I watched snippets of the game and what was alarming is how poor technically they looked compared to the opponents, something is not going well in the youth development front and it needs fixing fast otherwise the next decade or so could be a different one.

What’s the saying, no youth no future? The countries that improve focus on the youth, it seems we can’t say the same about us sadly.

It's always been an interesting discussion. Teams with youth titles tend to bear some fruit in senior years either with a title or going deep into tournaments. Nigeria are the funny exception. You look at Mexico among other nations here and it's so apparent that US and European clubs will start bringing these players into and our players will be akin to the doldrums of 2012-15 or so for the men's team with slimmer European pickings.

it's pretty complicated
you can win youth titles by having more players born earlier in the year, use speed, power and athleticism

if you do a more technical approach you handicap yourself for the sake of results at senior level

but if both teams are playing the same style then you can probably read more into results

yeah starting to finally produce players regularly for europe for those born 2000 and after

what's going wrong with the women?

Is it the AL women's being underpaid? Or the season being too short? Lack of pathways underneath (like the men's game)?

All of this and it looks like it will get worse if FA doesn’t step in to help.

Does anyone know why the APL franchises dont have womens/girls NPL teams like they have for mens football? Is it a cost thing or something else?

It would be almost certainly a cost thing. Franchise (I hate using that term) owners are already being asked to fund more of their ALM teams so would be reluctant to fund more women’s teams.

I note that MacArthur Bulls have a team in NSW NPLW although in reality it is Northbridge Women.
Also a team called Emerging Jets is in NSW NPLW although I don’t know if they are funded by Newcastle United Jets or Northern NSW FA.

I dont know about the other states but I cant seem to find any record or reference to Victory, CFG or WU junior football women's results.. does anyone know if they play or even have teams? And no, Calder United being an "umbrella' club for the gypsies isnt what Im talking about.

So why are all potential NST clubs AND NPL clubs required to have both a women's senior team AND junior squads playing in competiton?

I mean its a great thing, girls participation is booming but why do some "clubs" not feel the need to do whats best for football?

Some might find it controversial but most, if not all, our star Matildas grew up playing against boys. Now, as participants skyrocket and they get identified earlier, they are brought into the girls/women's system earlier and earlier.

Sure, girls mature earlier than boys, but by 12/13/14 the boys are generally faster, stronger, rougher, cocky kids showing-off their tricks etc. Competing at a decent level against the sheer number of boys means you've definitely "got something". If you've made it at the highest level, it kinda just makes sense that you've been kicking butt against the boys first, more often than not. This might not be such a thing in countries with massive numbers of girls playing.

Perhaps FA’s pursuance of the reopening of the AIS programmes would be of benefit with the expansion of opportunities for girls/women.
This would shift the cost burden onto FA /Federal Government, let’s face it Australia has to do something, and pretty quick, to prepare the next generation of Matildas.

Apparently we dont usually make the u20 wc, so in principle this is progress, but perhaps signals the womens team is where the mens team was around 2009ish

Then it becomes even more imperative that programmes are put in place to help prepare teams for major competitions.

Depends on what he does and how long the interim appointment ends up being.

If he keeps the same old faces and the same old practices we will get the same old results.

If he makes changes that allow the Tillies to develop as a professional team then it could be a good start.

If he is appointed interim coach and we get a win somewhere, or they do a survey and he meets the popularity requirements, then they make it permanent without actually looking for 'the best coach' I see it as regressive.

Personally, appointing Staj for a decent period with the authority to actually be the coach would be a good start for me but I just couldn't see it working out even if it could be made to happen.

The limiting 'we know what we are getting' mentality is a big factor in our national coaches I expect.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.
