+x+x+x+x+xWhy in gods name would a smallish sporting league with little money, trying to gain traction in a market dominated by other wealthy codes possibly want to leverage off a global juggernaut with an audience almost perfectly aligned with it own target market? Preposterous! You forgot to mention a league that posters on here have been complaining about failing to market the season so far too. Curious where the line is here What would you 2 actually find too tacky for a serious football match ? Players in Storm Trooper outfits ? Ref's in Vader helmets ? Rugby League does this many times a year. As long as we don't have jerseys with Star Wars all over them I have no problem with it . Its called advertising ..... which most on here have complained about a distinct lack of....If they suddenly brought Lionel Messi and Ronaldo to our league those same people would find a negative in it . I am sure the kids will love it . They do at the Rugby League. And how well is Rugby League going with attendances? Tbh normally I wouldn't be too bothered by this stuff, however considering the timing and the fact that the game has so many important issues to resolve, throwing this out there as some genius marketing idea is just embarrassing. Perhaps if it were included at a time when everything was rosy ie at the start of 2015, then it wouldn't be such a bad thing, but this gimmick will have surely cost the ffa money and imo it could have waited or been better spent. Perhaps spending money on building up the personalities "stars" of our game would actually help kids feel connected with clubs. Had this exact conversation with some work mates yesterday. Interest in NRL is dwindling year on year because of token rounds every second week. Top that off with the VAR system and playing in large empty stadiums and it creates a very similar problem to what the A League has right. No co-incidence that Gallop helped introduce many of those problems when he was in charge of the NRL.

Its not just the money hungry commercially driven metrics based crap that we see time and time again that infuriates me Its that trying to cash in on Star wars is small change compared to the substantial money lost by having 3 of the 5 biggest clubs suffering as a result of the current system. And truckloads of cash turned away from CFG in the name of fairness. Not to mentioned what was lost by storming away from SBS and going to channel 10 Ruining our game for money is one thing. Ruining our game to be no better off (and in many instances worse off) is sabotage
