loool.  i really really doubt daily telegraph readers are going to understand shakespearean references.  let alone those that peruse the sports section. how does this make it past the editors?

Perhaps the writer should have used "Scored an own goal"? Which would have been both apposite and comprehensible - plus a knowledge of Shakespeare would not have been needed.

And how many of those editors (or writers) would appreciate it as one of the world's oldest known fart jokes?

Chaucer's "Miller's Tale" is around two hundred years earlier.

I seem to remember that a few years ago they found a Sumerian text dating from around 2000BC that included a joke about a young bride farting whilst sitting on her husband's lap.
