Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of Australian winger, Ben Halloran, on a two-year contract.

Capped six times by the Socceroos, Halloran joins the Reds after spending the last five years of his career abroad.

The 26-year-old moved to 2. Bundesliga outfit Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2013 after plying his trade with Gold Coast United and then Brisbane Roar.

He scored eight goals and managed five assists in 37 matches in two seasons with the German club.

In 2015, Halloran transferred to fellow German second division side 1. FC Heidenheim where he would go on to accumulate 56 games and net six goals, before a stint with J1 League team V-Varen Nagasaki.

Halloran, who made three substitute appearances for the Socceroos at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, can operate as a forward, as an attacking midfielder, or as a winger.

Halloran said he was thrilled to reach an agreement with Adelaide and was looking forward to a successful time with the Club.

“It feels great to be joining Adelaide United,” Halloran said. “I’m keen to be back in the A-League and the Aussie camaraderie and mateship that’s within an Aussie team is very unique.

“I’m looking forward to being part of that again.

“Coming back to Australia I’d have to say I’m a more well-rounded footballer and playing in Germany and playing in Japan they’re both quite high levels, which helps a lot.

“To date, I’m yet to win any silverware so I definitely have ambitions of coming to Adelaide to win something and to win the FFA Cup would be a great start.

“I obviously want to be as successful as I can in the A-League as well and that would mean winning the Championship.”

Reds Head Coach, Marco Kurz, lauded the capture of Halloran, highlighting his quality, and stated he will be a substantial addition to the squad.

“I am very happy that we have been able to sign Ben for the next two seasons,” Kurz said. “He is a very versatile attacking player that will be important for us in the new season.

“He knows the A-League from playing here for a few seasons when he was younger, and was then able to head overseas and play football in Germany and also Japan.

“Ben was also part of the Socceroos team in the 2014 World Cup and these experiences have definitely helped him develop into a quality footballer.

“We’re excited to see what Ben will bring to our team and I’m confident he will be another good fit.”

Halloran will take the number 26 shirt for the Club and brings Marco Kurz’s squad to 25 contracted players for the 2018/19 season.

Hyundai A-League squad:
1.Daniel MARGUSH, 2.Michael MARRONE, 3.Scott GALLOWAY, 4.Ryan STRAIN, 5.Taylor REGAN, 6.Vince LIA, 7.Ryan KITTO, 8.ISAÍAS, 9.Baba DIAWARA, 10.Ken ILSØ, 11.Craig GOODWIN, 14.George BLACKWOOD, 16.Nathan KONSTANDOPOULOS, 17.Nikola MILEUSNIC, 18.Lachlan BROOK, 20.Paul IZZO, 22.Michael JAKOBSEN, 23.Jordan ELSEY, 24.Pacifique NIYONGABIRE, 26.Ben HALLORAN 27.Louis D’ARRIGO, 28.Kristin KONSTANDOPOULOS, 30.Isaac RICHARDS, 31.Mirko BOLAND, 33.Apostolos STAMATELOPOULOS

Havnt kept track of him in recent years.

My image of him is still a kick and chase player, mostly all speed. Am I wrong?

Any idea who's paying the Adelaide players this year yet ?

Closed HAL is failing with 10 teams
Closed HAL failed with 11
FFA forced to try a 12 team Closed HAL thatll just create 2 more mid table also-rans
and still this weird 16-team panacea gets trotted out.
Theres a sticky for this nonsense

So......?

......................................Izzo
Marrone/Strain........Elsey....Jakobsen/Regan........Strain/Galloway
.....................................Isaias
.............................................Boland/Lia
.......................................Ilso/Konstandopolous
Halloran/Mileusnic.......................................Goodwin/Kitto
.....................(?)Baba/Blackwood/Ilso/Stamatelopoulos(?)

We have a fair few promising youngsters too.

Feel like our season will rest a fair bit on who will (if) settle into the striker position

We have a lot of versatile players that can play in multiple positions which is important but I would feel a lot better with a striker of known quality. Ilso might be decent but looks more like a second striker/AM than an out and out striker.

Guess we will know more by our next FFA cup game since the new guys will have had longer with the team. Can't see us not playing our best team just coz it's an NPL side with Kurtz. We have bad memories of Qld in the cup.

Adelaide's whole season depends on Baba and Blackwood. If they step up, they're a title contender

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Very happy with this. Adds cover and depth in the areas we need it and I'm very happy with how the squad is looking now. Please can the season just start sooner..

Squads looking the best I’ve seen on paper for some time. Finally some depth, something sorely lacking for as long as I can remember.

Sad really, Blackwood has shown he's a good central man to aim for but he's way too hot and cold for mine. Diawara gets injured way too frequently, I think he looks lazy and I get the feeling he just believes he's too good for this league. If he gets all this negativity out of his system I reckon he'd do a Bobo.
