of the 3.1m aren't rusted on football fans, but a large portion of them would be. They just wouldn't be fans of the A-League.
