Well, at least this article provides a fair bit of clarity. It looks like the so-called normalisation route was a road to nowhere anyway.

@ bettega
It is a well-written piece.
Sadly there hasn’t been enough of it during this debate.
All the major protagonists seem to believe their own propaganda and have an agenda that’s about stopping others rather than advancing the sport.
The clarity that we are”being normalised” now, or at least in the early stages of it, is actually quite sobering. One way or another, we are at least nearing the end of this fiasco.
If this little charade were a 747 aeroplane then the ten “man” congress, the FFA Board and in particular Steven and Frank Lowy behind him would be hearing the warning “pull up! .... pull up! ..... pull up!” about now.

+xYou're fucking insane if you think that a suspension from FIFA is what Australian football needs right now. Utterly fucking insane and an enemy of the game - more cancerous than any AFL shill could ever be. +1 million Whatever FIFA do I hope it improves football in Australia but people cheering on a suspension shows how toxic some parts of football fan culture is

Agree suspension would be the absolute worst outcome for the game. Can’t believe people are cheering for this. Shows how toxic the ffa have become in the football community. Lowy needs to stand down. I can’t believe he hasn’t done this already there must be more to it. Why haven’t we heard from griffin?

This, there is no way Lowy and Co are going to leave quietly, sadly this is probably the only way.

What hotrod said. We have option a: a fairly reasonable path for expanded governance vs option b: suspension.
The incumbents don’t want option a and the only way for them to accept it is with a gun to our head... unfortunately that seems like the only way.

Whether its the threat of Suspension or actual Suspension that makes P&R happen, who cares?

Hopefully if there is a suspension at least their is a provision for a quick end to the suspension if the board is replaced
A suspension could lead to another missing generation

Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to start making progress, it is obviously the last resort for the need of a suspension but it is starting to look like the only way forward.

Here is something interesting from FFA statutes. If FFA dont approve the changes proposed by FIFA,they will be in breach of their own objectives.

That’s correct. And that exposes them to legal action from their stakeholders - especially the A League clubs.
The prospect of CFG, Ledman and even the Bakries (who seem to think going to court regularly is part of the game anyway) taking action would be very real.
FIFA though must hold their nerve, I don’t want Australia to be suspended but I do want these fuckwits to hold their vote knowing they’re voting for either change or suspension.

+xHere is something interesting from FFA statutes. If FFA dont approve the changes proposed by FIFA,they will be in breach of their own objectives. Good pick up - but someone would have to take legal action against the FFA to bring effect to that. Even then, that doesn't address the central point that the constitution can only be changed by 75% of the vote of the existing congress members, i.e.8 of 10. Absolutely nothing can change that. And if reports are correct that the four smallest federations are opposed (the four who weren't part of the working group), then there's still some way to go, although only two of the four would need to be convinced to get behind everyone else (assuming everyone else on the same page, I doubt any of us know that for sure).,

As other's have mentioned, absolutely nobody wishes for us to be suspended from FIFA and have everything go to shit. However, it's quite clear that it's the FFA making this decision, not us - they have the option to implement genuine reform along FIFA guidelines and they have fought it at every opportunity. Thus, the FFA have brought the 'nuclear option' upon us, not the footballing public.

The dissolution of the NSL lead to our national team's golden generation remember.

+xAs other's have mentioned, absolutely nobody wishes for us to be suspended from FIFA It is apparent that most people here do want us to be suspended just so they can gloat over Lowy's corpse. Never mind the league, never mind the socceroos. I think that is a disgraceful, despicable attitude. You people shouldn't even call yourselves football fans.

+xUnless it was a suspension of a only few weeks pending a new ruling body being formed, a long suspension would mean nearly every single overseas player would leave immediately. Most would not stay and risk their international standing by playing in a non FIFA sanctioned league. Most good Australian players would try and head overseas to play in "real" leagues . Your local A-League owners would have to decide whether they cut and run or stay and wait out the suspension . Fox would officially owe no more money to the FFA so that money would cease immediately. ...and unlike the old NSL days there are few ethnics with lots of money willing to to throw it at clubs for little return. There would be no money in the game. Junior academies like the excellent free Roar one would cease to exist overnight . We would... at best....have an all Aussie part time league basically ....NPL players ...and no.... that would not be good . It would be a worse standard than the NSL was. I see no upside to a suspension ...it would put us back 30 years . Footballs apocalypse ! As far as I know Suspension would only effect Australian National teams. Not sure where you get the rest of it from. Or your having a wind-up

FMD what an absolute dogs vomit has the great messiah Lowy made of the game. Situation is far far worse than it ever was under the effniks lol. Coping a suspension from FIFA is normally reserved for the likes of 3rd world corrupt states like Liberia, Zimbabwe, North Korea etc etc. What an utter utter embarrassment. Lowy the egomaniac will never give in, that'll mean he would concede 'defeat'. He'd rather take everything down with him and destroy the game again than do the right thing. Shame upon shame.

Suspension means the current players good enough to play overseas will help the NT tread water for a bit but we probably spend 15 years in the wilderness. Those saying "It will be good in the long run" better be ok with waiting 20 years

I don't think anyone wants suspension even those hinting it may be good, if it gets us rid of Steven Lowy.
Its actually out of our hands and in Steven Lowys hands, he can lead the conversation and promote the change or he can create a fuss and run the risk of suspension and all that would bring.
The reports gone to FIFA and if FIFA approve they will forward it to FFA for the vote. Steven Lowy will play the pivotal role ..... however unjust and unfair, and unreasonable, Australia's fate rest with Steven Lowy, and Steven alone.
Lets hope over the next four weeks either the smaller state feds grow some balls or Steven Lowy comes to his senses.
