+x+x+x+x+xI have been suspicious for a very long time that the HAL inflate the figures. What they can’t hide is the massive drop in interest over the last 4 years. TV ratings down and crowds down. It’s good... I got one have zero sympathy, because the FFA regime has destroyed the sport and divided the community. Crowds and membership are up. 5k seems about right for City on a Tuesday night , on the same night only 10k turned up to the BBL match between a Sydney team and a Melbourne team in Sydney. So the bbl had double the attendance and probably a million tv viewers and you just shrug this off? Lol. Attendances are on track to dip below last season..ffa went all out with the early derbies this yr. If you consider the size of the audiences the a-league attendance is very respectable and it was a very entertaining contest at that. I am just providing an alternative to the doom and gloom on here, South Melbourne would have been stoked with 5k at any time in their history. If you guys don't want to watch the a-league then fucking don't. Its not up to me to be watching the A league. My season starts in a few weeks. Though i watch a few games on tv. As for clearing 5k. We consistently did that well before Melbourne became a mega city of almost 5 million. Well, be sure to announce the VNPL crowd figures and TV ratings so I can prophesise its impending doom.

All these games during weekdays would definitely send averages down which is normal. Figures quoted above posts look pretty satisfactory given the public's dislike for mid week games. When this vocation period is over a jump in figures is imminent.

From the author of South of the Border - a Hellas Blog........Dec 2018 This came about because of the SMFC exaggerations in their bid for the A-League license. The broader point is that if we actually had the support we claimed to have - or that we used to have - we probably wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. If we had 2,000 people turning up to games instead of 200, the quality and vitality of our optics and our metrics would all be harder to ignore, or to treat as a fabrication.
Seems consistent with what we hear from the usual SM Hellas gang on this forum lol.

The NSL was forced to run off the smell of an oily rag and it had more teams and a system of developing better players $50m a year buys a pathway to a struggling Socceroos. $4m to help fund a team that has actually finished a season with less points than the worst NSL team in the final season Foxsports have stated that when the A League gets to 12 teams they want to see a 22 week season. In other words "You can keep the money, but we want to show 5 less weeks and 3 less games!"

Sub 10k would be our worst for 8 years. If the average dropped over the last 12 rounds the same it did last season then it would be around 10.15k. The fact that the 6 is already decided means that 10.15k is optimistic.

We will see where this all leads but I suspect that TV ratings aren't telling the full picture. I notice as well today that the league set a new membership record and my club, Sydney is nudging 15 000, so this perpetual doom that you guys pedal and the rose coloured glasses you look at the past with are a very boring. If you want to be part of the game, if you want to see change then constant negativity is helping.

The FFA have done little more than roll out the soccer version of the AFL / NRL / BBL. 15 clubs made a serious bid to be part of the league and they turned away 13 of them. One last cash grab before they have to hand the league to an independent body Members might be standing by it but few else are. And the patience of the loyal are wearing thin too

In 1998, SA sold the television rights for the NSL and Socceroos matches to the CH7 (C7 Sports channel) in a 10-year contract that was worth $2.5 million a year. For comparison, CH7 was paying $40M per year for the AFL.

No, it isn't, it is a necessary first step. Expansion,a second division, pro/rel, removal of the cap, is what most people want but few are stupid enough to think that hoping for the failure of what we have now is somehow the best way to achieve those goals. The best thing for South Melbourne is a strong a-league that they can eventually become a part of.

A point I saw that I might just add:
Only twice in the A-League has a team finished with less points than the team in last from the 2003/04 NSL (Auckland Kingz)
NZ Knights in the 05/06 Mariners in 15/16 This year might see an addition to that
But to use that as a point is useless. Was the 2007 season of the EPL horrible because Derby County were so bad?

After 3 rounds it was down 31k so the attendance over the last 12 rounds including the midweek rounds has stood up quite well against last season. The question to be answered over the next 12 rounds is how it will stand up with the 6 virtually decided already.

If we go to 22 rounds we really do have to find more games for these players. Can we extend the FIFA cup by putting in a group stage?
Perth glory + 3WA teams in a group round Robbin = 6 games before knockout 3 go through Adelaide United + 3SA teams same thing 2 go through And so on until you get 32 teams in the FFA cup and knockout from there Victoria 6 ACT 2 Sydney 6 NNSW 3 Tasmania 1 NT 1 SEQ 4 North Queensland 2 New Zealand 2 For example
Could also add New Zealand teams to this tournament. I think it would be good for Auckland and Christchurch got around a team if an A-League club come to town. Could also invite the Solomon Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia
Not ideal but make the best of a bad situation?

Apparently the most likely outcome next season is a 26 Round season. Everyone plays each other home/away then plays 6 more games against some opponents.
That’s about as ugly as you can get but 26+1 FFA Cup match meets the AFCs minimum requirements and saves Fox 5x $80k productions costs.
Everyone will be happy ..... bar the clubs and fans.
God knows what they’ll do when it expands again the following year.

Are you kidding me? First step? The league is 14 years old. Look at what the J league, K League and even BBL have achieved in 14 years We had the opportunity to have the biggest clubs in this country and we turned it down. We had the opportunity to work 15 teams into expansion and we turned it down We have taken the AFL / NRL road map which is to start small for 100 years with the same clubs and then we'll be worth billions of dollars one day. The professional environment and amateur environment are very different things. If the AFL started today it would have failed (as we saw with the AFLX) There is no plan to implement any of the things you mentioned, and no understanding of how to get there Thats fine. We're only 14 years old. These things take time. Most people dont even know Australia has a national league so we just have to wait until they work it out Failure gives us a chance to do things over. Ignorance and denial get us there slower, and maybe too late

i'm gonna go against the grain by saying i reckon crowds will hold firm and will not fall as much as last year in the second half of the season... and we will finish not too far off last years average. the top 6 may be decided, but the premiers plate is far from decided. its gonna be a tight race to the finish, unlike the last 2 years when sydney ran away with it.
