Ipswich's problems
  1. Stadium - the council promised a stadium if they get up. - more than most currently have been promised
  2. The rest of the Country is sending it's unwanted rubbish there - nonsense
  3. Having to live next to a Dump - every city has a dump
  4. The Mayor has been charged by the CCC - so what.
  5. Stupid name - no more stupid than some of the current HAL names?

And I thought this bid was supposed to have a point of difference to Roar - it has or are you blind?

SM President message to the members
http://www.smfc.com.au/south-melbourne-lodge-eoi-to-join-hyundai-a-league/

Leaning on History with their Bid

....................

However, this bid document is not about the past National Soccer League (NSL) glories or number of titles.

Outlined throughout the 100-page document is a 14-year case study of a committed football community building every element of a professional club to not only compete in the top flight, but contribute to the sustainability of Football for girls, boys, women, men and fans in Australia for generations to come.

We have you, the supporters, players and community to thank.

It’s no secret that 14 years ago SMFC was disappointed not to be a part of the inaugural A-League. The decisions relating to the formation of the A-League are well documented. Simply being a successful part of the old world (NSL) would no longer guarantee the club a seat at the table. It was watershed moment for the club.

Despite the disappointment, our response was to “get to work” on creating the “new” SMFC. Many people have provided support to keep the club moving forward.

We sincerely thank you for your support.

As your President, it is an absolute privilege to serve this club.

The next steps will be announced towards the end of June.

Yours sincerely,
Leo Athanasakis
SMFC President

There sure is alot of interest & alot of bids which is reasonably gratifying.

Out of all of them only South Melbourne is an actual club.

15 Bidders Confirmed

But before they disappear let's have one last look at the Freemantle Video

Fremantle are just testing the waters so local papers say.

There's no visible local interest although it is a great city and Fremantle Aussie Rules Club has the Italian flag colours as its emblem, so plenty of kulcha there to draw on.

Believe me it's not a serious bid.

Latest Mayor Action from the Team 11 Camp

Mornington Peninsula Shire mayor Cr Bryan Payne said that the aspiring club, vying for entry into both the A-League and the W-League for women’s players, would be beneficial to the peninsula.

“Mornington Peninsula Shire supports Team 11 and the movement to bring an A-League team to south-east Melbourne. This would bring significant social and economic benefits to not only the peninsula but all of south-east Melbourne,” Cr Payne said.

Frankston mayor Cr Colin Hampton said a successful bid would have a widespread positive effect in the region, highlighting the potential chances it could provide to local soccer players.

“Frankston City Council recognises the significant social and economic benefits that an A-League W-League and National Youth League team would bring to south-east Melbourne, and the opportunities for growth and development it would bring to clubs and participants in the region,” Cr Hampton said.

The Team 11 bid team is currently evaluating grounds across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula that would be suitable to host preseason and youth games featuring the expansion club.

Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Shire join the councils of Knox, Monash, Baw Baw Shire, Bass Coast Shire, South Gippsland Shire, Latrobe and Wellington Shire in contributing letters of support to the bid to partner a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Greater Dandenong Council, Casey Council and Cardinia Shire council.

Guess who Ange Supports ?

While harking back to the history of the three-time NSL premiers and 1999 Oceania Club of the Century, Postecoglou also believes they can also play a part in the game’s future.

“South Melbourne Football Club played a significant role in laying the foundations for where the sport is today,” said Postecoglou.

“It shaped me as a person and was instrumental in shaping my career as both a player and coach.
“I firmly believe there is a dormant support base that will return to the club if its ambitions to play at the highest levels succeed.

“It is one of the few clubs that can seamlessly compete at a higher level and I am of the belief it can be a competitive force from its initial introduction (into the A-League).

“The club is very close to my heart and I know if given the opportunity it can play a pivotal role in growing the game to even greater heights.”

South have been one of the most vocal of the A-League aspirants in championing their own cause, believing their existing fan base, stadium facilities, financial stability and successful youth systems are testament to their preparedness for A-League entry.

“Initially, it was a club that provided comfort and support to its (largely Greek) community but it was always underpinned by a desire for excellence on the sporting field,” added Postecoglou.

“Exciting football was at its core and it is why it was always strongly supported by its fan base.”

Scratchy back time

“I’ve known Ange for 30 years since we played together for the Monash University Football team,” added Papastergiadis.

“He was always modest and humble.  He was a man of few words.  Hence, his strong words of support for South’s admission to the A League are so important.

“We have almost 60 years of excellence and passion which cannot be replicated.  It’s a real club with real football output.  It’s a club that deserves to be in the A-League.”

Speaking of the Mornington Peninsular Council

One of the other bidders for the coveted new A-League team licence is a Belgravia Leisure bid led by company founder Geoff Lord, former chairman of Melbourne Victory.

Belgravia Leisure took over day-to-day management of five peninsula sports and leisure centres late last year from Mornington Peninsula Shire council, on a five-year deal with ratepayers set to pay the company more than $5.7 million in management fees.

Can we please count Geelong? I feel it is definitely a bid that escaped the Jungle.

