Sunday 6pm AEST.
Adelaide have never won an away final, or any final against Victory...

Fucking keen for this game. So glad it's against the Pissants too, just that extra bit of spice. Has been a pretty flat season in terms of games I've been to so far, so looking forward to a real ball tearer Sunday night! Will be right in the thick of the combined South North ends too

Has there been too many genuinely unexpected results in many finals series in the past? I'm not thinking of too many. For all the magic of the cup talk etc, 5th and 6th usually drop out pretty quick. This Sunday must be the one for the Reds though i reckon. It'll be ding dong. Hopefully a few early yellows to victory players from the ref to set the tone and let em know that Muscats thuggery won't be tolerated and then their panic will set in. Vuck will have to resort to plan B. Actuallt playing football. Victory will be pretty worried about this game for sure.

IIRC, the last team to make a Grand Final from outside the top 3 was Adelaide City in 93/94 from 5th, and they went on to win it away to Viduka's Melbourne Knights.

Maybe whichever nerd was making up the charts ( or whatever they're called ) decided to make lists for each group? It'll give something for Speed to say anyway.

Our "semi pro" squad that year had Robert Zabica - Socceroos GK at the time Sergio Melta - very underrated player with only 1 NT appearance Tony Vidmar (enough said) Milan Ivanovic - one of the all time greatest central defenders in the NT Alex Tobin (enough said) Damian Mori (enough said) Carl Veart Goran Lozanovski - another NT player, not the best but still underrated Brad Hassell - probably the worst player in the lineup but a servicable NSL player at City and Glory I'm missing two players but can't put a name to them.

I don't think anyone looked like winning it with City players choking the life out of the Knights players, then Mori just smashes the leather off it and we win. I'm not sure even he knew where it was going when he hit it.

Played his entire career at Adelaide City. Could have stepped up but he just loved the club. In that season he was getting close to retirement as he was there since the 70s. He would have come close to having played every season of the NSL in its history though.

What really stands out is how young those lineups are compared to what we see now. The majority of those players from both sides were under the age of 25 playing in that grand final. Viduka was leading the line at 18 and top scorer and player of the year. Imagine an A-League Grand Final where both sides had an average age in the early twenties and one of them was an 18 year-old that was top scorer in the comp that season.....it is fantastic but unfortunately unfathomable now in the current A-League.

+xDon't expect much in terms of a crowd. This. I got a desperate text from mvfc yesterday promoting $25 tickets, didn't look into it as i cannot go but $25 is a decent price. 17,000 i reckon. I don't even think we could get 30,000 if we were in a position to host a final. Personally the only way this season could turn out a positive for the league is if it ended up being a Melbourne derby final.

+xThis should be a much more even match, actually think Adelaide might get the win aswell. If Adelaide win then Absalonsen is going to the key player. Given Victory do not have a proper RB that might well be the case but Deng might do a good job. Baba scored last week but he seems to be a player who needs to play a lot to get to full fitness and he has missed a lot of football. I also think Rhys Williams is a very good match up for Baba. Apart from that Adelaide lack a true creative attacking midfielder so will not be a huge threat from there although Adlung can get forward dangerously but might be called on to be a bit more defensive for a lot of the game.

Just found out there is a group of streets not very far from where I live that seem to be named after Adelaide City players from that kind of era, Tobin Crescent, Talladira Way, Mori Street, Melta Way, Zoran Court, Zabica Avenue, Mullen Close, Perin Avenue, Shillabeer Crescent, Veart Court, Hassell Court, Vidmar Crescent. There is also a Charlton Terrace and a Best Close.

Ha that is great! Did Maxi miss out though and just get Steve Lane? Hang on, i know someone where i live that's put the same street sign up himself on his previously unnamed lane. He's put an 's on the end though as his name is Steve. It's a good days drive away from Woodcroft though, have to ask him if he's ever been out Reynella way!

Just had another look and I reckon I know the culprit. There's a Pickard Cct there. That'd be Gordon Pickard - property developer and long term benfactor of both City and the guy who started Adelaide United.

I would guess Bobby Charlton and George Best are his favourite players seeing a couple of the streets are named after them as well.

