Picture: AAP Image/James EslbyGriffin also questioned why Saturday night’s referee Shaun Evans wasn’t sanctioned after round three on October 20 in a 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory at Adelaide Oval. The most controversial moments during that clash were two off the ball tackles from Victory’s Rhys Williams. Griffin stated in the email the fourth official for the clash, SA-based Daniel Elder, however, was suspended after that match but it wasn’t made public. FFA preferred not to respond to the claims.  Reds press conference Griffin also hoped FFA’s director of referee Ben Wilson issues Adelaide an apology. “I do hope that AUFC (Adelaide) gets another letter of apology from Ben (Wilson),’’ he said. “We are wall papering the lunch room at Playford (Adelaide’s training base) and these will save us having to purchase paper. “AUFC can only wonder where it would be on the ladder if it had throughout this season not been subjected to poor refereeing performances and inconsistent usage of the VAR technology to address those obvious errors that other clubs have benefited from. “I trust that action will be taken against those responsible for last night’s farce and that this time the result of that inquiry not be withheld from the clubs and the public as occurred after our Victory game.” Evans was also at the centre of another controversy at Hindmarsh in 2016 after a crunching Jack Clisby tackle put former Red Sergio Cirio out of action for about 10 weeks before Brendan Santalab only escaped with a caution after another ex Red James Holland said he felt “lucky” his leg wasn’t broken in a clash with Western Sydney. O'Rouke said a few weeks ago to a meeting of the owners that the VAR had made 5 errors in total. 4 disadvantaged the Mariners and 1 the Adelaide. All other games this season have been perfect apparently. :angry:

The 132nd IFAB Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place at the Home of FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland on Saturday 3 March, and at that meeting the International Football Association Board (The IFAB) unanimously approved the use of video assistant referees (VARs). The decision is another step toward wide-ranging use of video assistance for referees in order to help increase integrity and fairness in the game. Prior to taking its decision, the members of The IFAB (the football associations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as FIFA, representing all other national football associations) were presented with the results of the independent analysis of the use of VARs conducted by Belgian university KU Leuven since the beginning of the VAR experiment in March 2016. Chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the meeting’s attendees also approved a draft VAR Handbook containing compulsory protocol, principles and requirements, as well as advice on the implementation of VARs, to enable competitions to complete the rigorous mandatory approval process. Infantino told the gathered media that the IFAB’s announcement would be discussed in reference to this year's FIFA World Cup™ later. “The decision on the World Cup in Russia on VAR will be taken at the next Council meeting in Colombia on 16 March,” said President Infantino, though he confirmed that he was “very positive about VAR.”

The final between Tottenham and Sheffield United held at Crystal Palace was attended by 110,820 fans, then the largest crowd ever for a football match. [4] The game ended in a 2–2 draw, with both Spurs goals from Sandy Brown, and a disputed goal from Sheffield – The final was the first to be filmed and it would be the first referee decision demonstrated to be wrong by film footage as it showed that the ball did not cross the line. [4][5] The replay was held at Burnden Park, Bolton on 27 April, 1901, which Spurs won 3–1.

Just saw the replay of the Valeri tackle. If you compare that to recent tackles that the VAR has upgraded to a red card you can only conclude that the league is corrupt. That tackle cannot be anything other than a red. It’s a joke.

At the start of the season that would have been upgraded to a red. But because there were so many poor uses of the VAR (everything was being re-refereed) they updated it so that yellows couldnt be upgraded to red if the referee saw the incident and carded the player, so now you're left with a situation where a clear red cant even be reviewed by the VAR.
Not corruption, just shit implementation.

