O'Toole looks like he has a future.

There a quite a few good A-league full backs in the league, Hingert is one of them, but I don't think any of them is worthy of a Socceroos place. They might do okay in some games but they just don't have the quality.

Well we now know that we can win a game provided we are gifted a few goals.
We just seem to have no structure to our game. BFK and Beautheac did well, but McKay and Caletti not do much.
Gee Brattan still looks quality on the ball, and i reckon is the best in the A league at free kicks/crosses into the box. What a wasted two seasons. If he'd gone to a club where he'd have played another 40-50 games, he'd be heading to Russia next year.

Brisbane started off okay, but all the old blokes faded in the second half .Holman was all over the place.Maccorrone was everywhere but nowhere and BKF was trying to outdo Rocca.I still dont like McKay and Caletti playing together with Holman as the midfield. For the Mauk goal the gaping hole in midfield was like a freeway.Caletti trotting back.Holman nowhere and Mckay also missing.
But we won 3-1.Just bizarre.Three gifts and barely any other chances created.
We could go all season and not see any other team gifted a game like that.

Papadopoulos is by far and away our best player, maybe the best CB we've had. I know JA has been dishing out the excuses lately with the amount of injuries, lack of fitness etc. but I believe when everyone is fit we will be right up there. O'toole looks like a 50 game A-league player already, very impressive. Pepper at CB has been solid. Maccarone is still copping it on social media, but we just don't use him like we should. He still draws smart fouls, uses his body well when he needs to. I have no problem with him. Get a fit Franjic, Kristensen, North and Devere back in the fold and I think we will start surprising a few.

Pepper and Budzinski both should have got red cards for their tackles. Tough by A-league standards but A-league standrards are shit. Both lunged in studs showing late and reasonably high. They are both tackles that should not be part of the game. Not as bad as some other tackles which have not received red cards this season but bad enough.

Have you watched any other games outside Australia?

In a resort somewhere

I think pepper found his position. He is a far better CB than DM.

I still don't get the hype around Kamau and Fitzgerald. Fitzy is a good a league player, Kamau is fast but lacks any end product.

Papa is god.

MC got better as they finally put on a creative player in brattan. where able to be far more dangerous with their posession. the first half they where just lacking any sort of threat other than a cheap turn over and go long. The manager got the tactic all wrong. Fix it in the 2nd and it was a more even game.

Just really need kristensen, maybe we should try and get brattan back?

Yes we could do with Brattan.
I think we can write off Kristensen for the season.Nobody knows whats going on with him amd Now they discover something new .He is a big lanky player prone to injuries and isn't getting younger.
Oxborrow doesn't look like a suitable replacement .It looks like he needs to go and get confidence playing somewhere.Pity there isnt a second division.I dont know how players like this develop with minmal game time.Maybe he should do a Petrat and go to Malyasia or Thailand for a season..
Caletti is a passer of the ball and thats it.So unless he plays as an AM,to me he is a liability as a defender.
McKay is still struggling.Maybe it's because of all the new players around him.But he is slower on the ball and is not doing much but passing sideways and backwards if not being dispossed.
Holman is his normal random self.Good one minute poor the next.Playing as striker one minute and RB the next.
When MC took control of midfield in the second half it was Holman,McKay and Caletti that went missing. That combination is still the major weakness.
Pappa,Bautheac,O'Toole and even Pepper put in good efforts.
Pappa running into the box for the header, just shows how bad our midfield is.I am sure that was his decision and not a plan.Yet all those players in front of him have no natural, instinct to get into the box to attack.
He is doing a great job as a cb,but might he be a great midfielder with runs like that?

What crimsoncrusoe said.
Though it would be pretty pointless any of our midfielders getting in the box for a header.

Just on the we were "gifted" our goals is a bit of a stretch imo. They came from mistakes before hand sure but its not like they tapped in the back of the net for Brisbane.

First goal Papa took a big risk going in a for a header like that, Galkeovic could have easily taking him out, Papa actually copped one in the head in the process and still had to get the header on target. Cahill would have been proud of that one.

Second goal, back pass from LaRocca but Big Mac stuffed it with his first touch, the actually goal come from him laying it off to a great run from Eric who finished it beautifully.

3rd goal, Galekovic drops the ball actually from contact from one of his own players, Papa stayed calmed and had they skills to turn and finish it with 3 players around him.

Mr B the opportunities to score were gifted. Sure Brisbane still had to finish them but they weren't off the back of anything other than some of the poorest errors you can make in football ie. Dropping the ball as a keeper, back pass to an opposition player etc.

The frustrating thing from a Roar point of view is those forwards individually are quite talented,if old.If we had that midfielder who could stay more or less central and pick out a pass to an advancing player ,they would all look a lot better. But Holman doesnt do that.He is like where's wally. He is a runner and good at it most times. When the ball needs to move forward McKay is droppin back to collect it and whose in front of him?Not Holman,he is jogging back from strikers position.

Interestingly last year Calletti was making some killer passes. This year he seems to have gone into his shell and is doing nothing more than laying it off backwards and sideways.

It’s really Holman that should be playing the killer balls through , more often or not he’s out of position chasing
Caletti and McKay are holding midfielders , can’t really blame Caletti for not risking speculative passes but I suppose it’s also a confidence thing and the kid is still only 19 .
Happy with the win , can see us knocking over both Sydney teams , then we are back on track.

There’s no “second half fade” going on with Brisbane’s midfield - vs City in Round 1 we lost the midfield in the first half but dominated the second half in midfield. Lady night was the reverse - Aloisi was out coached again.

Got to wonder whether Avraam should be move forward to DM? Pepper is looking more than comfortable at CB so there are options with North/Bowles on the verge of a return.

All good Niko, it was more the way it was said from the commentators, maybe I took it the wrong way but it felt like they were trying to downplay Brisbanes win, though it was a scrappy win for sure.

@ niko

In round one city benefited from defensive mistakes - two shots on target all game and two goals as a results of defensive mistakes. Don’t recall anyone on these pages pulling those goals apart though?

Most goals come from some form of mistake, it’s part of football, yes City made mistakes but someone still had to score them which is what Mr. B was saying. City’s goal last night was a result of two defensive mistakes, the Brisbane defender first failing to track the run and then the keeper not covering his near post.