Confirmed

The consortium has evolved out of former Socceroo Steve Horvat’s Geelong-based Victoria Patriots bid, which shifted its focus approximately a year ago after receiving feedback from consultants and winning in-principle council support in Wyndham,

West Melbournes Cagey Local Cash

Crucially, and in contrast to other A-League expansion bids, none of it is dependent on state or federal government funding, although details are sketchy as to how much the project will cost and who is paying for it.

Bid member Horvat refuses to divulge who the investors are, other than to say they are not from China as has been speculated.

“There’s no overseas money associated with this bid. It’s just local businesspeople that have invested,” Horvat said.

Only Football Federation Australia, Wyndham Council and those involved with Western Melbourne Group know the identity of the bid’s financial backers, Horvat said.

“The people that need to be aware of who they are, are aware,” he said.

Everyone can just rest assured that the funds have been guaranteed and that it’s not a smokescreen.”

Gloves are coming off in Woolongong v Southern

“Our support’s broader (than the Wolves),” Iemma said.

“The people in Sutherland wouldn’t have much reason to support the Wolves if they were selected.
Do they have the critical mass to maintain an A-League bid?”
.
.
.
Iemma rose eyebrows in May when he took on the Wolves directly, saying “the criteria and the actual numbers that are required would suggest (the Wolves are) possibly not the best way to achieve A-League status.”

In a blow to Southern, governing body Football South Coast (FSC) believe in Wollongong’s chances, emphatically backing the Wolves in March

Chairman Eddy de Garbiele telling
Game On, “We want the Wolves. 100 per cent, that is our position.”

That's pretty significant that they've told " Southern Expansion " that they don't really consider them to represent the region at all.

David Wilkie (MP) helping Tasmania by pushing the Gender Debate

Developing a W-League team is not a requirement in the A-League expansion process, but Tasmanian bid spokeswoman Victoria Morton said a women’s team would be on the agenda.

“That would be our next step — W-League, youth league, academy, everything that goes with having an A-League club,” Morton said. “We would be supporting all levels of football.”

Former Melbourne Victory board members Harry Stamoulis heads the consortium behind the state’s bid.

Independent Federal MP Andrew Wilkie said he has discussed the possibility of developing a Tasmanian W-League team with Stamoulis.

“[An] interesting dimension of my recent discussions with Mr Stamoulis was my suggestion that his A-League submission would be even stronger if it included a commitment to a W-League team,” Wilkie said. “This was as a direct result of community feedback to me.”

If Canberra United can have a women's team then I don't see why Tasmania can't.

Brisbane City Stadium timetable update

Ballymore's fate to be decided by end of year

Queensland sports minister Michael de Brenni has promised an answer on whether the ageing Ballymore Stadium will be granted a long-needed facelift by the end of the year.

The Queensland Rugby Union has submitted a proposal for a redevelopment of the precinct in inner-city Brisbane, which would see it become a national training centre for women's rugby and a secondary headquarters for the Wallabies and Olympic rugby sevens programs.

The QRU is seeking an investment of $15 million from the state government, which would be matched by the federal government.

Under the plans, the eastern stand at Ballymore would be retained, but the decaying McLean Stand replaced by a new wing which would also extend back to the adjacent training field and contain an elite training facility.
The new stand would enable the Queensland Reds to play at least some of their Super Rugby matches at Ballymore.

It could also play host to games as part of a women's World Cup in rugby (2021) or soccer (2023).

Suncorp Stadium is the only rectangular venue in Brisbane currently fit to host professional sport.

De Brenni said the proposal would be considered as part of a wide-ranging review of sporting infrastructure in Queensland, which is currently underway.
"We've got to look at not only how we deliver at your local football club but places like Ballymore and what we need to do at Suncorp to keep it being a world-class stadium," he told reporters.
"We're committed to doing that in 2018 so I expect government to consider the results of that community, sports fan and importantly athlete consultation by the end of this year."
However, an answer may be needed sooner for aspiring A-League club Brisbane City, who intend to play their home games at Ballymore.

A decision on which two new teams will join an expanded A-League is due to be made in October, with City's bid hinging on a renovation of the dilapidated venue.
The QRU's case for a funding injection will be much stronger if a renovated Ballymore could be used by multiple sports.

Team 11 making Crowd Promises now

Project Manager of Team 11 Matt Windley is very confident the local support is there in Melbourne’s South East......

......................Melbourne’s most recent A-League expansion team the Melbourne Heart, now Melbourne City has seen its member base stagnate at around 10,000.

Windley considers the South-East as a football ‘hotbed’ and can match City’s numbers in year one.

“The supporter base will be massive, I’m so, so confident of that.” Windley said, often visiting and discussing the proposal with local clubs, “I’m yet to have a negative conversation about this.”

One such supporter of the proposal, President of South Springvale Soccer Club, Omi Emmanoulidis has been on board since day one and shares Windley’s confidence.

“If an A-League team came in the South-East, the numbers would be greater than Melbourne Heart when they first came into the competition,” he said.