Football's law-making body IFAB concedes the A-League grand final has exposed a flaw in the global protocols for video reviews and underlined the glaring need for a "back-up system" in case of technological glitches. 9 MAY 2018 - 5:32 AM UPDATED 6 HOURS AGO Saturday's video assistant referee (VAR) failure in Newcastle has reverberated around the world, with the German Bundesliga among the competitions which have contacted Football Federation Australia seeking information as to what went so wrong. FFA has already sent a preliminary account to IFAB, the organisation responsible for the laws of the game, and will prepare a more detailed paper once Hawk-Eye has analysed the 'crash dump report' from the software program that froze moments before Kosta Barbarouses' ninth-minute goal for Melbourne Victory. It meant the VAR on duty, Craig Zetter, did not have access to the side-on camera angle which made it abundantly clear that defender James Donachie was offside when he headed the ball across the box for Barbarouses to score. It comes just a month out from the World Cup in Russia, where the VAR will be used for the first time at football's showpiece event. "The incident in question was primarily the result of a short-term failure of the technology rather than human error on the part of the VAR team," an IFAB spokesman said a statement. "No technology system is perfect and what is important is for everyone to learn the lessons from this incident and ensure that when there is a technology failure there are procedures and a back-up system, so the problem can be overcome." A-League chief Greg O'Rourke confirmed to AAP that there was no alternate system in place for the grand final, which he believed was consistent with all leagues using VAR across the world and the protocols set out by IFAB. "That's clear. They have back-up hardware, but this was a software crash," he said. Although it will be of no comfort to the Newcastle Jets and their supporters, the creation of a standardised fallback option will most likely be the long-term legacy of their controversial 1-0 defeat. O'Rourke said FFA had already recognised the need for one and several months ago had toured the NRL's 'bunker', which has a back-up booth in case of emergency. With the A-League still committed to the use of VARs, it's likely the competition will look to emulate the rugby league set-up, which oversees all matches from a central location.

(Reuters) - Referees at the World Cup finals will be able to dish out red cards for off-the-ball incidents spotted by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, soccer’s rule-making body IFAB has said. “If there is something away from the action that has been missed and it later comes to the attention of the VAR or the assistant VAR, then they can inform the referee and he can send the player off, even if it is later in the match,” IFAB technical director David Elleray told The Times. “We do not anticipate this happening very often... this would only be for serious red-card offences.” The VAR system will be rolled out for the first time at a World Cup at the June 14 to July 15 tournament in Russia.

Last world cup there were 13 penalties in total. This world cup there have been ~16 at the half way mark Not only that but every time a goal is scored you have to wait for about 2 minutes of play before accepting that it has actually been approved The trials of VAR proved it to be a fuck up. But it wasn't the answer FIFA wanted so they went ahead with it anyway If we are stuck with this steaming pile of shit then at the very least it should only be used to review penalties or goals actually given, and only to the point of when the ball was last dead (ie- if the free kick was illegally won but the goal was legit then the goal stands) Under no circumstances should it ever be used to correct a decision not given because there have been fucking dozens of decisions not given that were not corrected - and this is the grey area that has fucked up this world cup I can see how anybody can stand by VAR. What has it even accomplished?

World Cup: Spain, Morocco, Portugal and Iran, across two games in two cities, play 17 insane minutes of footballUpdated In two separate matches, in two stadiums nearly 2,000 kilometres apart but at precisely the same time, complete World Cup madness unfolded in two Group B fixtures. Plenty was on the line in both Portugal's clash with Iran and Spain's meeting with Morocco, even into the final stages of the matches with the final group placings up for grabs and both games open, entertaining affairs. In Kaliningrad, Spain and Morocco were level at 1-1 after Khalid Boutaib's breakaway opener was cancelled out by Isco's brilliantly worked goal, while at the Mordovia Arena, Portugal led Iran through a Ricardo Quaresma wondergoal, although Cristiano Ronaldo had missed a VAR-awarded penalty. At that stage, Portugal was top of the group and Spain second. And then, all hell broke loose… 81st minuteSpain's hopes of topping the group take a gigantic blow when Youssef En-Nesyri climbs highest from a corner to head in a second for Morocco. The Moroccans are furious, screaming at the referee and remonstrating with the Spanish players. The goal will stand though, with Spain now level once more at 2-2. Over in Mordovia, Karim Ansarifard steps up confidently to take the spot kick and does what Ronaldo couldn't — belt it into the top corner. Iran has equalised, has moved back up to third in the table and still has a couple of minutes to steal a win that would see them progress ahead of Portugal. 98th minuteWith wind at their backs once more, Iran has been pushing for an equaliser — with Mehdi Taremi even having an incredible chance fall to his left foot that he put into the side-netting — but it's all for nothing. The two referees blow their whistles only seconds apart. Iran has fallen short, Morocco has missed out on its historic win, but Spain has moved back ahead of Portugal to top Group B thanks to a higher number of goals scored. Iranian players and fans succumbed to tears, some vented their rage at the referee and the VAR. Like Morocco, their World Cup has ended in disappointment but not disgrace. Spain will now have a much friendlier round of 16 game against Russia, while Portugal will be seriously tested by Uruguay. Once thought to be a lop-sided pool, Group B turned out to be an absolute cracker — and you'll be hard pressed to find a more manic 17 minutes of football in the history of this great tournament.
