+x+x+xHonestly don't see what's so wrong, they're trialling a budding professional with an accomplished athletic history. If you don't have adequate technique by the time you are 12, you aren't making it. Athletic ability doesn't mean shit, it's why you don't see code hoppers come to Football. I'm sure there have been exceptions to the rule. And its the A-League, not the epl. He doesn't have to be all THAT good. Slap in the face to all the juniors coming through.

Bolt wouldnt even be up to npl standard..he wouldnt replace a single player in bentleighs starting 11 tonight.

He's only training with them, it's not like he's kicking out a young player off the squad. Wait till that happens before we all shit our pants over this

We signed two talented NPL attackers in Josh Mcdonald and Jordan Murray literally last week. Australia's 4 best players aside from Mooy were give their first professional contract by us. If any team in the world deserves a chance to try a bit of unconventional marketing, its us. If he signs a contract with us, we can have a discussion about whether he's taking a young Australian players potential place in the team. Until then it's just a bit of clever PR by the best youth development club in the country. Our league is of a consistently high quality, creating great players for our national teams and providing entertaining football week-in week-out. If anyone seriously thinks that taking a famous runner on trial somehow entirely delegitimises the A-League, you've got rocks for brains.

I would love to pose the question to CCM if they have paid any money to Usain Bolt to come for a trial. It wouldn't surprise me if they did which would be ridiculous.

He could be given a few months to trial and if he is a flop, he will leave... Foxsports says six months or more. "USAIN Bolt could be given six months or more to prove himself and win an A-League contract but the Central Coast Mariners insist his ‘indefinite’ trial stint is no gimmick. The eight-time Olympic gold medallist is set to arrive in Australia on August 18 after sealing a deal to train with the Gosford club and prove himself worthy of being signed." Interestingly: ''We've been inundated with sponsorship calls this morning. This is about growth for the club in the long term.'' Mariners thinking about the long term effects of Bolt move.

If this is the way they want to go, once P&R comes in, they'll be relegated to obscurity and it will end up being one of those interesting pub trivia questions: "Which former A-League team did champion sprinter Usain Bolt once play for?"

Aug 18 + 6 months = Feb 18 CCM well out of the chase for 6th spot by then, and no relegation He can play as much as he likes

So, - CCM can't contract him unless FFA chip in and
- Bolt won't come if there's no chance of a contract so
- FFA must've come to the Party already, however
- By the time he earns a contract there will likely be a new FFA board but
- Bolt won't risk the new Board changing their mind therefore
- FFA have already signed a binding agreement with Bolt should he get a Contract
- CCM would know this and will be keen to make sure he gets offered the contract
No pressure Magic Mike

Ha good on em, one of the biggest names ever in world sport will potentially be playing in the A-League. Hopefully he gets a contract and ends up scoring the winner against SFC to get CCM into the finals just to piss the haters off even more.

Two hopes here. 1) CCM pick up some decent sponsor dollars and we can upgrade the squad a bit 2) If he plays and is actually okay, CCM pick up a tidy celebrity transfer deal when he goes to the MLS.
Worst case? Hype dies off and he doesn't sign.
Trying to find the downside to this.
