Wow - what a squad. When the lowest performing club any of your players come from is Stuttgart (at 7th in the Bundesliga), you know we're about to get screwed.

There is a lot of pressure on France. They're gonna come out all guns blazing to stamp their mark on the tournament, especially after not winning the Euros at home. We should 100% play to frustrate them for as long as possible, then anything can happen.
Their main weakness will be in their fullbacks. Mendy is just coming back from a season long injury, and Sidibe isn't the quickest. We should definitely get some joy out of what I presume will be Leckie and Kruse in transition.

Or best of all, the 2001 Confederations Cup, we beat them 1-0.

Very scary French squad on paper. Getting a result against this France would be without question our greatest international match ever.

Won't happen but I'd love to see Arzani running at their inevitable high line.

In intrnational football in one offs, anything is possible. My only concern is our current generation don't have the graft and toughness that you;d assume would help when playing against a far superior technical opponent.
be interesting to see what Bert installs in them. My prediction - who knows? any positive result would be great

Foxsports article states that France's standby 11 are worth AU$502m, our squad of 26 is worth AU$75m.
Their 23 man squad is worth AU$1.5b!!! There are four players in their squad who are EACH valued more than the whole 26 man squad of Australia.
Anyway you look at that ... a respectable loss would be a good result given those odds.

+xGreat thing about football. It’s not won on paper. I think we are in with a good chance. You're right, it's not won on paper. It's won when France walks about 15 goals into our net.

Doesn't mean much if we beat the other 2.

+xDoesn't mean much if we beat the other 2. Something we have never done before but anything could happen I guess, still better to have a somewhat decent gd in case that does not happen.

+xDoesn't mean much if we beat the other 2. The thing that usually decides who goes through is how the other 3 did against the top team relative to each other.

Runs both ways Each dodgy Australian tackle is valued at 100 million

+xOn paper is this the best French team ever? Their second team looks better than most the other countries first teams in the world cup. No, 98/02/06 The fucking scary thing is that they had a few years off then just cobbled together another one that's almost as good and still in its 20s. Like, 2 or 3 of them are over 30.

We'll be fine. France can't even beat Luxembourg at home. I reckon 4-1 to us.

Good in the front half, not as good at the back imo. Erickson the standout. Cornelius and Jorgensen have played well too.
Certainly we are the underdogs but they are Beatable.

I wouldn't say fantastic, since a draw against Denmark would probably knock us out. It would actually be kind of shit. I just hope the boys are aiming a bit higher than some on this board. This "pragmatic" negativity about our chances is suffocating. You might call it realism, but I just call it boring.

+x+xOn paper is this the best French team ever? Their second team looks better than most the other countries first teams in the world cup. Gotta be close. 1998 would be up there surely: Zidane, Pires, Viera, Lebouf Descahmps etc. And Thierry Henry

Narrowish loss to france, draw against denmark and win against peru should see us through if France belts the other 2 teams...