Also, not sure if it was that season or maybe a couple of years later (i was just a kid then). But you could spot the bandwagoners a mile off. Blow ins used to always bag out this player we had named Di Vella. Our players didn't have their names printed on the kit - it was a back of shirt sponsor called Di Vella that made pasta, printed where a player's name would be. So whenever some guy did it it'd wind up some guy in the crowd who would yell back "that's alex tobin ya backyarder!!!"

I'd ask why didn't they wonder why every player was named Di Vella, but we are talking about South Australians. (Getting the bants in early).

But he went from Adelaide City to the Blades straight after they got relegated to div1/championship. And of course knocked Arsenal out of the FA cup.

+xI just want a decent game both teams could win this and even beat sydney so let’s see a good show Fingers crossed from some dodgy FFA conspiracy. Victory to beat Adelaide (as normal), then both Melbourne teams get the Ref's help to beat both Newy and Sydney......, City home final at AAMI vs Victory, more ticket sales, more revenue for FFA. Frank goes to sleep that night with his pillow full of notes.

Line ups as expected. Key match ups for me are George vs Marrone and Absalonsen vs Deng. I think both of the wingers have a bit of an advantage. Midfield battle obviously going to be highly important. If Adelaide can get Adlung and Konstandopoulos pushing foward then Adelaide will do well but if Melbourne force them to play deep leaving a big gap to the Adelaide forwards then Adelaide will really struggle.

Also lowkey one of the worst refereeing performances I've ever seen. Cared more about the placement of a free kick then controlling the actual flow of the game. Valeri should have been sent as well.

Valeri was super lucky, in the npl our Milos Lujic copped a red for the same tackle, 5 week suspension.
Can see Sydney winning the semi in controversial fashion.

So yeah Valeri should have been off. Would have liked to see what Izzo was going to do with that ball at 95:20 too And aside from Victory just being allowed to cut into Adelaides defence far too easily at the end of the match, it's pretty easy to accept a loss when it comes to a goal like that in the 89th minute. What. A. Fucking. Goal. Hadn't even crossed my mind about the season ending. Oh no, not fucking this again. It was a pretty crap hal this season for sure but the off season is still worse 😣

And he's a genuine creep of a human being. But one thing that has my respect. When he gives someone a bake straight into their face, then you see him back away and there's gum in the side of his mouth. That takes serious skill to scream in someone's face without losing your chewie in their eye.

Despite the loss, I've been pretty impressed by Adelaide - I'd go on record and say that Kurz has done the best job in the league considering the constraints (mostly financial) on his squad, and he's polished them into a well drilled unit with a few young Aussies shining throughout the season. I hope my pissant friends on this forum aren't too disheartened because I think there is a lot to look forward to next season.

A few things
- horrid crowd. Must be major concerns upstairs with that - first half was dire - Muscat was lucky. Made no changes until 88. - Valeri looked red on replay but there it was not clear as looking at other foul - the ref blew whistle every time someone fall over - Adelaide over celebrated that first goal and you could see them drop it after mv scored - Kenny did well in last few minutes - some great defending at points from Adelaide

I hope my pissant friends on this forum aren't too disheartened because I think there is a lot to look forward to next season. The positive thing about my club is we know how to scout the world properly for talent. We go after managers with good connections and back them to go after the players they want. That's why so many of our seasons are both unpredictable and exciting at the outset because one season's direction could be completely different to the next. We were the "spanish experiment" one year then suddenly we're German. We were the first deep scouting in latin America. We were the first to make a targeted play for an Asian talent (Shenqing Qu). Another positive is it makes the club feel truly multicultural. Club and fans alike embrace new thinking, new players and new culture. If you take a like for like club Perth Glory... NSL roots, broad based from the outset... we have consistently out performed them and our club culture is superior. They had a 5 year head start on us but we're more developed in being a true footy club. Also, we can't fucking beat Melbourne Victory because these fuckin cnts live in our fuckin heads.

I wouldn't feel too disheartened if I was a United fan. You are probably one or two players short off being a team challenging for the tile next year. Just need hold onto the core of the squad and pay for a marquee or two.

Mileusenic is a jet. Would have liked to see Adelaide get the ball to him quicker in one on one situations (there were opportunities) rather than have him use his pace in behind with long balls.

One thing that constantly bemuses me is that when we actually do get it to Mileusnic one on one, he virtually never attacks the defender. Way too quick to just turn back away from goal and dump the ball off.
