+x+xThe reserves squad was named. And by simply taking those players out of the first grade squad. It looks like the most likely line up is 1.Corey Allan
2.Nick Meaney 3.Nick Cotric 4.Will Hopoate 5.Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 6.Brandon Wakeham 7.Kyle Flanagan 8.Jack Hetherington 9.Sione Katoa 10.Ofahiki Ogden 11.Adam Elliott 12.Corey Waddell 13.Josh Jackson
14.Renouf Atoni 15.Chris Smith 16.Jackson Topine 17.Bailey Biondi-Odo Reserve grade I can’t paste the reserve grade side for some reason

+x+xTrial Squad Corey Allan Renouf Atoni Bailey Biondi-Odo Dean Britt Declan Casey Nick Cotric Brad Deitz Matt Doorey Adam Elliott Kyle Flanagan Jack Hetherington Will Hopoate Josh Jackson Sione Katoa Tui Katoa Lachlan Lewis Falakiko Manu Nick Meaney Ofahiki Ogden Aaron Schoupp Ava Seumanufagai Chris Smith Joe Stimson Jackson Topine Corey Waddell Brandon Wakeham Dallin Watene-Zelezniak Foundations of a pretty good squad... With Burton and JAC next year Baz has plenty to work with... Agreed. Just need a hooker and another prop. And then if the team plays to their potential they are a chance at a premiership

The best news I’m hearing is from the sg ball side. Looks likely we have a hooker, props, a few good halves and of course Paul Alomoti

It will be interesting to see how we go this year, I am expecting improvement, but not a miracle. Probably 7th-12th is a pass mark. But 12th would be slightly disappointing.

The reggies are more interesting for me this year because there were the usual players leaving & joining prior to the cancelled covid season last year & again a 2nd pre-season of more players leaving & joining before this season ahead. Plenty of new faces ready to go. There's even a few names in the NRL trial squad today I'm not familiar with. I know not everyone shows interest in reggies, but I like it & with the club working on building more depth & quality throughout the grades in recent times (sure beats neglect) I hope more matches get some tv coverage this season.

Stimson, Roumanis, Britt, Lewis, Doorey all named for mounties

Flanagan not doing well with the kicking game.
So far not much improvement on last year, Cotric and Hetherington good, also Odgen, Elliott, and Atoni.
We may have a bit more to offer in the 2nd half,
Hooker and half still look like problem positions.

Still early in the season, but Baz will earn his wage.

I know it's only a trial, and there are a few new players trying to blend in but our attack seems very pedestrian indeed. It's like they are just trying to get match fitness and trying not to get injured. I really would like to get a glimpse of any attacking prowess that we possess. Trial or no trial I'd like to see what we've got.

Good turn around in the 2nd half a few fringe players impressed.
We certainly needed the run, plenty to work on, but effort and energy good.

He better be in the 17 come round 1 Dietz I watched his hilights reel, and I remember him from lower grades elsewhere. Impressive in this trial worthy of a contract. Renouf Atoni also had a good game.

Flanagan's kicks were a bit lame, but he was getting plenty of kick pressure, we need to mix the kickers up a bit more.

This Deitz player.... he did what a 9 should be doing! Great passing from dummy half & scooting for runs when opportunities present themselves! He had an excellent 20mins on the field.

I am struggling to believe anyone here watched the game considering the distinct lack of ‘sack someone’ posts...

Allen and Cotric showed great energy and Meaney too. Hetherington a machine. Elliot and Jacko looked faster and fitter. Wardell looked ok too and with RFM back our edge looks good. Flannagan ok without being superb. Good to see him getting the ball when he wanted, running the line and taking the line on when he desires Dietz .....Hard to not be impressed? Who does he remind me of- Cook, Nikarima, Iven henjak...help me please?
10 forwards required - 6 start 4 bench HOOKER +3 starting middle forwards + 2 edge / bench of 3 middles + 1 edge
so Hooker +6 middles+3 edge
middles/props.. 1 Hetherington 2 Jacko 3 Renouf 4 Thomson 5 Napa 6 Ogden
edges.. 1 RFM 2 Elliot 3 Wardell
4 Smith 5 Doorey
Hooker 9 ...Dietz.

Dietz also reminds me of someone, it is decades since we have had a hooker who is a threat running the ball. That locks defenders into the ruck and gives the attack more time or more numbers. If the hooker simply passes to the half every play, no defenders are comitted, and they know where the ball is going. We need a hooker who is smart enough to run when the opportunity is there. Wardell lost the ball a few times when we were on the attack.

The team looked good in the second half but both sides were playing reserves. Dietz looked good but I would like to see more before getting excited.
Cotric and Allen are so much better than our other outside backs it’s ridiculous. We need the Fox ASAP.
Flange looked good. He was terrorised all game but just kept running the show well. But he desperately needs Burton alongside him.
Ogden and Atoni were impressive. Finally looking agile. Hethrington put in some major work and was close to our best. Elliot strong and suited to an edge as much as Jacko was suited to the middle.
We still need middles and a hooker. But with Burto and Fox next year we should be much better.

Wardell lost the ball a few times when we were on the attack. Hallelujah. I've been sounding like a broken record on this hooker position. I was mocked when I declared D Cook the biggest loss the club had since Thurston. He has shat on us ever since. I saw more in Dietz in 20mins of footy than I have seen in any other hooker we have played since. He is a must for this team. Even if he has errors in him, he can work on reducing them. But the way he jinked one way and passed the other as well as constantly looked at the markers and defence line and took his running chances, I am more than happy to declare him as our hooker solution.

Allan was most impressive and I wasn’t surprised. I think a lot is gonna start from him this year.
Dietz isn’t in the 30 and we got one spot left that everyone hopes is for Burton at some stage. And though yes he was impressive it was Reggies v Reggies at that stage so let’s not close our one and only option based on 20 mins of reserve grade football.
Do it again, and again, and again and we’ll see around April maybe.
